Painting the milky way galaxy has been an art form I've been studying since 2014. It has been a long process learning how to paint the night sky and I am still learning! It's been a while since I last made a KZbin video. Thanks to some kind people on Instagram I became inspired to get back into filming. This video is quite a bit longer than my other ones in an effort to slow the footage down and give a better view of what I'm doing.

Not all mops shed. Actually most don't. It's the type she was using. The reason why the gold brush was losing so many bristles is because (and i'm fairly certain) that is Camel hair. Camel mops are some of the softest brushes you can get and they are notorious for losing hairs. If anyone is insistent on using Camel then I suggest washing it several, several times and working it with your hands a bit to at least lessen the loss amount.

Wow, this was SUPER helpful! I started a new painting today, and I got stuck in the middle. I was like, I don't know how to do this, I need to consult an expert! So here I am! :)

Awsome!! I enjoy the space fantasy in my paintings.. your stars look great. I definatley got some great tips from this.. this painting would aslo go great with a boat over the ocean.. with some reflections of your milky way in the water 😊

I have only learned to paint through practice - 4-5 days every week for years....and I know how frustrating it can be. I would recommend getting some scrap paper and trying different splattering motions until you find one that works for you. Try different brushes, try thicker paint, try thinner paint. Eventually you will find what works through trial/ error and practice.

use thinner, wet paint but not too wet. if you’re using oils use a paint thinner and if you’re using acrylic just water it down. i take my finger and drag it along the brush to fling the paint. if you do get globs you should be able to wipe it off quickly

Good project for learning how to blend oils. One question - do I want to put as little paint as possible or are thicker layers are ok?

I don't get it do you paint the canvas black and let it dry first or do you paint it black and then paint on that wet black paint
@kariweatherbee2598
@kariweatherbee2598 5 жыл бұрын
Yes paint the canvas black first with acrylics and let it dry. Then you can proceed to painting with oil paints.

can someone tell me if it is better to 1) just put black oil all over canvas, wait until it dries 2) after that use neo megilp to blend various colors to it so that transparency of space dust clouds added?

can you tell us the colours you used? Because you said you used persian blue but I see all kind of different shades of blue in the painting
@kariweatherbee2598
@kariweatherbee2598 Жыл бұрын
My best memory is that yes, it was prussian blue. Different shades of blue would have appeared through the mixing of the prussian blue with other colors on the pallet and canvas. If you can spend some time and study pictures of space and the milky way. Notice how you gaze through the depths of the sky out into the universe and acknowledge all of the layers of light/dust/gas you are looking through. Look at the colors and how they mingle. Some are lighter, some darker. I found doing this helped my paintings and helped me to create a sense of depth. I'm guessing I would have used prussian blue, sap green, cadmium yellow, magenta and titanium white. There may have been some yellow ochre there too, not sure. Hope that helps.

Both mop brushes and watercolor brushes can work well when blending oil paints. They are soft and don't tend to lift too much paint off of the canvas. I've also heard that makeup brushes used for blush work well too as they don't shed as much as the mop brushes. I hope that helps.

Hi there. This isn't exactly a Bob Ross style. He was much better at layering wet paint on top of wet paint than I ever have been. I usually let my oil paintings dry between layers.
