Seriously, thanks, Sean! We are the lucky ones when we get people who find us who actually post questions and comment and really show us they like the content. Makes it worth all the work! :D Hope you keep enjoying the channel! Oh by the way, I am always curious how people find us. Trying to grow and need to know what is working. How did you discover our channel in the first place? :D -Aaron

You bet, Rusty! Which spot exactly? Both Goosenecks State Park AND Goblin Valley State Park? -Aaron
@rustyshinault49987 жыл бұрын
I think I’d like Goblin Valley the best. The amazing rock formations add more interest to me.
@PhotogAdventures7 жыл бұрын
Oh right on! Yeah Goblin Valley is not only an interesting foreground to make your Astro shot look like something from an Exoplanet, but it is a really dark sky for being so easily driven up to. Definitely add it to your list and hope you can get out to it this year! :D That is if you are in Utah already or make it to Utah this year. Thanks for watching and hope you keep coming back each week! :D -Aaron

I live in Florida. No interesting rock formations like that here, and a LOT of light pollution here for sure. :-(

That's one heck of a ride up those cliffs, in Norway we have allot of such roads, i remember driving on a similar kind of road, i sat in the car all tense, jesus the road was so narrow, i couldn't even breath, sometimes it just feels like you're about to roll over the edge.

HI - thanks a-lot for the great information you are sharing in these videos. i wanted to check on the other application which you used to check the milky way visually
@PhotogAdventures6 жыл бұрын
Hey Grafix Ali! We love to use Photopills. It is an awesome App to see where the Milky Way Core will be in relation to a pin that marks where you are standing. I explain my love of photopills in one of my Live Webinars I have put on. Check it out here if you are curious! :D kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4OzdoCwZ8x1ZtU Thanks for watching, Grafix Ali! -Aaron

There are apps so you can record your tracks so you can mirror your path back. Thanks for sharing!
@PhotogAdventures7 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, you are completely right, James! :D We only know of one, which apps do you prefer? After our situation here, we looked into an app that would do that and we only ever found one and we were amazed we even found this one: myTracks here is the iOS link: goo.gl/ZaUXOv We got soooo lost that day at Goblin Valley we realized that just getting one of these would have saved us. Which do you use? :D -Aaron

I am an Android user and have Google my maps, Strava, Map My Hike as well as Strava which is known for biking, buts records tracks. I bought Backcountry Navigator and regularly use that to preplan and track as I go. Best of luck and thanks for the podcast and videos!
@PhotogAdventures7 жыл бұрын
You bet James! Thanks for watching and big thank you for listening too! I am going to try out Strava and Backcountry Navigator. I already have MapMyHike but if I don't start it during cell signal it never just gets to the hilke because it always wants me to be logged in. I bet there is a way to use its GPS only features without having to log in all the time, but each time I think to use it I load the app and it wants me to log in and I am already way beyond signal range....so that app has been a bust for me. -Aaron

How clear is the Milky Way to the naked on in an area as dark as this? Love your videos!
@PhotogAdventures7 жыл бұрын
Very! Now, you need to let your eyes FULLY adjust to take it all in, but even without adjusting and just letting your eyes have 30 seconds in the dark you will see the Milky Way clearly. See that it is there. See that it is different than the stars around it and then at the core it is VERY obvious. Honestly, it is an experience I wish everyone would get a chance to experience. It is sad there is so much misuse of lights where some people grow to adulthood without seeing it for themselves. Getting to an area like Utah is something you gotta do someday. If you ever are in this area let us know, we will help you get to a really really dark area and prepare to be astonished! :D Thanks for watching, David! -Aaron

Thanks for your reply Aaron! Heading on holidays to Greece soon and really hoping I can get a clear shot of the Milky Way. Gonna have to rewatch your videos so that I can make the most of it!
@PhotogAdventures7 жыл бұрын
Haha that is awesome, I am very jealous of ya! Looking at DarkSiteFinder.com there are a lot of dark areas to see the Milky Way on the coastlines and all over several of the islands. Hope you get a chance to take a boat ride or ferry at night where you will be in REALLY dark skies as long as the boat doesn't light up too much. Let us know if you end up seeing it with your naked eye! 😃 -Aaron

This is one of my favorite videos both because of the location and because of "We did NOT just walk in a circle. Did we walk in a circle? We just walked in a circle!" LOL LOL LOL I'm going to repeat and elaborate on what James suggested. Don't just drop a pin; record a track. I would go even further. Whenever I'm on a photog adventure I have a track running from the time I get up to the time I go to bed. It's primarily for geotagging images (I export the tracks to my computer when I get home and then use LR to geotag my files) but a track can definitely save you in this type of situation. In fact, it saved me twice last month on Cedar Mesa at Fallen Roof Ruin and Tower Ruin when I would have otherwise gotten myself lost twice. I suggest a specific app: GAIA GPS. It's expensive. Brendan isn't going to like that. But it is AWESOME. The main thing that I like is that GAIA gives you a free web account. You can do all your planning at your home PC. You can add waypoints, you can pre-plan routes, you can create map sets using different maps (topo maps, NPS maps, USFS maps, etc.) and layers (topo shading, hiking trails, etc.) You then save these maps in your online library and download them to your smartphone when you need them. They are offline maps so you use no data and never require a cell signal. When you're in the field it is effortless to switch between maps, map types, and layers. You can control the opacity to suit your particular needs at the moment. I consider it the ultimate navigation tool for outdoor photography. I can't say enough good things about it. And even when you're done with your adventure and need to delete your maps to free up space on your phone, your maps with all customizations are retained in your online account for when you need them again. A couple notes about the locations. The long series of gravel switchbacks that climb up and down off Cedar Mesa is called the Moki Dugway. It was originally built for the benefit of a uranium mining operation if memory serves. At the very top, west side of the highway, there is an unpaved road out to Muley Point. It is only signed from one direction. If the road isn't wet (you don't want to be on these clay roads if they are saturated with water) you can drive five miles to a series of spectacular viewpoints. You not only look down on the goosenecks (can't see the river) but out toward Monument Valley and toward Mexican Hat. There are campsites there too. I've been meaning to join your Facebook group. When I do I'll post some images. Finally, if you're in Goblin Valley you are a very short distance from two great slot canyons. Little Wild Horse Canyon is just minutes away and is a nice accessible and photogenic slot canyon. (It's also just about as busy as a trail in Yosemite during the summer-at least on the weekend we were there.) Nearby Crack Canyon is also quite photogenic. It requires more effort to reach so it was largely empty when we hiked through. If you are at Goblin Valley and have the time, these are two "can't miss" stops.

So much great stuff in your message that I will have to come back to later tonight, but yeah I just learned it was Moki Dugway but had no idea about the Uranium mining! And haha it is funny you caught on to Brendon's thriftyness or at least his love of getting a great deal. XD I was soooooo tired that morning and scared out of my mind with Brendon putting my window OVER the ledge. IT was only near it but when you look out the window and look pretty straight down, it scares you. Especially when you have only had 3 hours of sleep the night before. :D This weekend we are going to be driving down it again and look forward to it! The video we are recording is short but with MANY locations, going to be a lot of fun but very very and really TOO short of a trip. We will see all of it again though. That video will be out as an extra video next week because it has a heavy ulterior motive. :D Talk later, Tim! -Aaron

Cool videos guys :) I recommend You introduce some stacking into your astro photos
@PhotogAdventures8 жыл бұрын
You are right, Kuba! We have been thinking about that a lot and hadn't really tried it in 2016. So this year we are going to do that more. We have seen others who have done it and we like the look. The Milky Way core returns to our skies before dawn here in a week and I look forward to trying the technique. Thanks for watching and the encouragement to try another technique. I really think the stacking will help get even more clarity in our images, I am excited about that! -Aaron
@KubaJurkowski8 жыл бұрын
Yea stacking really reduces the noise and brings out the detials, You cam reduce the expo time to reduce trailing and recover way more from the shadows after stacking. Also some tracking mount is nice:)
@KubaJurkowski8 жыл бұрын
Also You can try it on the timelapse frames you got:)
@PhotogAdventures8 жыл бұрын
Brendon actually found a tracking mount last year that we almost started using. Actually, on this adventure out to Goosenecks he tried it for the first time and it worked pretty well. We will have to pull it out again and let you know how it goes! -Aaron
@KubaJurkowski8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, especially for the wide angle any kind of tracking will do, with 16mm you can easily go to 200-300 s just eyeballing the polar alignment:)
@willnotbetracked82228 жыл бұрын
Just wondering if there was any reason why you parked so far from where you were shooting?
@PhotogAdventures8 жыл бұрын
Willnot Betracked At Goosenecks we had to park at a campsite and all the rim campsites were taken. We were able to find a place on the rim where we could setup our cameras but we couldn't park on the rim. Then at Goblin Valley we actually parked right at the front of the parking there, it just took us 30 mins to get to our tripods in the dark because we kept getting disoriented and going the wrong way! 😄 Thanks for watching our video! Hope you keep coming back! -Aaron

Thanks, Willnot Betracked! Stoked to have you around and hope we can keep delivering fun content! Been out to a water fall that goes into a small cave that is called Donut Falls and with the ice that was still there yesterday was pretty awesome. Not as much ice as I hoped that morning but it was still really cool looking. We will share that here in the next few weeks after the Train Trestle and Zion video coming up. Thanks again for watching, Willnot! -Aaron
