Frank Quitely is one of the world's most famous comic-book artists right now. His work includes The Authority, All Star Superman, Batman and Robin, Jupiter's Legacy and now this week's The Ambassadors #1 where he re-teams with Mark for his first comic-book in over six years. He's achieved legendary status in the industry, but worldwide acclaim outside too on everything from album covers and designer whiskey brands to the Radisson Red flagship hotel in Glasgow where his work wows tourists from all over the world. He and Mark have known each other thirty years and this is a fun recap about their various adventures around the world together.
NOTE: The Ambassadors #1 is on sale THIS WEEK!

Frank is THE BEST. Every time I've met anyone whose met him, they always have some story about how he's taken the time out to have a genuine interaction with them. He's somehow a total rockstar ... at the same time completely humble ...all while being the best comic artist on planet Earth. Really happy to see Scotland embracing him...documentaries...cooking shows...hotels...whiskey bottles...album covers...museum exhibits...can't wait to see what he gets into next.

I attended Fan Expo one of the years that Quitely was there, and found him to be a great guy. Such a massive inspiration he is to me and my art.

Another fantastic conversation. I've loved Frank Quitely's art since New X-Men. The Flex Mentallo mini-series he did was amazing, too. Now we have issue 1 of The Ambassadors and it's stunning work yet again. If you haven't picked up a copy, I recommend it.

What a treat to have Hitch & Frank right in a row. I’d love a nice focused say 10-15 minutes on 2000 AD when next you have a guest to do with them, say Peter Milligan, Pat Mills, Mick MacMahon (yes!), Simon Bisley, Glenn Fabry would be excellent guests!

WOW! LOL! Will Eisner and his team thought Superman was too silly of an idea and he passed on publishing them? Interesting that Quitely mentions, I'm assuming, that Eisner noticed that Siegel and Shuster were enthusiastic about their idea.

The Big Book of the Unexplained by Paradox Press was my first exposure to Frank Quitely's work. That series fees like it has fallen down the memory hole. Every book had an amazing roster of talent. The phrase "Too small for HUMAN butts!" is something that I now forever associate with Quitely haha.

that comment re EC comics aging out is interesting - but I have come across younger people who just love the bizarre nature of the covers, I'm one of them. I wasn't around anywhere close to the time of EC but the covers with women in spacesuits with exposed skin on the arms etc. fighting dinosaurs on far away planets can have timeless value if marketed right I think.....but the overall point of some p[roerties aging out is a good one.

I actually think there already is a resurgence in interest in that material due to the Fantagraphics reprints and people discovering the artists through shows like Cartoonist Kayfabe, etc.
