When Laura agreed to take on the Lindal Sweater Test Knit, I was so incredibly excited! Having already knit several of my designs, I thought she would be the perfect tester for this project. Not only did she end creating a gorgeous cardigan!!! (I love that ochre color with the warm tones on the Making Tracks), but her questions, comments and thoughts on the pattern construction and instruction were crucial to the final design! (Also as an aside, I must say, that when I first found out that Laura was a finalist on Jeopardy, I had a bit of a fan-girl moment. I grew up watching Jeopardy every week with my father and we would each try to answer as many questions as we could. It is one of my favorite memories of him and meeting her last year at Rhinebeck was really very special for me.)

The law in the Channel Island of Jersey forbade men from knitting during the harvest season on pain of a large fine or imprisonment. This was because the men would earn more for their knitting than for farm work. The law is still in place today. Jersey and Guernsey are the two largest of the island group containing several others, Alderney, Sark and Herm. The islands are situated just off the Normandy coast of France but are British islands. 🇬🇧

TANG! I, too remember the Tang astronaut commercials. Lovely creation. I am clueless about the law in the Channel Islands so I won't cheat and say what others have said. LOVED this update and the interview...I will tune in to Trivial Knits soon. Peggy, the colors in your sweater are ......absolutely no words to describe how beautiful it is! If you wear a lot of white gold or pewter I would think textured pewter buttons from the Woolly Thistle would mirror the garter texture in the leaves. Can't wait to see what you decide. I LOVE the bright colors but I gravitate to the dark jewel tones and I have yet to see anything in JFM yarns that I don't love. Get well Amanda!

What a fun episode! I remember Tang! My mother was concerned about food dyes in the 60’s, which is not the norm in the 60’s; thus we only drank Tang and Kool Aid at other homes! I really enjoyed the interview with Laura! I am thinking the law had to do with guild, and, in the 1500’s men were the knitters, particularly in the guilds. Perhaps knitting was forbidden in church…. just a guess!

So fun and had to jump right on the new colors -- I'm always a sucker for Halloween purples/blacks together. Holding out for the neon purple to add a third for this grouping! ;) Really enjoyed seeing Laura's amazing knitting -- never enough of all of you. 🥰

I think the trivia question si that knitters were spending too much time knitting (is that possible?) and the amount of hours you could knit in a day was limited.

What a fun episode!!!! Tang, Pink Pony Club, Jeopardy & forecast Peggy will be wearing her sweater very soon. Pick a contrast button and a blend button - ask us to weigh in and then either take the advice or not. Then you can blame us if you have button regret when you wear it. On the trivia question - no knitting on Sunday.

Peg’s sweater is gorgeous! Good luck with button selection. I’m with you on tending toward blending with the background more than popping with the yoke. I’m also a big fan of shell buttons that can fall in the middle depending on the color - subtle iridescence that picks up the contrast color but doesn’t match or outdo it. Thanks for sharing another fun episode, mill updates and the interview. Enjoyed it all! And hope you all feel well soon. It’s the season to build up immunity, I suppose…

As far as I can tell, it’s a myth that In Jersey it’s illegal for men to knit in July and August, and in Guernsey, it is illegal for men to knit in daylight hours. But since I can’t find a legal citation, I think it’s probably an old wives tale 😉

Clarification: *U.S.* airlines do not confiscate knitting needles, but Mexico and European airlines may/will. Way around it: take wooden needles and place them in a pencil box with pencils. ;-) (And have a backup in your checked luggage.)

Qatar airlines advised I cannot take knitting needles on 12/10. Even bamboo not allowed. But others have taken from Australia. Our Australian Airport Security say YES but Qatar say NO. So I am protesting publically. I wrote they are discriminating. I will not book with them again, but its an organised tour and the tour company said I could take bamboo needles. I need to knit on a 17hr flight.
