Is anyone else as floored as I am by the hi-hat roll that Nicko plays, starting at like 6:15?
@metalmark12142 жыл бұрын
This what I have read the entire concept album is about Moonchild- Lucifer comes to warn the parents of the Seventh Son, basically saying that all resistance is futile. Infinite Dreams- The Father of the Seventh Son, him self a Seventh Son, begins to have dreams that confuse him. Can I Play With Madness- The Father seeks a prophet for an answer to his strange visions. The Evil That Men Do- The Seventh Son is conceived, but the details in this song are very vague. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son- The Seventh Son is born, and begins to show signs of supernatural powers. The Prophecy- The Seventh Son learns that he is "The Chosen One", and part of a prophecy. The Clairvoyant- The Seventh Son begins to harness his powers, but loses control. This is probably the cause of his death. Only The Good Die Young- The Seventh Son is dead, and the cycle begins again. This may be a sentiment on how mankind is unable to learn from it's mistakes.

Iron Maiden definitely had an impact on future bands... just like they took cues from bands like Yes, Deep Purple, U.F.O. and Thin Lizzy... Bruce Dickinson also cited Alice Cooper as an influence... and even Kiss made an impact on them when Maiden opened for them in 1980.

I love this album. Even though there are great albums from the "recent" era too (eg: Brave New World, Senjutsu (huge one) etc.) that you will need to check out later on, this album from a certain point of view is the pinnacle of their career. I know it's a contradictory statement, and I love their later albums too, especially from songwriting-wise they matured a lot later too, but SSOASS, they matured their sound in a way like no one else. I started listening to Maiden with this album back in 1988. It was considered a go-to-album by even those people back then who did not like metal in general. Just the top notch production alone, the sound, the overall theme, Harris' bass sound and playing was something to refer to. We had libraries back then, and we had to do our school homework by going to the local library (HA!, unheard of...) and I knew people who just went there to check this album out, just to listen to it. Good old days.

You Said something very important, this was the Album that people not into metal got into. Since I started in 1982 and fell in love with their first 5 albums and like the 6th, SSOSS was the first album that I liked only a few songs on. Only 2000+ album I really like is Brave New World. I don't even bother with the Bayley years.
@troywilkinson1602 жыл бұрын
I’m with you. Post 2000 is lean. Really proggy without the overdriven guitar synth sound of SSOTSS. The sound of the 80s is gone forever and the energy and the old formula has been replaced. I still listen to them I still love them but I think I love nostalgia more.

Seventh Son usually considered to be the greatest Maiden album though it depends on tastes. It was a pretty taugh task to overcome all those previous great albums. It was their 7th album and they felt the pressure of their own success. The six iceberg images on the album cover represents the previous albums and the band was sailing among those siz great albums, trying not to crash and sink. Eventually they created one of their best work.

So I heard maiden the first time in school, I was growing up listening to many bands, I'm from India so likes were all over the place, local bands, anyways thats besides the point, the first time I saw their live video, I didn't hear the record, I saw it live, it was rock in Rio 2001, first of all I saw that stage and I was like, with the lighting it looked like a stage set for a drama skit, it was so theatrical and I guess the music was theatrical too, so it made sense and the next thing I noticed, they had three guitar players, so I guess hence the big stage and all the guitarist played melodies and harmonies and solos, the melodies stuck to my head and I watched it again and believe me I have always been a fan ever since that always stuck to me, and to add the number of bands that they have influenced is countless plus all their three guitarist sound very different from each other and their drummer is a fan of funk music and they are a metal band, Adrian sounds blues all the way, basically the whole package, there is no other band like them and I have heard a lot of bands that have their style and also those melodies and riffs are like wait a minute doesn't that sound like maiden. So obviously they were influential and they didnt just play in Europe or US they traveled.

..greetings and Love from Germany again. I'm sure its just a rumor, a wrong information that most Maiden Fans didn't liked the Album. However, 'SSOASS' was like The Number of the Beast (1982) and later Fear of the Dark (1992), The Final Frontier (2010), and The Book of Souls (2015), the album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart. On each of their Albums they try out different things, different style's and sounds. Cause every Fan has a different taste. Thats why the MaidenFamily is that huge. Members from all arround the World. And they could see what things fits to them. And put away what doesn't fit. Thats a learning process wich is dangerous. They could easly failed deadly. A risk that so many Bands didn't take and stayed on the same boring safe side, you know. Maiden's sucsess shows that they didn't failed. With all those different changes, theres one little important signature, they never lost. Difficult to explain what it is..whatever they had played, you will always regocnize that it is Maiden. And at the same time you asked yourself suprisedly"..wtf, thats really Maiden.? UP THE IRONS 666....EDDIE RULES

Hey - as others have probably already said, Maiden may be the foremost metal band in the world (IMO) but they weren’t the first. That accolade usually goes to Black Sabbath. There are some schools of thought that even have The Beatles (with Helter Skelter) or Pink Floyd (with The Nile Song) as starting the genre - and to be fair both songs are pretty heavy!

Man Virtual IX is atrocious except for the one stand out track and the last track. The rest of the tracks, while some have good moments, are very mediocre compared to what went before. I know it's all down to personal taste but objectively, it's a poor album from Maiden's standards. But it does hold a nostalgic significance to me and that's the only reason I listen to it on the very rare occasion. Still though, I'm intrigued to see what he makes of 'The Angel and the Gambler', a 10 minute song that should have been no more that five minutes long.

15:42 Hurm this is the side B in my cassette, side B starts with the 7th Son. By the way, I would say that the 7th Son and The Prophecy should have to be a sequel. You will notice the intro once you hear it. Iron Maiden always has the same ID in their sound, but every album they made has its own character, and don't expect, at least, up to this album, to hear the same. No Prayer for the Dying album has a different sound because Adrian Smith left and the new one came in(which is annoying to me) and this guy has a different sound, so the album has some good songs and preserves the Maiden sound, there for Seventh Son album was the last of the golden age of Maiden... for me, just for me, the rest can enjoy but I don't like what Maiden made after Adrian left.

@stevored19892 жыл бұрын
Side B is the concept bit of this album all about the life of "The Seventh Son", all the songs sort of run into each other, this is about his birth and other people trying to influence him, "The Prophecy" is about his big prophecy about the demise of his village which nobody believes, "The Clairvoyant" is about the villagers blaming him and killing him (couldn't foresee his own demise") and finally "Only The Good Die Young" lamenting his early death.
@anthonyh10672 жыл бұрын
There is no 'Prog' in Iron Maiden - the genre of Prog. Iron Maiden uses progressive elements in their music, like with the synth but that is as far as it goes. Iron Maiden is Heavy Metal and nothing but Heavy Metal. I am tired of hearing Prog fans slap that 'Prog' label on almost everything they listen to, and it is real annoying. Anyways, this is a nice review. Good stuff.
@metalmark12142 жыл бұрын
Yes, but very strong prog elements. Never got use to the Maiden I fell in love with using so much synth. They still have many good songs going forward. I think Bruce was the main influence in their change, but do not know for sure.
@anthonyh10672 жыл бұрын
Prog sucks, Mark. Iron Maiden does not. I've listened to the band since 1986. Just because a band uses synth does not mean it is Prog. There are many Black Metal and Doom bands that use synth, and they are not 'Prog bands'. Think about that.
