Elvis also performed more than 1100 concerts throughout the U.S. predominantly in the 1970's. As much as anything he wore himself out. Also, Elvis had a life after that which is portrayed in the movie. He & Priscilla separated in early 1972 and Elvis lived to 1977. The last conversation between Elvis & Priscilla in the movie didn't happen. Nor did the nasty things that supposedly radio personalities said. The movie is a biopic not an autobiography. Elvis had a long-term relationship with Linda Thompson after his divorce & was engaged to Ginger Alden when he died. He had joint custody of the true love of his life, his daughter Lisa Marie Presley.

@@Noel-ji8nm Yes I am aware, they took some liberties in making this and most movies. Also Elvis didn’t buy the Lisa Marie until 1975, Priscilla had no role in designing the inside as they also depict in the movie. What they are wearing is what they wore to the divorce hearing, etc.

Elvis had a legitimate residency at the Las Vagas Hilton which is now the Westgate. He did though travel and perform all over America.- just not abroad. But Tom Parker was not a US citizen or a creative guy. He did not know how to nurture and grow Elvis as an artist. Thats what really killed him. Also Tom Parker knew that Elvis had no interest in learning the business side of Hollywood and took advantage of that weakness and the weakness of Elvis' father who was a very nice man but just hapless and thinly educated. Tom Parker should've of bought on a young forward-thinking producer after the Beatles sold out Shea Stadium in 1965, to help Elvis navigate the changes in music. But it wasn't about Elvis or the artistry, it was about the money to feed his own ego and gambling addiction.

The Beaulieus were a clan with a plan. Especially Beaulieu's mother, Ann Iversen, who told young Priszilla that "knowing Elvis was the opportunity of a lifetime" (Priscilla quote from Ladies Home Journal, 1973). They MET in September 1959 in Germany when she was 14 and he 24. At this time, Elvis had a girlfriend back home, Anita Wood, whom he dated for several years and was only 2 years younger than Elvis. Elvis' other girlfriends up to that point had always been around his own age, and some were even up to 6 years older than he was! Beaulieu is a self-serving narcissist who knew that Elvis had a longtime girlfriend back home in the US, yet spent time with several German frauleins despite that. Little "innocent" Beaulieu did not mind being another girl he cheated on his girlfriend with. Elvis returned to the US on March 1, 1960, while Beaulieu and her family remained in Germany. There she terrorized her mother and stepfather because she had only recently found out he was not her biological father. She lied about her home situation begging Elvis to save her by letting her come over and she made family life in Germany for her parents and half-siblings hell. Beaulieu pursued Elvis, sending him risqué photos of herself (facilitated by her parents!). Her mother and stepfather played a questionable role in the development of Beaulieu's long-distance "affair" with Elvis that reeks of ulterior motives. If they'd really been worried or incensed and believed that all the initiative came from Presley, they could have stopped it right then and there. Yet, they didn't; they played along. They first allowed her to visit Elvis in the US when she was 16. More than a year passed until her next visit at 17. Beaulieu did not move to Memphis until 2 months before she turned 18 when she moved in with Elvis' father Vernon and stepmother Dee. It is total nonsense that many claim that she "lived with Elvis since she was 14". BEAULIEU AND ELVIS WEREN'T EVEN ON THE SAME CONTINENT FOR THE BETTER PART OF 3 YEARS. If anybody “groomed” her to be with an “older” man, it was her parents. During the years before their marriage, Elvis was away from Memphis a lot, making 3 movies a year in Hollywood or locations such as Hawaii and having multiple affairs with co-stars. Beaulieu wasn't locked in the basement, shackled to a wall: she was free to get a flight out of there, back to her parents. But that wasn't the plan. The plan was to let her become Mrs. Presley, with all the privileges that came with it for her AND her family. She knew Elvis could not be faithful to whomever he was dating at the time long before she and Elvis started dating, so playing the victim later is utter nonsense. According to Beaulieu, Elvis had promised to marry her when she was 21. But as her 22nd birthday was approaching and Elvis still had not kept his word, Beaulieu, her parents, and the colonel (Tom Parker) visited Elvis on a movie set. The most logical thing that happened is that a threat was made that they would go public about Elvis "dating" a minor while in his twenties if he would not keep his promise to marry her. After all: Jerry Lee Lewis had gone through a scandal that people might be reminded of if the Beaulieus had gone public: Jerry Lee Lewis had married his 13-year-old cousin! Then everything escalated and a quick wedding ceremony was arranged on May 1, 1967 (23 days before Beaulieu's 22nd birthday) in Las Vegas. The whole ceremony took just 8 minutes followed by a press conference. Beaulieu soon became pregnant, but Elvis already wanted to divorce her. 9 months after the wedding, daughter Lisa Marie was born. Beaulieu and Elvis effectively lived their lives apart as early as 6 weeks after Lisa was born when Beaulieu began an affair with her dance instructor. During the taping of the 1968 Singer Special (later redubbed the 1968 Comeback Special) Elvis had an affair with Susan Henning, while Beaulieu attended some of the tapings with her lover (the dance instructor). By 1969, after Elvis had finished his movie contracts and had begun not only his residency at The International Hotel in Las Vegas, but also his touring around the USA, he was away from Memphis an average of 150 - 200 days a year. He bought a mansion for his family, at 144 Monovale Drive in Holmby Hills/California which became Beaulieu's residence while Elvis - in between tours - preferred to stay at his Hillcrest Rd, Beverly Hills house. Their marriage was over in 1969 and they increasingly lived separate lives. They did try to get back closer together in 1970, for the sake of Lisa Marie, but that failed. By then, Beaulieu had started taking karate lessons at Ed Parker's karate studio and subsequently met Mike Stone, whom she'd first seen during a karate tournament in 1968, and soon began an affair with him. By late 1971, Beaulieu, Lisa Marie and Stone (who had left his pregnant wife and child) shared an apartment in Belmont Shore and gossip rags were beginning to pick up on the break-up between Beaulieu and Elvis. The separation was effective as of shortly before Elvis' 37th birthday, January 8, 1972. Elvis was livid and he moved on: started dating Linda Thompson in the summer of 1972. In August of 1972, a property settlement agreement was filed and he filed for divorce ON HIS 38TH BIRTHDAY, Jan. 8, 1973. The divorce was finalized on Oct. 9, 1973, FIFTY YEARS AGO IN 2023. Elvis had his attorneys add a special clause to their divorce decree stating she was not to use the name Presley for a career. In interviews between the divorce and Elvis' death, Beaulieu described him as a has-been loser, absent/bad father and husband and adamantly stated she wanted to be known as Priscilla Beaulieu, to be her own person and that she was not Elvis Presley's property. In a 1973 interview with Ladies Home Journal she literally stated that there was "no possibility of a reconciliation with Elvis". After his death, she claimed that they had agreed to get back together when he was 50 and she was 40 and that he was the love of her life. She also started claiming that she and Elvis remained friends until his death. That was another lie; just listen to what his cousin Billy Smith tells about that, or what his dad, Vernon, wrote about that in a letter that has been made public. Elvis did not mention this opportunist in his will AT ALL. Not as his ex-spouse, not as the mother/guardian of his only child Lisa Marie and certainly not by name. After the divorce, and after Mike Stone, Beaulieu had multiple (live-in) relationships. In 1984 she met Marco Garibaldi with whom she had a relationship for 21 years. They separated in 2006. Together they had a son, Navarone, in 1987. She never married Garibaldi, although she had a much longer relationship with him than she'd had with Elvis. It is extremely unfortunate that people believe all the fantasy tales Beaulieu tells. They gloss over the tons of inconsistencies that have arisen as time moved on and Beaulieu started changing her narrative, often contradicting supposed facts she told earlier. She's as glib as a used car salesperson because she can spin yarns like nobody, making those gullible people even believe her excuses for those contradictions. Those who believe Beaulieu and her family would have acted the same way and would have been equally tolerant of his behavior (extramarital affairs etc) if Elvis had remained a truck driver learning to be an electrician are beyond naive. The Beaulieus had dollar signs in their eyes when they pimped out their rebellious (step)daughter.

Yes, the radio DJ’s were not nice to Elvis during that time and they did say these things because they did see him as a has been comparing him to the music of the time, which is amazing. Just like those today. To say this scene never happened is from those who don’t know. I’ve seen this seen in other movies and most likely is a combination.of conversations he and Priscilla had on many occasions. Elvis was never without a woman so yes, there was Linda Thompson and Ginger. But as much as everyone wants to erase Priscilla from his life, he loved her and was a part of his life from 1960 to their divorce in 1973; and thereafter. So to imply Linda and Ginger had same or more importance is “hog was”. I lived it. I was born a fan by parents who were fans from the time he hit the scene, as they would say. The move is spot on, with some dramatic licensing.

The movie is not accurate! Although Austin did a good job. However again Elvis would not be pleased with about how his Momma was portrayed and he was not depressed all the time. In fact that March before he passed he was on the beach in Hawaii playing football and smiling. There are pictures showing him.

-- - - - - only thing I disliked about the movie (and I saw it 3x !) was erasing Elvis' Country Music roots as well as love for Pop Ballads (Dean Martin, Bing, etc). I could throw classical & opera into his influences too, but that's another story. They totally omitted it. Instead, current generations unknowingly walk away from this Elvis biopic thinking that Rock & Roll as well as Elvis were only a product of the blues, with no other influences. Ironically,, Elvis (and Bill Hailey to some extent) historically have been credited with mixing Country (and other elements) with blues music and coming up with something different..... rock & roll. I think Rufus Thomas put it best, "elvis injected something into black music, and came up with a style OF HIS OWN."

Though this was a created scene for the movie to show where Elvis was at this point in his life , it’s based on actual experiences shared by Elvis and Priscilla and many of their private conversations during that time. Priscilla and Lisa Marie both were in full support of this movie being made and I’m sure gave such insight to the film. I was 16 when Elvis died and I remember those years before his death hearing the media talk bad of Elvis saying he was now just a aging overweight rock star that had performances were he slurs or forgets some of the words while singing at a few different shows. And it was factually true that Priscilla and other people in Elvis’s close circle wanted him to get help at the “ Betty Ford” rehabilitation clinic in San Diego to ease him off his prescription drug addictions. I remember reading and hearing about all of this back then , including when he would get checked into the hospital in Memphis for a week for what was called exhaustion in order to get rest and the care he needed to get his strength back for his next long domestic tour…. They would always show a photo of the hospital rooms with aluminum foil over the windows of his room in the paper or on the news then too. Of course Elvis had real physical health issues too that were slowly bringing him down too , thus his early death was a combination of everything in his life

The movie was BS. the fact that YOU said it made his life look bleak. shows how much BS it was. Elvis's life was anything but bleak. he loved life. he loved having fun. the fact is Baz refused to interview any of Elvis's still living close friends. Baz made up the whole movie. he took actual events and rearranged them, changed them, made up ALL dialog. just as Elvis's closest friend, cousin and confidant Billy Smith stated. "the movie is BS!! so let go of the thoughts that Elvis had a "bleak and depressing life. he didn't.

Loved the movie. Loved that it focused on his career and not so much on personal relationships. The cinematography was fantastic. The costumes looked like they reached into Elvis’ closet. Austin Butler deserved his Oscar nomination, especially since he did all his own singing for the first act ( 1950 era). Not every detail was right on point, but it was much more on point than Bohemia Rhapsody. It was definitely better than all the tv movies. Let’s remember Elvis and the Beauty Queen ( Don Johnson. really!) This is a 10 compared to that.

The movie does show how much Elvis loved his life and career , but also shows the darker side of fame and that even a superstar like Elvis had obstacles and sadness he had to deal with just like everyone else. The movie shows how he was trapped by by not only his fame , but his manager who just wanted to keep the money train rolling without letting Elvis evolve as a entertainer and allow his inner passion to keep burning. The same old routine year after year was becoming just a grind to Elvis and though he always gave his best because he did love his fans , it was just not as much fun anymore for him then. The movie isn’t a complete biography of his life , just a nice betrayal of his life from childhood to his death. Just relax and enjoy the movie and be thankful it was made because it has brought whole new younger generations of new Elvis fans now that will keep his music and memory alive even longer now !
