+Jrod R Thanks for the question. You might need to check the machine you are welding with. For inverter-based machines Tungsten "balling" may be created if you are using pure Tungsten (it is the green-banded Tungsten). This type is not recommended for inverter-based machines (like the Miller Dynasty or Maxstar machine). Instead, we would recommend a 2% Ceriated Tungsten. The cracking you are experiencing may be the result of the base metal and filler material being used -- you may simply need a filler metal with more ductility. Check out the following chart to better match the base and filler metals: www.hobartbrothers.com/download/detail/aluminum_filler_metal_selection_chart/491.html. Hope this helps!

I have viewed this video a few times and have taken notes on this welder. I am an ornamental aluminum welder. I am using this welder and I am learning a lot from this on how to better my performance at work! I keep getting a balled tungsten so I had to watch the video again. took notes and will try it tomorrow. I also took notes on pulser control. I need my welds to look sweet! people will see them on some of the hand rails we do. otherwise most of the welds are hidden from view. or ground smooth.. so I have to have good penetration!! so I am wondering if the pulser will help. not everything is breaking after they grind it all away but the heat from powder-coating causes the aluminum to warp i guess and some of my shit has cracked. but only a few it's not always! I'm not that bad of a welder. but, if I can be rid of that I'll be good and confident. we also do a lot of outside corner welds so again I took notes on waveshape...
@solomongreen66552 жыл бұрын
You almost always want to start welding aluminum with a pre balled up looking shape ground tungsten anyway, hence why its balling up on you because it should already be that shape from a fresh start of an aluminum (only aluminum though not an intended tungsten shape grind for any other metals) weld or tack. But yes the electrode type makes a world of difference. Try a pre ball shaped tungsten grind when striking your next arc. It throws a better arc in my humble opinion. KZbin is one of your best friends when learning almost anything. Good luck mate!

Why are some welders not available or have different names in Europe? Like the Migmatic 250 (Europe) vs the magmatic 252 (USA) the 250 doesn't even have digital display. The reason I ask is I was looking at a Miller mpi220p Multi process welder but can't find it on your website. It cost €1850 in Europe and as you know that's a lot of cash. Does it have something to do with the tax system??

On my 300 DX I can set how many amps the HF uses to start the arc by pressing the HF start button and the Lift Arc buttons while switching the machine on. This setting can be as low as 1 amp. This is different from the Initial Amp setting on the front panel which can go as low as 5 amps. Can you explain the difference? Also, can you explain the 4T for mini logic control?

long time no comments! Hello Miller, I have a few years into the trade and comfortable in it. S/GMAW. Though I just acquired my first welder. It is a Miller Gold Star 652. I have a pfd of all the features, but upon finding this video I have a concern. I will soon be putting it to work on heavywall aluminum, (I hope.) I say I hope after hearing you say aluminum is AC only. The aluminum parts will be done with tig, will my welder do the job? Thanks in advance!
@cdavis99358 жыл бұрын
and if you have one around, maybe a vid for the tig set up with my New to me welder!
@MillerWelders8 жыл бұрын
+anotherpersons namehere Thanks for reaching out and congratulations on your first welder! The Gold Star 652 can do some DC TIG welding at high amperage (>100 A). Aluminum requires the AC TIG process. Unfortunately, the Gold Star 652 is not a fit for AC TIG welding. It is best suited for Stick welding and carbon arc gouging. We recommend a Dynasty or Syncrowave for AC TIG welding or a Millermatic with a spool gun for MIG welding. We hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any further questions. Thank you!

+Miller Welders while I agree with you, I don't have that kind of money. I have been doing some legwork in additional parts...is there some kind of addition I can purchase to add this to my welder?
@MillerWelders8 жыл бұрын
+anotherpersons namehere Unfortunately, there isn't an addition to the Gold Star 652. You will need a machine with AC Tig capabilities (like the Dynasty or Syncrowave). Please let us know if you have any further questions. Thank you!

C Davis lincoln makes a cheap ac tig welder, the square wave 200. It's $1,500 and has a very good amperage range. The skill cap or how high the machine can take you is almost limitless. There was a person that's gone to a welding competition on a square wave. Welding tips and tricks did a video on it i think. Esab also has an ac tig for $1,100 but i'd save a bit and go for the lincoln if i were you. Yeah thats right screw you miller for not making affordable ac tig welders.
