I am not saying what the did was right but given that they were young and poor and struggling I understand why they did what they did, they just wanted to succeed and become famous. They did not sell drugs or hurt anyone they just lip synced some songs.

@Van... True, to have people believe you are singing when someone else is singing is wrong. But, it was not what they EVER wanted but it was what that crooked producer frank farian wanted. Because of Frank's music reputation, they trusted him and signed a contract they didn't read; that were a few pages presented to them but deceitfully added to more they knew nothing about. They were straight manipulated, and tricked into a monetary obligation situation they could not pay back. That frank took advantage of all Rob and Fab's lacks as youth and used them...to use them both. Being so young and put into this type of horrible trap...that producer frank was the mastermind but he bought people off to make sure Rob and Fab were blamed alone. That is wrong beyond so many wrongs.

If they would initially said that you were just performing, would you still have been so successful? In any case ! Both of them could dance and entertain perfectly and they were also so good-looking, especially Rob, a mix of German and American with blue eyes Girl crush of the 80s It's a real shame that the two were marketed like that Both could have become world stars with sufficient vocal coaching It's a shame for Rob that this ruined him so much Rip Rob 💔 🕊️

These two young talented young men had a dream. Frank is a snake. He took complete advantage. Neither could barely speak English. Fab signed a contract that was written in German. Fab didn't speak German or understand it. Neither had legal representation. Worse the contract was signed for three years. They didn't know until after they had signed the contract that they wouldn't be allowed to sing. Both of them could sing, dance, had killer moves and great stage presence. This cost of precious life (Rob). A life. And Frank never suffered one consequence he is a millionaire or a billionaire. I will always love Mili Vanilli.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

At that moment, all you really want to do is die because there's nowhere left to hide. Yes, Rob & Fab made mistakes, but there were a lot of people behind the scenes who also cashed in, but were able to walk away. We all make mistakes at a young age, and their mistake was signing a contract with Frank Farian, who orchestrated the whole thing and simply move on with his career, without reading it completely. Unfortunately the consequences of their mistake could never be repaired even after admitting wrong-doing, apologizing and begging for a second chance performing with their real voices: none of that gave them back the money or Grammy award, it didn't return the respect from the media, it didn't cure Rob Pilatus from a severe depression that led him to addiction and subsequent problems with the law, and especially it will never bring Rob back to life.

Even despite all of the threats and lawsuits they have received. You really gotta give 'em a great amount of respect and credit just for being so brave and honest like that! These men can not only sing and dance EXTREMELY WELL, but they truly represent just how COOL and SEXY late 80s/early 90s musicians should be like. You can no longer see anybody like them on the streets anymore. The way they dressed, the way they talked, and their gentlemen-like, polite European mannerisms (even the way they moved) are just on a whole other entire different level compared to today's modern-day FAILURES and DISASTERS. I know it is important to first learn how to love yourself, before learning how to love others; but FUCK today's people and FUCK their style of music in general!

@@clopper3753 The biggest issue with all of this is the fact that the news media world-wide had enough peoples' attention, so a lot of people believed Rob and Fab were frauds without question. Even after the press conference, the damage had been done to a major amount. Rob and Fab hung in there as long as they could, but they weren't seeing any success after the scandal. Rob's own adoptive family had cut ties to him after said scandel as well, which kicked Rob's psyche into drugs and alcohol to dull his internal pain. This is on Frank Farian for suckering those boys into a false promises and trapping them into contract that didn't allow them to sing at all. People believes and assume that Rob and Fab were willingly a part of it, but missed the fact that they either had to do the contract or pay up big time when they didn't have much money and/or an attorney when they first signed on. Some people judge to quickly to understand events behind the scenes.

@Samson-cr3ly 5 ай бұрын
@@clopper3753to say they were without brains is a slap in the face. They were young, naive, and ignorant to the "music business", and how cut throat it is. All they wanted was an opportunity to showcase their talent. All Farian wanted was an opportunity to manipulate another artist(s) for his own gain. If you listen to Fabs side of the story, they were manipulated into working off the debt they had accumulated after signing the contract for a three album deal. They were seduced and trapped. Not saying they didn't play a role, but they were not the main ones orchestrating this entire fraud.

Heck the narrative in most of their song titles suggested a fraud. "It's true", yeah. Vanilla flavor most of the time contains no real vanilla and is entirely faked. They were dressing up as pirates. One guy was a frenchmen speaking no english, and he was supposed to be capable of rapping. Even the fact that the photographies of them were just too good, more like art shots than music act promotion was just too fishy. This is a fairytale gone bad. They were supposed to entertain the German music market which is a bit of Lala-Land anyways as the german public tv is mostly for geezers. When they made it to the US and the US music industry clearly went along with the scheme (which is just too stupid to be not found out). Then the relationship between Farian and these guys broke apart of which both are at fault. Farian didn't let them sing. They didn't want to stay calm for a while, which is what Farian wanted. No one was able to say no to the money.

The sad thing is that Rob advises youngsters to stay away from drugs and then he became a drug addict himself after this scandal broke lose, which in the end killed him.I have to admire Rob and Fab, that they were so brave to face the media as they did here. The whole Milli Vanilli thing is sad, because the original singers had to stand by and see, two young guys taking all the credit for the singers work, while these two guys obviously was very naive and used by the producer Frank Farian. Milli Vanilli was an illusion for all of us, who like to look at cool, young, nice looking people.The looks are obviously sometimes more important than the music as in this case.

If you don't care about their act then just walk away. Your negativity is not welcomed. I love them. They reek of European class. I've met European royalty y America can lick their dust. Shalom.

This is nuts, I remember this well and I was a kid at this time .....I remember the grammy and awards they were winning and them giving high fives knowing good and well that they were part of this scam. I guess money talks huh?! Well, I can't judge them, I never wouldn't have went along with that knowing there would be dire consequences at the end but it's horrible how they were used to promote a false image by the wicked music industry. So glad Fabrice is still doing music in spite of and to Rob: Requiescat in Pace!

It’s not as simple as that. Rob and Fab signed a contract and it was only after they realized that the producer wanted them to lipsync. They refused and had to pay back the money the producer gave them every month. They were poor and could not pay back because they had used the money. So they were forced to continue. High fives, the dance, the show, all the entertainment…. were part of the contract. And they did a good job entertaining the whole world, even though they didn’t sing. « don't judge a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes »

I don't believe one damn bit that if you were in the same situation that they were in before they sign the contract that you wouldn't have done the same thing. I.e. Let's say you are "BROKE", have very little but have good looks and a guy or lady walks up to you and says.... I want to make you popular, I will pay you X amount of money, you will have woman all over you, people dressing like you, etc., but you don't get to actually sing, you just have to learn the songs and lip-sync to them that you would not take that deal. If you say you wouldn't. YOU ARE A DAMN LIAR!!!!
