Watch Millie’s first lesson on slip roads. In today’s lesson we started on slip roads. How to join safely and match the speed of the traffic and aslo how to slow down in good time. Block changes from 4th gear down into 2nd to control the speed of the car more easily.
Millie had a little bit of trouble getting into 3rd gear but we worked on this during the lesson and by the end she was able to safely join slip roads without any guidance.
Thank you all for your continued support

You're a great instructor! I'm from the U.S. and will be visiting England in a few weeks. I was a bit nervous and this video gives me some comfort to see how well people drive on British roads. Over here, our driving licensure isn't nearly as thorough and sometimes motorists are unpredictable. This video also helped me get the correct mindset and a better sense of driving on the opposite side of the road. Thanks for making the video and again props for being such a calm and helpful teacher!

The difficulty with 3rd was interesting. I think you touched on the reason why this happened when you said feeling the pressure from these slip roads. The reason for this mistake, especially the attempt to force the gear when the gear stick is sticking between 1st and 3rd in my experience is tension brought about by anxiety and stress. When a learner tenses up due to stress they tend to grip too hard on the stick and try and force it into 3rd. Often getting 1st by accident. Even when they've been doing this gear change without any problems previously.The mental anxiety translates into a physical tension when doing the action of a gear change. I don't think the stress was caused by the slip roads, it was more the roundabouts. She needs to understand how her anxiety caused the gear fault and how to reduce anxiety because under exam conditions her anxiety will likely be higher and there is an increased risk that even if she hasn't made this fault for a long time she may make it under stress during the exam or once she's passed dealing with new situations. The breathing technique is a good way to reduce anxiety, but sometimes its important to take a breather aswell. Mille coped really well especially since she had no idea how to navigate those extremely busy roundabouts.

I think the problem happens when pupils push the lever too far forward from 2. Once this has happened the lever will not move to the right as it is in a channel, the 1/2channel. Neutral does not exclusively exist between the 3/4 channel it extends the full width that you can move the stick left and right, all of that area is neutral. Once you find that left/right free movement neutral area it springs to the 3/4 channel. It is an easy two stage process.
@_RDMPTN
@_RDMPTN Жыл бұрын
@@keith6400 Exactly. If she's struggling it's better for her to go into neutral first then push forward to 3rd.

Hi, thanks for the great content! I got my licence abroad and these videos really help me get a feel for driving in the UK. Looking at this video, you tell Millie to “lean forward to check blind spot” (at around 18:00). Just wondering if you ever tell your students to look over the shoulder when changing lanes or do you think that checking all your mirrors is sufficient? Thanks!

Failed yesterday on a slip road. My instructor advised me that I should come down the slip road at 30mph (signposted 50) and once I get onto the carriage way then accelerate to 50 but when I tried to join the carriage way it was quite busy so I had to slow down and for some reason a van decided to stop dead on the carriage way to let me onto the road and my examiner failed me for awareness and planning as I made the van stop even though he didn’t have to stop as I had to stop on the slip road. He suggested that I wasn’t going fast enough on the slip road but I was only doing what my instructor told me to do. Other than that only had 4 minors so was gutted

its very easy to pass if you get examiner for it... people get their licence not knowing anything.. few days ago i saw new driver car driving in the opposite direction on roundabout.. and when he realized that he turned the car around in the roundabout.. he got his licence recently so that tells you its only a gamble who will be your examiner.. so my advice at least for car category test would be to just drive, dont think too much about rules and how to do it right, dont stress yourself, drive and dont get into an accident and dont bother other drivers, thats only thing to focus on.

All in all good video, but unfortunately I found the moment at @8:13 to not be so good. Driving instructor should have got the driving student to cancel the left signal while moving to the right hand side of the carriageway. Why signal left and move right? It could be a danger to passing motorcyclists.
