I always tell new learner drivers to always try to have several lessons with 2/3 different driving instructors (at the early stages) so they can spot bad habits and encourage the learner to fix the issues before they become a problem. Some instructors are milking learners and if you've had 70 hours of driving lessons and the learner doesn't understand the basics such as gears, signaling, signs, and who has priority on the roads then change driving instructors immediately! FYI - the poor gearbox had a rough day that day. :(
@rdu2392 жыл бұрын
I say instructors should be very finicky and fiddle with the learners at the first days in the driving lessons, instilling them the importance of driving basics as early as possible. I've had heard learners doing decent progress and when in at their final day in driving lesson a very stern and pedantic instructor happens to be their final assessor and just exposed learner's faults too much, basically almost throwing every previous days worth of driving lessons he got with pretty good ratings. That assessor almost gave the person a low grade if not for the learner begged his way out.

Maybe learning in an automatic would reduce some of the stress of gear changes and clutch control which appear to be her main problem?
@magnum1643 ай бұрын
Agreed, I know this is over a year ago. In the US about 50 years ago or so when we took our drivers test a lot of the females (back then guys drove tractors) didnt know how to use a 4 speed so they looked around for those who had automatics to use for your test - tests were done in your own car. The reason one of the pass/fail is starting/stopping on a hill. If you had an automatic the instructors generally skipped that requirement. But I dont understand why there is such a emphasis on making these people use a stick, when it is clear they cant. Not everyone can. They should spend time in a parking lot practicing learning the functions of just the clutch without surrounding traffic. If I remember correctly you were stuck with Automatic lic, till you passed the test with a stick. But that did not last long.

@@magnum164 Isn't it like that if you pass the test in automatic gearbox car, you can only drive a car with automatic gearbox? That's how it works in my country.
@magnum1642 ай бұрын
@@monikak6121 It used to be that way in my state. I am in the US so each state could be different, and yes your lic was marked Automatic only - no longer the case.. But that was stopped years ago due to fact more-more cars are now simply automatic by default. Also, cars sold in the US no longer have a clutch, I can drive my car shifting gears and I don't have to worry about downshifting as the car does it automatically as well as braking. I am in 6th gear, break to a complete stop for a readlight and the car is already shifting down to first. And I have the same advantage a car with a true stick/clutch would have. Not sure on ice though, there is an advantage on icy roads as the disengagement of the clutch prevents will spin even at stop. In fact cars are seldom sold with a stick/clutch here unless a sport vehicle or special order (and that means higher insurance rates). Not sure the class car she has in Mercedes but in the US they are all sold with 4MATIC which is a none gear/clutch combination. Not sure if you can even order with a clutch (again outside sport/offload trucks) and if you could the cost would be higher. But every country is "different" in their needs, and even in the US each state is also. It is just odd for me to see a drivers test today in a stick with clutch. EDIT: In the US there are restrictions still on size of vehicle (commercial trucks), motorcycles and others. And each requires either a specific test or permit.

This reminds me of a lesson in which I constantly went out of my way to ran over cats, dogs, and even pedestrians. My instructor kept preventing me from harming others with her effective and timely use of the pedals, while at the same time doing her best to ignore my loud maniacal laughter. Kudos to Aman for her professionalism.

If she had an actual instructor, I gotta say that's embarrassing on how badly she was taught, maybe she is hard to teach, which is why she has 70+ hours, but someone must've told her she needs 1st gear on every turn which is just completely wrong and it was painful to watch, very rough on the gears, and lack of gearstick knowledge and speed, seems like a lovely person though
@rajjatkumar27032 жыл бұрын
I feel the same, I think her instructor she had wasn’t good and wasn’t teaching her the correct stuff and she’s picked up those bas techniques. My old instructor was like that (use to me make me practice the old corner reversing manoeuvre) I had 40 hours with him and left cause he would say my driving is bad and need more lessons. Booked a mock test with another instructor took a hour lesson before my test and passed it first time. If she gets a good instructor she will definitely benefit!
@suni4852 жыл бұрын
It could be her nerves as well. Because I am very nervous when I hear the word test and I make all the mistakes which I don't do normally. On a normal driving lesson with my instructor I am fine and he says that I am a good driver but as soon as he mentions a mock test my nerves start to kick in.

Hi Aman, I see that you really risked by taking Saema to higher speed routs with giant roundabouts. Saema has a set of wrong information about how the car technically works, that happens to people who try to avoid paying an instructor at the beginning of their learning and choose to learn with a family member (I do not know if this is the case with Saema), I hope that she can get ride of those bad, dangerous habits soon.

@@Saimaavlogs i think people are too comfortable being negative behind a screen and don't necessarily think the learner will see the comments. I agree with this comment, you can drive, and were really good on the slower roads, it was mainly the faster ones and the roundabouts for the bigger issuss! I think you just need specific help from a good instructor, who explains things well. The mistakes all stemmed from the same base imo (gears mainly) so once thats tackled hopefully the rest will follow! Best of luck, let us know when you pass! I also find it helpful to have a lesson journal of sorts & after them i write down good points, things to improve on points and what i should focus on in the next week/if i can search anything in between which may help in the next one. Nothing negative towards her, but I really wonder who tought her to switch back to first gear so much. In my country (Netherlands) we're tought that basically (with modern cars) that as long as your car is still moving, you could keep it in second gear. It seemed almost automatic to her to always use engine braking in 1st gear when she wants to slow down, very strange.

Why does she keep wanting to go into first while she’s still moving? Even if she's persistent on doing manual, she should try an automatic first, after a few weeks she could switch to a manual but with a full concentration on the road and following all rules. My brother was like that, not that bad but still doing some dangerous moves, so I got him a great automatic Mazda 3 with stability control and she did great since first days, no more risk than scraping the tires or defense which is not the big deal for a first car.

I have driven back India 7 years and not a single ticket but to get DL I am taking lessons in the UK and let me tell you although I have practical knowledge of smallest of things on the road I still make mistakes while mucking around road signs, roundabouts, junctions and so on. Hmm, massively questionable as to how she has learnt to drive so far! Seriously needs accredited, fully qualified driving instructor lessons, and perhaps it would lend her well to learn to drive in an automatic rather than manual! That way, she should then build confidence and enough knowledge about how a car operates and how to read signs to then be ready for her test. Lots more work required before she even considers putting in for her test. This mock test very quickly turned into an actual lesson! Wow, I could not be an instructor, I really don’t think I’d have the patience! Hats off to all of these amazing instructors!!!

I was exactly like her. I may have had 70+ hours. I failed my first test with 1 serious and 1 minor, with my first instructor, after 30h. I felt really confident passing the second time but my instructor had to stop teaching. I then had 3 different instructors with whom I didn't click at all, and I felt regressing and becoming more dangerous on the road, instead of improving. They were all giving me different ways of handling the gearbox and the clutch. It was so confusing. In the end, I switched to learning automatic, after having 4 different types of teachings in my head. I no longer had to focus on manoeuvring the car and just focus on the road. I ended up getting my automatic licence after only 10 hours. I wonder if that's what happened to her. If she had so many lessons, she must have had too many instructors.
