@@rmweidner7596 Now I've _heard_ he was there to represent the American Film Industry (c) or something like that (at least Pop Up Video said that) but I honestly would not be very shocked if they said that later to cover for Dan being there. But he's an actual Blues Brother so I don't think they minded _too_ much. (Also it'd be ironic if that's what they invited him for, considering how absolutely Canadian he is.)

One correction though, Phil Collins never played percussion on it. But he did play the drums on the British equivalent, which was Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas.

There was a famine in Africa and this was the American contribution - collecting money to help. Later - the summer 1985 "Live Aid" was arranged in London and Philadelphia (US) - in stadiums with artists who performed 20 minutes each - and then the other venue had artists/groups doing the same while the stage was prepared for the next performance - - the performance from the venue without artist(s) was shown at the other on big screens and on television world wide via satellites. An estimate of 1.9 billion viewers world wide - - me included from Denmark. The best performance of all - - was "Queen" from London. It can be seen here on KZbin - also with reactors if you wish - . You will probably know some of the music - - . "Queen" is still considered one of the best groups world wide - of all times - with The Beatles as no. 1. If you are not familiar with "Queen" - they are still touring - they started in 1970 - now with Adam Lambert in front - the original singer was Freddie Mercury who died in 1991 from AIDS you can find more on KZbin . Thank you for your reaction.

Credits. Produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian. Orchestrated by Quincy Jones. Arranged by John Barnes. Written by the late Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. Recorded at the end of the 1985 Grammys in the studio 🎙 of late Kenny Rogers, Los Angeles. Programming by Mike Boddicker (not the MLB pitcher), Ian Underwood and Steve Porcaro. Synthesizers by them, Barnes, Omartian, David Paich and Greg Philinganes. Synth bass by Louis Johnson. Percussion by Phil Collins and Paulinho da Costa. Drums 🥁 by John Robinson (not the late Los Angeles Rams head coach). Some time stamps. Lionel Richie. 1:33. Stevie Wonder.1:40. Paul Simon. 1:49. Late Kenny Rogers. 1:55. Late James Ingram. 2:07. Late Tina Turner. 2:14. Billy Joel. 2:19. Late Michael Jackson. 2:26. Diana Ross.2:38. Dionne Warwick. 2:55. Willie Nelson. 3:03. Late Harry Belafonte. 3:15. Bruce Springsteen. 3:24. Kenny Loggins. 3:28. (40 years 🎂 since he and Dean Pitchford wrote Footloose.) Steve Perry. 3:35. (40 years 🎂 since he released his solo album) Daryl Hall. 3:42 MJ Huey Lewis. 3:56. Cyndi Lauper. 4:01. Kim Carnes. 4:09. Chorus. (Everybody) 4:15. Bob Dylan. 4:55. Chorus. Late Ray Charles. 5:33 abd closing voice. (He signed off American TV 📺 shows for many years.) Liner notes. 1 Dan Akroyd, 🇨🇦 and Phil Collins 🇬🇧, percussion, are the only non Americans who performed. 2 Humbertico Gatica is the only person directly involved with Band Aid, USA for Africa and Northern Lights. He engineered for all 3 supergroups. 3 The only complete groups who were participants were The News and The Pointer Sisters. Bonnie Pointer is the surviving member. RIP to her 3 sisters. 4 Heavy metal musicians were invited but all declined. 5 Madonna wanted to join but was told her voice was "not strong enough". That part went to Cyndi Lauper. Madonna appeared at Live Aid but skipped the ending to express her frustration. 6 Sammy Hagar wanted to join fellow Bay Area musicians HL and the News, LB, SP and Pointer Sisters but had no invitation. 7 Live Aid happened in July of the same year. Some musicians from any of the supergroups performed. Others such as Madonna and Rick Springfield who were not in any supergroup performed. Key. Late = no longer alive in 2024. RIP 🙏

This really shows how everything humans do will just fade into dust. At the time of this, these were huge forces in the music industry and easily recognizable, but for a young person today, they are nobody. Best to follow this up with Kansas's Dust In The Wind because that is all we are. BTW, this isn't a knock on Millie, she has no way of knowing. She actually did pretty good identifying some, probably because she is a musician herself.

His little sister? That is Diana Ross who started her career in the 1960´s. These are some of the most well known artists of the 1980´s. As a singer maybe it would be good to just use the google a bit to find out this stuff since this is part of history of music in general. Then again in 30 years someone else probably wonders who is Beyonce or Ariana Grande or Taylor Swift.

5 of 23 (by my count), but in all fairness most of these performers were popular (probably) before you were born.

I cry every time I see this. For 10 lousy minutes in 1985 when this was broadcast all over the world simultaneously we had relative peace. And she doesn't know 75% of these artists and needs to look them up, read in detail to understand the weight of their being there to help save starving refugees in Africa. It was odd she knew Quincy Jones and not Paul Simon for example.

They're all talented but the best singer in that group, in my opinion, is Steve Perry. Steve Perry is a god.

That's total disrespect to Ray Charles. One of the top five American singers of all time.

@@markmurphy558 If you read my comment I said "in my opinion". I wasn't stating it as a fact and I wasn't disrespecting anyone. Stating an opinion is not disrespectful. I also said they're all talented. If you think Ray Charles is a better singer than Steve Perry that is 100% ok and is not disrespectful to anyone (even Steve Perry). Out of all the singers I have ever heard in my life, the one with the voice most appealing to MY ears is Steve Perry.

It was a shame that Madonna and Prince did not want to participate (the first one because she didn’t want to cancel a date of her concert and the second one because, as a prima donna, he didn’t want to appear if Michael Jackson was also there). What children!

Let's talk Ray Charles, i won't say is underrated but he was larger than life both in personality as in music, we didnt "have" him in Europe at his peak or at his later years to be fair, he really was something else (i wont talk about Stevie Wonder) cause he found fame in Europe as well. And it's sad "woke" people are trying to portray society like we didn't endorse someone who was black, white, whatever color and thats not true and it's still not true today, sure there are racists, sure there are homophobics, but usually it tended to be on your select social circle and it would mean nothing... its sad to see what politics are doing to the world...
