The little girl with the dog in the pick-up truck is Clint Eastwood's daughter. The Blue Bear played by Lucia Rijker helped trained Hilary Swank in Boxing for this movie roll. Lucia is a professional Boxer and Kickboxer from the Netherlands. Hilary gained 19 pounds of muscle training for this and also got a serious infection from a blister on her foot that almost landed her in the Hospital during the making of this movie.

It’s a learned skill and yes you can. If you join a reputable gym for fitness, you’ll never be made to spar. You’ll just do drills and cardio. I really recommend learning to box. I used my skills twice in real life, to defend myself and another person.

Yep. Once Maggie died, Blue Bear would be subject to a manslaughter charge. Although a prosecutor might suspect the euthanasia and go for a softer charge.

I remember seeing the poster for this film so many times... for many years. I mean for a 'boxing movie', it just seemed like the weirdest choice of imagery. Never thought about it again. One day I finally watched the movie. It was a rental so no artwork on the blockbuster box. Then one day I came across the poster. I just stood there staring at it. I know nowadays the term gets improperly used a lot, but dang, it's truly genius.

This is part of Eastwood's "sad old man" trilogy: Unforgiven, this, and Gran Torino. All of them all-time great films. Definitely eventually get to the simultaneous WW2 films he directed from 2006 about the Battle of Iwo Jima, "Flags of Our Fathers" and "Letters from Iwo Jima." He's not in either of them, but it's got that soul to it.

Clint Eastwood was the director of this film also. Another great film he directed is based upon a true story. It's called "Midnight in The Garden of Good and Evil". Great cast also!

Showtime's show Yellowjackets added Hilary Swank for season 3. Hilary has won 2 Oscars one for this movie and the other for Boy's Don't Cry.

I used to box (for fitness, never competed) and kick box and this movie is pretty realistic. Also, coaches tend to be very blunt but they also love to see you reach your goals. They are your biggest cheerleader.
