Hey y’all! I want to clarify something. For the salary negotiations part, I said benefits aren’t included in the total Comp in terms of negotiations. So you negotiate the money but the benefits are normally set in stone. So for the sake of negotiating the money, you wouldn’t include benefits in your total comp. I hope this helps!

To Sherman's last statement in this video, how would you advise someone breaking into tech to pace themselves on the job so that they stand out as great workers and prepare for their daily tasks, but also operate in a way that ensures they don't over work themselves to the point of exhaustion in efforts to be that token new hire/tenured employee? How do you suggest balancing workload and realistic workplace expectations? Should this be mainly tracked with management and performance metrics or coupled with personal goals/tasks?

Hey Oneisha, Tech companies are standard 9-5 schedules. But many are 10-4 (like the ones I’ve worked for). They’re very big on mental health (some give you paid mental health days off) and they’re huge on caring about their diversity and people. I could keep going in but you get the point. These aren’t jobs to kick your feet up and relax, but these are the best culture friendly companies to work at. It’s standard for tech companies to be fun, relaxing and caring

I’ve worked doing help desk for a short period of time. But learning about the different avenues of tech is interesting. Now I’m looking into several career paths of tech, that does not require security plus etc. I don’t have a problem studying to get security plus, but I think it’s worth seeing what other options there are, within the tech field, without it.

It felt good to hear someone say it. Being the only black women at work from my experience has been a tough and hurtful experience. Listening to both women made me feel power again because they told me what to look for and even turn things down that don’t work for you.
