yeah basically the power company has to run the generators to provide power, the more power the more heat, the more heat the more resistance (meaning even more power needed that ends up stressing the electrical grid). So they "incentivize" people to use high amounts of power when the power grid isn't receiving as much traffic. Washer/Dryers use tons of power so you can save money by running them off-peak, which would be something like after 7 or 8pm at night or before 10am. As a teacher I can say that sometimes it’s challenging to not eat out or take an Uber after a 10-14 hour work day, but it is possible. You have to plan your time well on the weekends to set yourself up for the week. It’s also the case that some of these things she/I should be able to afford, but if we are being realistic, it’s not in our budget. As a teacher who works in San Francisco, I make about what she does, my rent is a lot higher. I feel like we deserve to be paid more, so we can afford to eat out every once in awhile and save and buy a home. With that being said, we make what we make, so we have to budget well. Many teachers I know have a lot of student loans. I’m surprised she doesn’t. She’s really in a good position to save. She’s still pretty young, so hopefully she can make some different choices.
