Wow. This might be the most beautiful house I've seen you show so far. I agree with you. It's so cool. It has so many awesome details. That fireplace!! Oh my goodness!! It's amazing. The backyard on the lake, the wood ceilings. It's all very beautiful and a shame it has to be torn down.

Those wood slatted roll up doors that you called "Bread Boxes" were appliance garages ( to hide the blender or toaster etc . . . )

Hello Mr Noah 😃🖐, you found a GREAT one here!! Look at that view, WOW! My dad built my grandparents their home with an attached duplex in which they rented out, and they had a pink refrigerator, pink sink, and a pink built-in double wall oven, I will never forget those. Even in the bathroom, they had a pink bathtub/shower combo and a pink sink.

Amazing Mid-Century beauty. Such a shame that people don’t see the value of saving and restoring as opposed to tearing down, Very frustrating indeed. The kitchen was defo an 80’s redo, the doors and the appliance garages ( bread boxes) are a clue to that era. The appliance garages were designed to tuck away appliances to keep the countertops free of clutter. Very much enjoyed this gem, thanks for capturing if for posterity. 🙌🏼

Ever been to the Edith Farnsworth house in Plano, IL. THATS a testament to modern design. It’s unbelievable how EVERYTHING is perfect, everything down to the air vents that are only noticeable when someone points them out, the grout lines on the floor tiles, everything. No wonder it took 5 years a nearly $1M in todays money to build a one bedroom home.

There can always be a reason to tear something down-if there is someone willing to pay enough money. Sad! What a beautiful home. And the doors on the counter in the kitchen are for appliances. Such a cool idea. And the one area in the range was possibly a vent to take care of the smoke from the grill.

Absolutely stunning MCM property.. and that view!! Breathtaking. Breaks my vintage, mid century loving soul that such an exquisite representation of design will be razed. PS and yes, that kitchen was definitely updated at some point. My guess looking at the cabinetry style is 1980s (probably same time the bay windows were put in), which was a trending feature in the mid-80s. Bathrooms saw a bit of ‘refreshing’, as well, in the 80s Great place! Thank you for sharing 😊

I now understand in this video, compared to Ethan's, that the back bedroom with the weird open bathroom was renovated from original in the 1980's along with the kitchen. Why? Pot lights weren't yet invented in 1958. I believe that open bathroom may have the original shower and toilet location, but the jetted tub was added. It would have had a similar pocket door like the bedrooms. The flimsy pocket door there now for the toilet is from the 80's. Also, all the track lights in the hall and bedrooms would have been added during the renovation in the 1980's. It's a shame that the homeowner at that time did this renovation. They obviously didn't bother to research what a unique house they had and/or didn't care.

an absolute gem of a MCM home! Very nice, calm walk-thru Noah! Commentary was pretty spot-on. Looks like maybe bathrooms were redone. Kitchen looked like a 70's design. The house lacked color & wallpapering more typical of MCM period homes, but possibly done for resale? Still an almost walk in ready home. I cannot believe it is up for demolition.

Hi Noah, I couldn't help but giggle when you said you didn't know what was between the grill and the the stove rings. That's a vent because there is no air vent above the stove so they put it there. You just click a little button and it would suck up any of the fumes from your food and the cupboards look like they were built in the '80s because of that wooden little slat at the bottom. That's just my assumption cuz you'll see a lot of homes that are built in the '80s. Most of them are white. Mind you but yeah they all have that little wooden slat at the bottom of the cupboard. Another thing I found kind of funny is when you called it a mc mansion It's not McDonald's ..lol but I understood what you meant I understand why the house probably is going to be demolished because it's too compartmentalized and most people want everything wide open now. It is different for sure. I've never seen one in Ontario at all. This is the first for me. Just watching it on your channel which I think is pretty cool. This is something that you would see more in Florida. Things like that like The Brady bunch type thing of the same era. Thanks again for the chuckles.😂😂

Hiding in plain sight might be one of the most unusual features of this house: a roof structure composed of 2x lumber laid on edge and spiked together to make a solid wood plane capable of spanning 12 feet or more ? As for the "woven" 45-degree corners to the brickwork, this is in fact the most expedient way to lay standard brick or block, requiring neither angle cutting nor "specials." Several of Wright's hex- or lozenge-plan houses have this detail, including the Hanna and Bazett Usonians in Northern California.

Back when I was growing up, there always seemed to be a room right off the front door. It was always very neat and all the good beautiful furniture sat in there on carpet without any footsteps in it what so ever. That room sat empty a lot! Company never sat in there either. Because they knew it was the "COMPANY ROOM" 😅 as well and didn't want to mess it up either and usually went into the kitten and sat there. Lol The shag carpet was always raked and furniture was always dust, fingerprint free. Alot of the house I've seen on here had bathrooms at the front door, which I thought was weird. If you came in from outside and needed to wash up, we had a sink with some small cupboards to keep towels, medicine, and things. Also, pocket doors were a big thing back then, too. I'm with you about all the beautiful homes that were built to last and fitted to their owners taste. Now days everything is built so fast with no details. Well maybe a amazing staircase. I love my home in the country. My parents took us out of a city to the country. No bathroom in the house. We used a outhouse built in front of a detached garage. And there wasn't any heat in the upstairs where our bedrooms were. We used electric blankets, and waited til spring to see out the frosted windows. OH, and from catholic schools to public in a town of 2 or 3 thousand people. My father basically redid the whole house, stripped the lathe, put up drywall, took out the metal cupboards, and replaced them with wooded ones, put a bathroom and laundry room in, added a huge back porch. I mean redid everything. Never hired anyone to help we did it all ourselves. Well all but put heat in the upstairs. LOL After all of us kids grew up and left home they sold it. 😭😭😭 one of my brothers tried to buy it back but owner didn't want to sell it. I loved everything about it. You younger generations missed the good ole days. Actually I graduated in 81 so I'm not to my death bed yet. Another great place. Thanks

Stunning home! Too bad new owners don't appreciate the architecture, as this could be updated with paint, new floors etc for what it will cost to build a 'McMansion'. New builds appear to be slapped together with crappy products and hideiously boring architecture. You're doing a fabulous job of creating and hopefully preserving 'archeological' records, as that's what you explorers are essentially doing. Keep up the great work. 👍👏

Looked to me like a lot more damage then paint and floors can take care of. That shifting wall that cracked could be a really big problem alone with a new electric system that would not be easy to replace in all that brick and also I seen one room that looked like it had water damage up the wall. Probably cost way more then its worth seeing that is a pretty simple house not really a mansion in todays world. It is sad it has to go, I really love the lay out of it.

They want to obliterate my childhood memories! I often wonder if a few of the City higher ups might be enjoying some significant kickbacks from developers in Ontario. That is the only reason I can come up with that would allow this remarkable architectural work of art to be wiped off the face of the earth. This was an important era, as intellectuals and academics were trying to break from the confining stranglehold of the fifties. Artistic and creative talent was released. Did LSD play a part? Who knows, but it was ironic that the generation coming of age in the sixties wanted a better way to exist. They wanted the very opposite of what the generation prior wanted to hang on to - with a death grip. I saw homes built in this style on television programs like "77 Sunset Strip" and "Surfside 6," and it added ambience and elegance - sophistication, if you will. It's an absolute travesty that developers have a mindset that money is their god and cookie cutter McMansions lacking character and originality, advertising the owner as opulent and pretentious takes priority over unique links to the past. I'm a progressive but I believe that new isn't always better and bigger just indicates that someone is self-absorbed, ostentatious and not one bit aware of the peril our environment is in.

It's so sad they are demolishing this stunningly beautiful midcentury home, really sad. It's one of the neatest that I've seen, and I esp. love all the glass looking out back. It's a shame that updates caused it to not be on the historic record. People now days that have no idea what real midcentury modern design is, just think it's "old and out of date", so they remodel it and ruin the style. You would think that someone would love it, I know I do and seems like you do. Makes you wonder if they ever even put it up for sale to see if someone would buy it. Great video. Sure wish this place could have been saved!!

FYI the bay windows are insensitive modifications that probably went in when the kitchen was renovated in the 80s. The tiles are cork. Cork and parquet wood floors were a common alternative to terrazzo when subfloor was constructed of poured concrete. (It would be interesting to see what was under the w2w carpet.) The high ribbon windows above eye level are called “clerestory windows” and are a trademark feature of many MCM homes. They were valued for letting in light while providing privacy.
