Millions of UK mobile phones receive test of new national alert system

Millions of phones across the UK sounded with a siren on Sunday as part of a test for a new national emergency alert system.
The loud alarm was planned to ring at 3pm on all devices that were using 4G and 5G networks in the UK.

A lot of phones that were set on 3G didn’t receive the signal. 3G is getting switched off next year across all providers, so anybody that has not got a 4 or 5G capable phone, will have to buy a new one.

You would need to have a *very* old phone for it not to be 4G capable. The technology is more than 20 years old at this point.

@@guidosillaste4297 they are stopping the 3G signal as it is out of date now. 4G is fast with 5G even faster. The UK lags way behind other countries in their 5G coverage. The 3G waveband is to be used for other things. Old black and white televisions worked just fine, but would you be happy to go back to those days now colour is standard with HD, 4K and even 8K coming ? 3G has been around in the UK since 2003, time to move to better things.

@@RaRa-eu9mw And it has 100% reliapility compared to the new phones which are used to spy on you. The old ones are only used for phone calls which is their main function. As for why their dropping it has nothing to do whit service and reach being bad it has everything do to whit fact that most apps dont work on older versions and they want you constantly connected. They once tried to send me a link on my old phone ,but the link did not work on old phone ,but the text message got through in fact it got through faster then newer phones. I wonder what more is added whit each message for it to slow down that much..
