Well if you had followed the hurricane, they only knew about 1 or maybe 2 days ahead of time for was to be a category 1< hurricane/ tropical storm that shifted from its expected course toward brownsville, then to victora before finally shifting south of Houston. Category 1 hurricanes normally don’t do that much wind damage. I’ve experienced a catagory 2and 3, and once it hits inland, normally its strength diminishes as it moves in but this one just came with a sudden surge from its north side arm and those winds slammed more inland. It surprised even me. Hurricanes can be unpredictable at times.

Things the City Needs to do before a Hurricane When moving into a disaster area there aren’t hotels or motels with power. 1. Keep an eye on the landfall of the storm 2. Have portable shelters ready to be quickly setup in large parking lots before the linemen show up for work 3. Shelters need to have sleeping quarters, laundry, food and any medical aid. 4. Shelters need to have port-a-potty ready to be moved into place and easy access for cleaning out. 5. Shelters need to have a water supply for a field kitchen, drinking and bathing. 6. Have a recreation area such as a tent for workers to unwind between shifts. 7. Shelters need to have diesel generators to service the different tents. You need to have the generators placed so they can easily be refilled with fuel. 7. Shelters need to have ample trash cans to keep the living quarters as clean as possible. 8. Shelters need to have portable laundry facilities so their cloths can be washed. 10. Communication tents need to be setup to instruct linemen teams on what areas of the town they are to go to and report back after completing their assigned work. These men will be away from home for a long period of time. They are getting paid a lot of money to do their job. The linemen I have seen look very tired and exhausted. When they come in from a shift they know they will have a hot meal, shower, clothes washed and get a good night’s sleep. These mobile tent shelters not need to just one city’s use. They could be placed in a geographical area where they can be quickly trucked into the disaster area ahead of the linemen.
