Hi I just watched a KZbin show on Deep South Homestead and he said you were more meticulous then he (Danny) is. Well that’s a heckuva compliment if you ask me!! I think the work you are doing is very important and I know I’m going to enjoy your videos too! It’s probably kinda funny considering I’m a small town gal living in a big city high in the sky on the 34th & 35th floor in Canada but I am so far disconnected from living the lifestyle that I’m forced to live in because of the closeness of quality healthcare and my disabilities. Mike Morales has been talking about some really active sun spots that can sap your energy going on since about February 4th. I have definitely been a bit low energy for the last little bit, too. I’ve been reading about relationship between volcanic activity and earth quakes to sun activity. Interesting how all of these things are connected. Anyway your work is very precise and skilled. Good to see there are still craftsmen out there. I think we are going to need to revive that in many areas and it will be a very good thing for society if we can.

A real interesting process. The proofs in the grits as you said. Some things are just meant to be done by hand. I see examples in blacksmithing all the time. I like watching you work on these. I find it very cool that the stones of these commercial mills still look and operate pretty much the same as that smaller really old one you dressed on your porch a few months back and even like the ones in that really old mill you hope to restore. These are just surrounded by metal instead of wood. Are they still made from that French stone or is that different on different mills? I’m still smiling because they told you how much longer your hand dressed stones lasted compared to the pneumatically dressed ones. I’m not surprised, there’s something to be said for true craftsmanship. I’m glad they let you know they appreciate your skill!! I think what I’m most impressed with though is that you don’t have red stains on all your clothes from the food coloring!! 😂 Thanks for letting us hang out with you while you worked. I know it felt good for you to get back at it and I hope your energy is all the way back for you soon.

Another great video , glad to see you feeling better , and it does take a while to get your energy back , We had the Delta in August and caught the Omicron in January, so I know how it is I'm still weak but by the Grace of God we will all get back where we need to be it takes time. Justin you’d ask about grains for celiacs, well we also must b careful of the mills. You used red food coloring not celiac friendly. Red dyes are mostly made from red hard wheat. One of the many hidden contamination sources. Elderberry syrup vitamins extra vitamin D. Get a mineral capsule take care. That looks like precise work and takes a lot of focus so add omega 10

Auntym thank you for that info! I have to purge the stones after dressing, they are spinning around 650 Rpm’s with a good bit of corn going through there is NO trace of the food coloring left. I will look for a different color that is better for that reason, thank you! Thank you so much for the recommendations!!!

Very interesting, one day i would like to own a stone flour/grist mill and always wondered how they are dressed. Here in Canada very few smaller size mills for small scale farm exist. So i would have to buy probably new and learn myself how to dress stone so knowledge share by you is precious to me. Thanks for taking the time to share with us.

Sometime if you can it would be nice if you explain how the other things work the separator equipment I mean. Are these machines grading the meal or just collecting it. No, please, comment all that you would like! Yes a lot of the bigger companies do have steel burr mills. They do not render the quality milling that natural stone does. Great question LR!

Well Justin, You know your technique is best, but before you dismiss the air tools used remember it might be the operator of the tools instead of the tools. Maybe it would be benificial to try the air tools to see if it could save you time and effort, and be easier on your body. Your experience and tanacity to do the job right is probably the differance between 200,00Lbs, and 1,000,000 lbs. 😊 Just saying.

I know what you mean Dave but there is minimal control, and you are working with tolerances the thickness of a cigarette paper. I use the pneumatic hammers when roughing out new stones, but not for any finishing. Thanks Dave!

Been out behind a barn for long time the shaft is neer rotted In half on the end that slides out. They have 500$ on it. How difficult is shaft replacement if the casing , stones and parts on the pully end are good.

I use sand. I would feed the machine with thin sand and miller it till the 10 inches stone are smoking and dress it againg. Do you think I doing wrong? I mean I not sure if this way a get a true face. These are corn millers by the way use for corn masa.

Hey Arturo, if it works it works. That is a way to add some life to millstones for grain. I am very interested in a masa mill. Where are you located?

@@metcalfmills5679 I'll try your style and see if I can get better results. I'm going to use a wooded ruler and paint to see the high spots. I'm at México, most miller are corn masa miller around here. We use thin sand and an angle grinder to dress.

do you know of a good company that make's a Quality Granite hand cranked mill i am looking for a Granite hand mill like the MH8 but don:t trust any of these company"s i have bought a mill from online but they never sent my mill i spent 1,200$ they kept telling me it was going to be 8 weeks now my bank wont help me because its been to long. i really want one but know nothing about them i have a 500$ electric mill from amazon it does not make fine flour . any information would be helpful.
