The final comments by the reporter, David Taylor were pretty prophetic... "But they'll all be back next week. At Millwall, as at most football clubs, violence is only one side of the coin, on the other side are good humour, companionship and a sense of belonging - which for these lads would be hard to replace." "Of course measures should be taken to curb the excesses of soccer violence, but if those measures drive the terrace fans out of football, the cure may prove worse than the disease." So true....

I thank "a reverend" who took me to Millwall 1st time in Februray 1997 and he told me "my son you will take over for me because I will die soon and whatever you do with Millwall it will be forgiven later" and since then I follow Millwall in good and bad times. I learnt that Millwall fans are the most honest people, the most loyal supporter and the most respected everywhere they go. I am the only Millwall supporter in Bristol to wear Millwall shirts and many City & Rovers fans in Broadmead and on Gloucester Road having a big mouth learnt it over the years to "give way nicely". I enjoy going into my local cafe Saturdays and taunt Gasheads or Bristol Shitty ...... However I miss Dirty Leeds most

Of course, it's certainly not exclusively British. I'm not even sure that football hooliganism as such was a British invention. However, it certainly did become a blueprint for hooliganism in the rest of Europe. My understanding of the comment above is that Xandy had probably seen lots of positives from the British but was simply pointing out that, on the negative side, the football hooliganism of the seventies and eighties was the most pathetic thing he/she had seen.

This is the thing these lads were never actually that bad. the media liked to frame us all as horrible hooligans Harry, billy and tiny were top lads and seeing them as kids you know they are genuinely nice people you just wouldn’t want to cross them cause as they said they would put a pint glass in your head 😂😂😂

@@MillwallRobest To be honest; these guys like Harry the Dog in this documentary were just typical working class hardcore supporters of their local football club. They're no different to most hardcore & blue collar supporters of West Ham, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Charlton Athletic, Crystal Palace, Leyton Orient, or any other football club in the world. This was just something that they'd made important in their lives because it helped them get by in those lives, and they loved it. At least they didn't become hardcore Christians or politico's instead. This was just a cheap hit piece from the BBC, Harry the Dog and the other blokes were *not* the hooligans in the "bushwhackers" or other firms who were organising anti-social behaviour, the stupid BBC producers were looking at the wrong people. I'm sure Harry the Dog was no pushover & could defend himself if he had to, but I'm also sure that he minded his own business and didn't go looking for trouble.

@@danieleyre8913 well said , even in the doc there were fellow so called hooligans who were moderating the convo when it came to anything obviously silly , around the point where one said " I'll put a fing pint glass over his head ", they didnt all want to be seen as brash and stupid. Most were already grown men not little teenagers. As a Spurs fan i thought the segment at Charlton was ridiculous from the aspect of us running from small numbers , Spurs were total loons and not fazed but thats a small part. Overall it needs preserving as a piece of working class culture from its time. Some of these fellers came across fairly well imo.

What strikes me is even though these lads are young working class people who left school early, they still speak clearly and use the English language properly. Not like today where it seems the youth have their own language
@aidygooner
@aidygooner Жыл бұрын
It's sad how the schools aren't teaching the youths properly anymore and the government underfunding the education sector, probably to prevent the population from expressing themselves properly about how bad the country is run as it's easier to fool and misguide uneducated people than those who were well educated.

That's not his dad, he's some kind of community worker. Your son may have got 10 A*s but has he honestly had a nice stress free childhood? Or constant pressure to please his family with academic results, in competition with his siblings and cousins etc.. These children often suffer from emotional scars as they get older due to stress of it all.
