Chelsea Headhunters are the infamous hooligan group of Cheslea fc, but did you know there were several hooligan firms befoe the headhunters. In this video we look at a story from one of these firms original members as he recollects an incident at Millwall's The Den, when a group of Chelsea hooligans tried to take the Millwall home end of Cold Blow Lane.

Yeah, not quite a suicide mission but I think they wanted to make a point. Even if battered, the very fact that they were in the CBL would sting Millwall and their rep. In the return match, later that season, everyone knew Millwall would have to have a go in The Shed as revenge. They did and Chelsea were waiting for them.

Went in with the cbl with the early lot and got pummelled out of the ground. Hung around outside and met another firm of Chelsea making their way into the ilderton road entrance. This firm looked the business so joined them and held our own for most of the match only to get pummelled out as well. Nightmares ever since.

I was at the bottom of the CBL with a mate when a group of Millwall spotted us. They came racing down the terrace but a copper jumped in front of us and proceeded to get a good kicking. Getting home was a mission but the next day Sunday Mirror the back page was a photo of our saviour getting jumped. Happy days!!

As a Chelsea fan, we had arranged different mobs to arrive in the cbl. Our lot met at the swan pub in Deptford. We got in the cbl to early as the plan was to kick off around 15 min before kick off. Eccles and babs were in there when we arrived. Obviously they got recognised and one idiot sung Chelsea. It then all kicked off we were down near the pitch when that happened and Millwall had more fans in early than we anticipated. The Chelsea at the top got swarmed, no chance! we down the bottom was chased on to the pitch and up to the other end where we were met by another firm of Millwall. Me and my pal went to near the halfway line and kept quiet. Just after the match started Hickys mob come in the cbl bit of a scrap. Then the police surrounding the Chelsea fans till the end of the match, me and my mate sneaked in with Hickys mob. And as the game went on every one melted away.my honest view of that day. Glad to get home in one piece.

Sorry it wasn.t Hickys mob..it was Danny Eccles..who.d been sparked out by Ginger Bob who he worked with thats how Millwall knew they was turning up early the Cold Blow Lot then attacking them with Tiny on show.hence Chelsea getting run out the ground some being slashed...Hicky n co were outside ilderton rd end Babs and his lot arrived and in good numbers it resulted in Chelsea having good numbers by then to many ol bill so just handbags after the game Old Kent Rd was lively to the Elephant where pockets of Millwall coming from East St attacked Chelsea where 3 were stabbed..

Exactly as I remember it, got in the Ilderton Road end around 1.15 and it was even numbers in the CBL. Millwall’s numbers grew as they were coming in from the side until Chelsea were surrounded. Still a few at the back until half time.

Not 100% accurate but as close to the truth as you can get . I was in the first wave as a 17 year old. Without a doubt it was the toughest terrace fight I was ever in. We should never had split our forces in enemy territory. Total respect to Millwall, they just kept coming back at us, it was almost non stop toe to toe that day.

I was there in the CBL that day with a mate, we were 14 years of age and were West Ham fans. Being a local lad we'd been to visit my gran and decided to go to the match out of curiosity. We got in the ground at the Ilderton Road end and in them days you could move around the ground and we ended up in the CBL, this was about 13.45 and Chelsea were in there and it was already kicking off. Chelsea got battered that day having ran on the pitch for safety they tried to get in the Ilderton Rd end and were attacked, hundreds of em. When this failed they went back into the CBL. I remember Gordon Jago the then Millwall manager coming onto the pitch with a loud hailer and calling for calm, he was met with a hail of concrete from his own supporters, I think he resigned shortly after. That day was the worst football violence I had ever seen inside a ground and that's coming from a West Ham fan who went home and away for decades.

I knew a chap recently died i think, he was there from the North Stand. He even told me what started the bad blood between the fans a few years earlier. On this day the mobs were not coordinated and one of the first Chelsea groups chanted prematurely and the fighting started. He said as they were fighting other Chelsea mobs came in and the whole match was running battles all around the ground, Groups chasing others around the ground for the whole time. He was shattered after and saw some Millwall fans he knew and had a drink and a laugh about events. It was funny a few years ago when Chris Packham in his early tv interviews on nature was asked what was the most scary thing he had seen, and he replied Chelsea and Millwall, not the answer the tv hosts were expecting and they quickly changed topic. I think he has said he has a health issue possibly dyslexia and so didn't give the expected answer of a lion or silver back gorilla etc.

As a 16yr old Chelsea Fan at my first trip to Millwall I got there all right but when I just about to go through turn style a policeman gave me a shopping bag to put my CFC Jacket in it and told me to be quiet. I walked to the main Millwall end. Just before kick off CFC stormed Millwall but there was only about a Hundred of them and with that Millwall soon got the upper hand. I am sure there were hundreds of CFC fans in the ground but like me stayed quiet and Cheered all 3 goals Millwall scored. Cold Blow Lane one way in and if you were lucky one way out.

I was there that day. I have to say it was frightening. I'm not really a fighter but somehow ended up in the CBL with a mob of Chelsea. What I can say is that mob did stay until the end of the game surrounded by police. At the final whistle everyone, including me, seemed to melt into the crowd. In the way back to the station I did see some well known Chelsea faces being identified, and chased by, the Millwall mob. I'd be the first to admit I was really happy to get on the train and back to west London.

I was at that game I was 15 yrs old me and my friends use to go home and away matches following Chelsea. We ended up down the other of pitch. We weren't with any firm but we tried to get in the Millwall end. Which was a very bad idea because they knew we weren't Millwall so we ended up walking in to a glass factory and was ordered to get off the property so we had to go back out again. This time we were surrounded by all the Millwalls fan and this black guy ( I think it might have been Tiny I don't know for sure) and he said you're fcuking Chelsea and all us were to scared to answer him, And a voice came out of the crowd of Millwall fans who I knew because he lived in my area and we were friends at primary school and I knew he was part of Millwalls firm. He said "they're ok they're Millwall, I could see they didn't believe him but obviously respected him enough not challenge what he said. They all grudgingly walked away and before I could say hello or thank you, he just said me fcuk off down the other end what the fcuk are doing coming in our end, and he walked away. Scariest game I ever went to other end was just as bad actually. I can honesty say, I witnessed Chelsea fans trying to take the Millwall end it didn't last long and it ended very badly. But hey ho, at least we could say we went there.

I'd just turned 16 when I went that day. I could actually hear the sound of my own blood swirling inside my head I was so on edge. Most frightened at a football match I've ever been and I was over in Mexico for the England vs Argentina game. I'll say one thing for our lot [all three firms], if we'd mobbed up, we'd have had a scrappers chance. I got kicked and punched black and blue in the CBL at that game and I swear it was only due to a massive ob who pulled me out of the swarm that it wasn't a lot worse. Funnily enough, my eldest daughter married a Millwall fan and his dad was in the CBL that day too. We're best of mates now. Even been to each other's london derby away games on occasion.

Ìm sorry, did I hear that right? We killed millwall that night. You are deluded mate. After the game millwall ran Chelsea everywhere. Millwall splintered into different firms looking for Chelsea. I witnessed approximately 200 millwall chasing Chelsea down a side street and ripping wooden gates up to use as weapons. However, this Chelsea firm who were up for it at first bottled it and locked themselves into a pub. I never saw any Chelsea resistance that night from Chelsea. Perhaps there was because I can't be everywhere at once. Does anyone remember when we played Chelsea in a pre season friendly? For a club that can take 7000 to Leeds, isn't it amazing they could only manage to bring 200 south of the river and only 70 made it into the ground, the other 130 slipping away. I think Chelsea were still shaking up by the 76 game. Anyway that's history. Most top boys at both clubs are friends now. We have travelled to Chelsea away games and they have travelled to millwall away games..I won't name names but if you know you know.👍lot of respect for Chelsea.

Find it hard to believe anything that Chelsea say after claiming to have taken Boro's Holgate end when in fact they were escorted into the ground at 2pm and ran across the pitch at 2:15 to an almost empty stand and sprayed CFC on the back wall.

That's bollocks pal, we got there early morning, me and about 10 mates got into the ground because a couple of gates were open(about 11.am), it wasn't spray, it was white paint that the groundsman left on the touchline, we wrote 'cfc north stand' on the back wall of borosilicate end, we then went down to the station and waited until about 2.p.m, there was only about 70 of us and we went in one of the corner turnstiles and walked towards you lot and ran towards yous, you tried coming up the back but couldn't get up the stairs, eventually we got well outnumbered, I got taken to cook hospital with a nasty cut ,taken across the pitch by police, don't make stuff up, like all you northerners do!.

I was 13, travelling from Paddington and had arranged to meet a mate from Finsbury Park to go to the match. We must have met up at Whitechapel on the East London Line and he told me that just before meeting up he'd been punched in the stomach by some fans. Anyway, we carried on the journey to New Cross Gate station and just followed all the other Chelsea supporters. I remember seeing graffiti on the way to the ground saying things like, 'Chelsea turn back now'. We got into the Ilderton Road end and all of a sudden we heard all the Chelsea supporters in the opposite (CBL) end. We saw some fighting in the middle of the CBL in the first half, but most of the action seemed to be in the corner between the Dockside and the CBL where Millwall were trying to get into the CBL. During half time we tried to make our way to the CBL to be with the Chelsea in there and managed to make our way into the Dockside. We were moving along the back of the Dockside in front of a bar and it was really packed with people going to the bar. The second half started and we'd only got about half way along the Dockside. My mate then said that his stomach was hurting from where he'd been punched earlier and said he wanted to go down to where the St. John's Ambulance people were, at the front. We made our way down to them and they took us to a medical room which must have been underneath the CBL end because when we were in there we could hear the Chelsea singing from what seemed to be above us. I don't know if my mate really had stomach pains or was just making it up to get away from it all, but he stayed lying in the medical room for the rest of the game. Even right near the end of the match we could hear the Chelsea in the stand, above us. I can't remember much about leaving other than we didn't have any trouble and I think we may have gone the opposite direction to everyone else and just got a bus out of the area until we were well clear and then made our way home from wherever we were.

When you say all mouth what you're really saying is I've never come across millwall. No one ever comes to millwall unless they're firm handed. Why? Because they know the risk they are taking. If millwall were all mouth then other firms would come without a care in the world. Whoever you support i bet we've turned you over at sometime.
