Partly true and partly false on both accounts..... The HJ 75/HZJ75s both used this box (i'ts actually a H55F transmission) The HZJ78 used the smaller and weaker R151 gearbox. Turbos i.e. HDJ 78 used the excellent H150 transmission which was the manual transmission originally developed for ther 80 series. The H55F is a solid heavy duty transmission originally developed by Hino as a four speed and was fitted to later 40 series and 60 series models. The 5th gear was later added to the rear of the main transmission case. It's strong and was even fitted to turbo models but has a few well known issues. It was discontinued in the wagon landcruisers from the 80 series onwards (no 80 or 100 series ever used this box) but remained in the 70 series up until the end of the 75 series in 1999 although with the improvements as shown here. The replacement 78/79 had either the weaker R151 bolted to the non turbo models as in the HZ J 78/79 or the H150 bolted to the 1hdfte a la the HDJ78/79. I stand to be corrected but I think all petrol powered 75s also recieved the H150 as well. As did the petrol powered 105.
