I love doing this stuff. Most people daydream about other things, I daydream about having a hoist, some Penrite, rags, sprays and time to really give my car the love it needs. There's something therapeutic about ensuring an old Toyota is used how it should be and then cared for. It's a dying tradition.

No need for sealer on the sump plug roothy just change the 20c fiber washer everytime you do an oil change. Bobs your uncle
@jimbojones24574 жыл бұрын
as a mechanic i second that! No sealant. The washer (gasket) is your seal.

Penrite Gear Oil 80W-90 already has the additives required for use in limited-slip diffs, but the heavy duty gear oil (HD Gear Oil 80W-90) has no limited slip additives. 20W-60 is very thick for an engine oil, in QLD I run 15W-40 in the same 12H-T and don't have any wear, even with fuel contamination reducing the oil viscosity substantially.

Hi Roothy , mate I love Milo 2 , we all know your a Toyota man , but I want your opinion of the Nissan G60 series 4wd’s . I remember reading in a 4wd magazine about ten years ago you wrote that when you were a lot younger you drove a Nissan G60 up along the old Telegraph road up In North QLD , you said it pulled like a tractor. I never see G60s on the roads or in 4wd magazines these days , why is that ? I had a 1979 ( the last of this Model) long wheel base G60 I bought of my cousin with only 60,000km on it in 1990 , mate I must have done a good 50,000km trouble free kms going bush , the only problem I had with it was one fan belt let go . It was great on the open road and in rough bush tracks . Are there any still around in the Northern parts of Australia? I regret selling that old Nissan . Cheers 🍻

I want to know what motor maker now says oil filter every 2 changes, ive always been told oil filter is done the same time as new oil by mutiple people including mechanics, seems like a company or 2 wants to make extra dollars on new engines with stupid wording like that. Also with greese is there a way to know when to do it?
@JeremyPetho4 жыл бұрын
Oil filter every 2 changes is common with old diesel engines. The oil is quickly contaminated with soot so it needs to be changed more often (every 5,000km for example) but the filter has a more normal schedule (every 10,000km). The reason they don't just say to do the filter every 5,000km too is because that increases the maintenance cost which is something fleet buyers look at when choosing which cars to buy. In the 80s Land Cruiser manual I have it says to grease every 12,000km under severe conditions and immediately after these components are immersed in mud, water or sand.
@AndyL9404 жыл бұрын
JP Onefourseven I disagree completely.. don’t mean to be rude or anything.. for 10 or 15 dollars why the hell wouldn’t you change the filter with the oil ? The filter holds nearly a litre of dirty old oil .. common sense... grease everything all the time . Every couple of weeks !
@unclebob56864 жыл бұрын
@@AndyL940 I've been a mechanic for 26 years now and i service my cars and motorbike every 5,000kms including the filter. I personally think people & manufacturers who do servicing every 15,000-20,000kms are stupid and will cause more issues. Only thing i disagree with you, is that, some oil filters, for example a Z372 Ryco filter to suit a Pajero, retail at about $56.
@JeremyPetho4 жыл бұрын
@@AndyL940 I change my own filter when I do the oil, I am just giving a reason why the manual says to do the filter every 2nd service.
@billroach23934 жыл бұрын
I have an Amsoil dual bypass filtration system on my Silverado (Duramax 6.6 litre) and I change the main filter and oil every 10,000klm and the bypass filter every 20,000klm. That is FAR more often than what Amsoil recommend. In the past I have done 45,000klm on the same oil, but have changed the filters @ 10,000 and 20,000 respectively AND have sent oil away for sampling. Bypass filtration keeps the soot out of the oil and even after 10,000klm the oil is still fresh looking and has virtually NO contamination of metals etc.

Australian products are nice makes you feel good supporting the aussie companies. Freind always goes on about modern oils with out lubricanting metalic additives resulting in premature engine component failure all for the sake of emissions systems etc, he rebuilds hp engines

BUT, they are a muddie. and that they do very well. best wearing muddies i have had too, i am terrible with rotating my tyres and still got over 70k kms. hope this helps
