Thank you for this series Milo. I've been moving in this direction the last couple of years, but this has seemed to cap things off. The "sit down" and res-square concept has been a great help to me. Since starting to work on this I've been able to really use the ground to create a compound lever effect. Once that backswing is done I have no arm or hand thoughts going on. It's "sit/re-square" and torque, and everything is slotted. This is also helped me transition into a high draw more often (still working on it), coming from a long-time fade with a tendency to tail off. In the last 2 months I've literally added 40 yards to my drive, from 230's typical fade to to 270's, straighter to slight draw. It's a whole new game for me.

Milo, great job! The slight straightening of the right forearm coupled with the squat finally put it all together for me. Everything is prepared to deliver with speed into the ball. I understood that running out of right arm is bad, but I didn’t know that the arm had to lose a bit of flex in transition. Thanks a million!

One of your best. You are the 1st golf instructor to explain that the correct 1st move from the top (widening back & away--(see around 5 mins in) is all you need to take it to impact--so simple! Brilliant!

That was a really good explanation Milo of what many coaches struggle it seems to explain clearly. Scott Cranfield has also said this ' So even if you're a bit out of position at the top the Transition has the ability to pull the club back into a good position (the Slot)'

I was a 3 in my early teens to late twenties then many years of bad instruction got me to the point where I could barley break 90. I was ready to quit the game. I have worked on Milo's concepts for a month and it is such a dramatic difference in power and distance in just a month that I'm back to lower 80's upper seventies in just weeks. I still need work on my transition. I had no lower body due to becoming a hands and arms player over the years. It took me two days to get my hips moving again. Once they did everything began to come into place and quick.

❤️your stuff. Just subscribed to the channel & going thru some your older videos. ❤️ the demos of other sports, totally makes sense & the visual helps. I’m hoping you can clear up a feel for me. When I get to the top of swing I feel like I’ve wound up my lower body by climbing up and back towards to 6:00 o’clock (addressing the ball would be 12:00) my question is on the lean in & squat to left side. I’m wondering if you feel your backside continuing around that clock to get to the lead league in that simple move ? Because I feel myself going back around towards 5:00-4:00 etc to come back around and transfer my weight to the lead league. And when watching you perform that simple part of the transition it looks like your just continuing around to the left side by putting weight transfer to 7-8-9 o’clock to get weight to the lead league. Please advise..

I've watched all of Milo's content multiple times. This video may be his highest mark. I believe here he lays out the secret of the golf swing. I suggest watching and practicing the first six minutes over and over. The right hip rotation around and toward the target during the backswing is what starts the transition. This immediately leads into the sit down move and the bending and rotation of the left knee/leg toward the target. This puts you into that ready to swing position, hips squared and arms back. So very important. Now, you can turn your hips with gusto with the arms relaxed and behind you. The tip at the end of the video is also good, to work the arm farther behind you, but I'm still working on this first part. Anyway, I think Milo has shared some most important golf swing instruction here!

The issue of low/no tension in the hands and wrists is key, I’ve found. As ‘the Hat’ Gregg McHatton says, the wrists don’t swing the club...they allow the club to swing. If the hands and wrists are relaxed the arms and club will follow the path they’re pulled in.

@77bovi3 жыл бұрын
Wondeful stuff ty Milo. Lots to chew on for me. @5:14 When you mention pushing right arm - since u often mention lpw tension arms, could the extention of right elbow comes from the body moving target ward (change of direction)? Knowing that in our downswing the hands trace an ellipse closer to the target vs backswing -with the arms widening - is this then due to our body shift? It would need to shift by more than 2 ball's width wouldnt it?
@MiloLinesGolf3 жыл бұрын
Good questions! The downswing trace being closer to the target is a function of sequence more than a shifting forward of mass although the shifting of mass plays a role. On the backswing at p3 both arms and wrists are generally elongated while at p6 the wrists have full hinge and the trail elbow has only lost a portion of its bend therefore the arc is more forward.
@steveperry13444 жыл бұрын
milo, the last part of the video was a real eye opener when you showed how the 2 golfers and you do it. i never looked at it along those lines, could never really tie the arms and the body move together. now i think i got it, work on it.

Wow, “low tension and sitting down” at the point most of us (me) are getting tense and trying to whip the golf club into the ball as fast as possible. Talk about a reprogramming the brain issue. Hey Milo. The move you’re talking about around 4:50 where you loose some flex in the right elbow and widen the arc behind you is a little difficult for me to wrap my head around. Is this something I need to feel in my swing? Is this how you have a square/neutral face at the top and a stronger face in the downswing? Thanks Pro.😀
@MiloLinesGolf5 жыл бұрын
JD Stubbs you don’t have to think about it as long as you’re not narrowing in transition your good. At the top of the backswing you’ll have around 90 degrees of bend in the trail arm and at impact around 20 degrees so that bend is being lost all the way through impact.

How to activate your muscles or prepare them on backswing/transition with out tightening them is a big secret(Hogan called it live tension!) except every athlete/sportsman does it in other sports a lot easier because its not a static sport like golf.Whether you see golf as a throwing sport or hitting sport will influence the amount of tension, i still cant decide! but as Im more of a thrower sportsman so from halfway down im putting a bit more hitting tension in and its working well (at the mo!)

Milo, in the examples of Jerry Kelly and Matt Wolf, would you say that Matt's club prior to getting shallowed out has more clubhead speed because it has traveled more distance? And, although Wolf does this well, is all that motion generally hard to control and make repeatable, compared to Jerry Kelly's? You could do either, but if you could teach regular people one position at the top, what would it be?

I take this to mean that if you have a bent left arm in the backswing ( as you do) then it is best to start the downswing by getting rid of the bend which directs the club head away from the target at the start of the backswing. But if you have a straight left arm. then you start the down swing by accelerating the LEFT arm. No bend to correct. Comment???

One can get in proper position, and then knowing that the right hip drops back and around and that the left will resquare off of this deeper right hip... clears the left hip. "Firing the hips" at the ball and getting the toe of the club up on the takeaway...the two worst pieces of golf instruction ever delivered. Thanks for your help.

Milo, i have to say I sort of found you by accident when I was watching Eric Cogorno’s videos. I really enjoyed those videos with Eric and I have really become a fan of your videos. Anyways, the whole idea of starting that downswing before finishing the backswing has been a little bit difficult for me. In theory I certainly understand it, but in my actual swing I have trouble timing it properly. So basically I am starting my downswing as soon as my right hip stops going back and starts to come around, correct? Should the start of the downswing while my hands are still going back be happening naturally? For me I really have to think about it right now. With practice hopefully it becomes easier.
@MiloLinesGolf3 жыл бұрын

@cubfan69kmz853 жыл бұрын
Step drills are good. Now I have seen the drill done different ways. Do you have any videos explaining how you do the drill or know of a video that does a good job with the drill?
Milo, sorry to be a pain, but this stuff is fascinating. Working on the squat move, I notice that when I watch my swing on video the squat combined with the focus on rotating that left hip, my back foot is staying on the ground through the hit and only comes up when into my follow through. When I had my old swing thought of driving the right side I would be way up on the right toe before impact. Am I okay with that right heel staying down until after impact?

If you widen the swing arc from the top on the way down as you suggest , you are asking for trouble. Most would say you need to narrow the swing arc on the way down as you rotate by bringing trail elbow closer to your rib Cage. Have no idea of where you are coming from.
@MiloLinesGolf2 жыл бұрын
Gears data shows the trail arm starts straightening almost immediately in transition. The right arm adduction is largely an illusion created by the right lateral thoracic bend.
@timkozlow52585 жыл бұрын
I have one question. When I start my transition do I need to move my arms away at the same time or does this happen automatically? My transition I feel is solid. It's all I work on. I can hit from 7 iron to pitching wedge awesome. Solid and powerful. When I get to the longer clubs I struggle. My driver is not good. I never feel like I have enough room and come into it steep. I either pull them or hit a weak slice. I only hit one out of every 5 straight. I also seem to lose power with my longer clubs. I am only hitting a driver 230 max? I can hit a PW 135. I'm just losing something with the longer clubs. I think I am pulling it down but I'm not sure.
@zachlehman74325 жыл бұрын
For me, I feel like I move my arms away and stay closed to the target to start my transition. I had a similar problem in rotating incorrectly to start the downswing and I would have a lateral movement in my whole body and would get steep. You’ll notice that you’ll start to release the club a lot better and you’ll hit your longer clubs better

No, with Mike’s idea of standing the club up it’s necessary to rotate later in the downswing. I don’t like the idea for most players because our instinct to create speed as athletes is to rotate our body early.

The most important part is impact

Hosoi Archives in the end you’re correct however I haven’t been able to get students to a good impact position consistently without a good transition 🤔

Impact is the most important part.

I won’t argue against that but a solid impact is only made possible by a transition that slots the club and gets force into the ground correctly.

Had any tour player started of with Henry Vardon....or Tommy Morris swing they would have achieved the same success as they did....or better. I can hit ball equally acurate with 4 different swings. Take putting as sample. Notice how you stare at ball 70% of the duration of the whole process?....seeing the ball is not going to get it in the hole. You need to see the ball physically only for 1 second....the second the clubface travel through it. When you drive your car...do you watch your steering wheel or the road. Never stare at ball with any shot......God created man with amazing vision......looking at a grass root or little stone behind ball and looking at THE HOLE.....70% of time is more profitable. Teachers also mistakenly teach statue like posture.....with only shoulders, hips and arms swinging. I dance the ball to were I want it to go. Human body naturally will resist a stillness/statue like stance before you require it to come alive into action. I liked your one hand shot. I also dont ground clubface at ball.....has no purpose....dont do anything thats not going to happen when you swing. That clubhead behind direct behind ball will not go back to that position. Pose is dangerous. Moe Norman knew a lot about the swing

In another video u say the trail arm actually increases angle. Now you say it extends.sooner or later every online coach contradicts himself
@MiloLinesGolf Жыл бұрын
First off this video is from years ago and it doesn’t contradict any of my more recent videos. We must apply outward force so the structure doesn’t break down completely however due to the momentum of the arms and club working up and back as the body begins to drop and unwind we do see some additional folding of the trail arm in the early phases of the downswing before it starts to straighten.

I am unable to follow when golf instructor uses baseball as a example to teach golf....Not everyone plays baseball. I'm one of those unfortunate few

Great info but may suggest that before you film the lesson you sit down and organize the lesson on paper. Teachers call it making a "lesson plan". You seem to "wing it" and tend to wander a little , which reduces the effectiveness of your teaching. Btw, if 2 instructors give "contradictory" information, they can't both be right. They can both be wrong or one can be right, but they can't BOTH be right.

Very little slide at start down. It’s basically an axis tilt/slide. Arms don’t drop. They move three dimensionally : down , out and forward simultaneously. It is indeed an underhand pitch motion when “swinging”. Kelly and Wolf both employ useless moves at start down. They are timing dependant and fraught with potential danger. The club will swing and stay on plane with proper rotation. You do sit but you DO NOT bib. Cheers F

Just enough so you could muster a spit ; good golf is best played dry.

Fred Negus ha ha I’m game when you are straight up. Also check out how much every great players head drops in transition. Most drop between 3 inches and 1foot.

this is why golf is so difficult to learn, how do you synchronize all these movements into a swing that takes less than 1 sec. - too much talking. All these videos do is fill your head full of more stuff to remember. Watch slow-motion videos of golf pros, visual worked for me
