Tampa has avoided disaster after disaster hurricanes for over the past 80+years. If it gets hit (potential direct hit at landfall) with any storm stronger than a high end CAT 2, it could be devastating on so many levels. I grew up there, moved to CO 3 years ago. Getting a direct hit will save Tampa from a catastrophic storm surge. Getting an indirect hit just north of Tampa would be catastrophic, because you would have all those winds pushing the water NE into the bay.

It will probably not direct hit Tampa. Probably between Tampa and Fort Meyers. Max Velocity said it's heading pretty northward. It's going to hit shear before it hits Florida. And that should weaken it a lot.

Evacuations = drama and stress. I have skeedaddled FIVE times from fire here in Butte Co, CA since 2017. Yes, I agree, get out early , if you can to a safe place. If people are lucky, they have family or friends to stay with instead of the public emergency shelters on cots. Yes, hotels are expensive as well as food and fuel, buying supplies you might need when out of home. It’s exhausting cause no one sleeps well when all **** is breaking loss, we are anxious, nervous, emotional and rung out. Sounds like FL Emerg folks have keeping people safe @ shelters down to a science. Our county folks know how to move fast too because we have had so many crisis situations, including the Oroville Dam Spillway fracture in 2017. I just hope to heaven people listen, get to a safe place and stay put. A warm dry safe place to sleep, flushing toilets, water, food, people to help @ shelters, sounds “five star” to me!! Luckily, we have family 60 miles away from here that we can stay with till the all clear to return home bell rings. I count my lucky stars each an every time.

West coast of Floridas string of good luck is over. I know a lot of folks who moved there because the Tampa area has not been hit with a hurricane in about 100 years. Normally hurricanes move from east to west. Who could have predicted one moving from west to east 🤷🏻‍♂️

There have been quite a few hurricanes that have moved west coast to the east coast of Fla and it hasnt been a hundred years. This isnt the first one at all. Oct. 19, 1968 Hurricane Gladys makes landfall just north of Tampa Bay, made landfall near Homosasssa on the west coast of Fla , the storm crossed the state and continued northeastward, passing just east of Cape Hatteras N.C. Oct 20. Hurricane Charley Aug 2004 struck the northern tip of Captiva Island and the southern tip of North Captiva, It continued to the north-northeast, eventually passed thru the Central & Eastern parts of Orlando. It did exit the state over Ormond Beach just north of Daytona Beach. Hurricane Wilma originated in the Caribbean sea, Cat 5 in the Yucatan peninsula. Wilma made landfall in Cape Romano, Fla. Crossed Fla briefly weakened, then reintensified as it reached the Atlantic Ocean. Hurricane Ian Cat 5 Sept 28 2024 originated from the Caribbean Sea, made landfall SW Fla on Cayo Costa Island, after landfall weakned to a tropical storm before it moved into the Atlantic Ocean restrengthened reintensified to become a Hurricane again final landfall in South Carolina Sept 30. Those of us that have survived thru many Hurricanes in Florida never forget any no matter from what direction it originated or exited.
