Testing the M12 hatchet with a 10" bar and chain. Used the Skillsaw SPT1500 chain which is a 56 drive link chain for a 16" bar. Had that chain cut down to 40 drive links to fit the Milwaukee 10"bar. Chain is much smoother but not much faster. I also feel more friction in the cut which may drain the battery faster. Still testing both chains and will update later.

@@edwinmonterroza7426 Absolutely. It’s great for trimming branches and cutting smaller firewood while camping. It’s very small so can keep in truck without taking up too much room. It has cutters on every link. I’ve never seen that before. I recently bought the Makita xcu06 top handle 18volt saw. I really like it blade speed and great for cutting smaller firewood.

I just purchased this saw and wondered if I could have installed a 8 inch bar and chain. Your video helped me and I may try your suggestion of the ten inch. I may look for an 8 inch, it could be a nice fix between the two sizes, 6 and 10. Not to small but easier on the motor. Thx for your video a real credit.

Great video, you can get a custom chain loop made at any Stihl dealership for $10 or $15. I suggest that you try the Stihl Pico Duro chain, as it is carbide tipped and will save you sharpening. Not sure if they make one in Full House, but you’ll be able to get semi-skip for sure.

Nice follow-up to your initial hack video. Thank you for taking the time to do both. I was on the fence about buying this for the Mrs as a pruning solution. But after seeing this 10” bar and blade option, this might make a nice cleanup saw to have around after a hurricane (no big trees around us). Initial searches for the Milwaukee 10” bar blade are not proving fruitful. Being on Hawaii (Big Island), many things are not as accessible from local venders (the preference to support local businesses). Amazon being the probable go to supplier is not showing any viable solutions.

Seems the full house chain does cut faster and smoother. For giggles my buddy and I put the 16" bar from my m18 saw on my hatchet. The hatchet doesn't like it much but if your "conservative" with your pressure it will cut full depth, around 15", with the bigger bar and chain. Might do better with the 6.0 battery.

@HowIDidIt I just picked up the Ryobi 10 inch chainsaw because it was on sale and also because I'll have an 18v if I should ever need it. I swapped out the bar and chain with my M12 and it worked great. The only thing missing is a full house chain, that I can hold off on. The 6 in. was enough to cut up small stuff for the fire in deer camp last week, but the 10 in would have been nice. And, I tagged out on an older fork muley lol.

For sure. This mostly worked but the motor was not happy about it. I own one of these and it never sounds like it’s working that hard. That dry log was asking too much of it. You would definitely fry it out before too long. It’s great for pruning and limbing around your property though. When it’s logging time though, that’s when the full size gas saws come out.

Regardless of ever or every other, there in only one chain I buy now and will not buy another regular chain again. IT IS FOOLISH to buy any other chain. I am buying only carbide chains which yes, actually have carbide teeth. They can go a very long time without sharpening, do not dull easily at all, and cut through everything. People have cut cinderblocks with them and then cut logs like nothing was done to them. You can get them online for all 3 milwaukee tools. For the 16, 10, and 6 inch. The pricing is very respectable. Roughly 50, 35, and 25 respectively.

Hard old seasoned wood is hard to cut unless you have a lot of power like a gas chainsaw. The every other cutting link is to save on the cordless motor from over heating. Cordless saws are light duty only. 3" or less. The greener the better. Otherwise reciprocating saw with a pruning blade works best.
