Just a few weeks ago we first saw this new ‪@MilwaukeeTool‬ M18 FUEL Hatchet 8-inch pruning chainsaw. Finally, we received our own and we didn't waste any time to give it a true test. Still cleaning up after Hurricane Ian, we have plenty of fresh testing material for this battery powered chainsaw. We powered ours with the 6.0 High Output M18 battery. Even after more than 50 cuts in a 4-inch plus log, we still had 3-bars left on the battery. You can get the Milwaukee 3004-20 M18 Hatche for $279 for the bare tool, and it's covered by a 3-year warranty.

Picked up the M18 version after the ice storm we had here in central Texas that destroyed our oak trees here. This unit absolutely made my job easier when I had to cut up branches that measured 2" to about 5". Great tool

Same here. Couldn’t find any chain oil, sold out everywhere. Luckily my neighbor had some. Almost went with the M12 but decided on this one. No regrets after seeing it in action.

Very cool. I almost sprung for the 12v version, glad I didn't. Now I'm thinking for a little more, you can get the top handle. It has much higher chain speed, which means a smoother cutting experience. But it's not apples to apples either. Decisions, decisions...... I guess getting all 3 is the best answer. I just can't justify it to the boss.

Maybe it was just my earbuds or KZbin, but in the video that thing had a painfully loud high pitched whine to it. Was it that loud in real life or was it just the process of recording and uploading that changed the volume?
@jordanalexander615

He over loads the microphone with his voice alot this is quite common. A better or separate recording mic might solve this issue. I know they make a few that are basically a smart microphone. Now the chainsaw screaming is pretty spot on those things have crazy rpm. There's one brand that hits well over a hundred decibels.

Great job as usual, much more powerful than my 12V Milwaukee Hatchet pruning saw. I really like the new 12" & 14" Milwaukee top handle saws. I have a really nice Makita Model# XCU06Z 10" 18V top handle saw but it does not have anywhere near the power that the new Milwaukee top handle saws have. It's built better & faster IMHO but short on the torque dept..😬 They're made for small quick cuts 2" to 3" branches anyways which most ppl IMHO fail to realize. If I'm up 100+ feet in a tree cutting branches or wood 5"+ I'm gonna use a good gas powered saw mainly cuz batreez don't last very long or overheat.🙁
@jrm163
@jrm163 6 ай бұрын
When on a tree, your pruning saw should be used with less pressure, which means less torque! Makita designed XCU06 high speed low torque for that reason.

For any Aussies out there thinking of adding this to their camper trailers, I just cut a 120mm diameter piece of seasoned ironbark absolutely no worries. I can’t give a long term review but out of the box it’s a ripper 👌🏼🇦🇺
@Jeff-rk8hq
@Jeff-rk8hq 5 ай бұрын
I agree it’s def a ripper, I currently run the 2826 14” top handle which is a perfect small chainsaw in my book aside from killing 8ah packs which all 3 (12” & 14” Thandle & the 16” rh all kill battery packs especially the 8s) I have owned the 14” top handle as well as the 2727 16” rear handle which I sold and they’re actually all great saws even the 12v hatchet Is good just not quite as good as the 18v imo the 18v hatchet essentially can eliminate the need to own a chainsaw for 80% of people maintaining less than an acre or two and tbh the thing is going to exceed expectations in almost every situation, I haven’t had the issue of the 3004 killing batteries like the 2826 & 2727 either but regardless ****ONLY USE HO BATTERIES xc6.0 forge 6.0 12.0ah HD and VERIFY THEYRE STILL UNDER WARRANTY!!! ****HEED THIS 1 WARNING IF YOUR USING A MILWAUKEE CHAINSAW it takes 5minutes to check the serial number DOB and you’ll thank me later as I have killed two 8.0ah packs frying the “bms” chip And knocked coulntless others cell banks out of balance and it’s always the middle banks due to the way Milwaukee charge system works IE : as soon as one bank hits 4.1 V. It cuts them all off and shows fully charged even if it isn’t that’s why some packs only charge to 3bars

Been thinking about the M12 version for a while, unfortunately it was very expensive in the UK when launched. I would literally use it for what it's built for, pruning. My hope is that now the M18 is available, the price of the M12 is affordable! Regrettably, we in the UK pay far more than you in the US for pretty much everything!

@Justin-C
@Justin-C Жыл бұрын
Both have their places. The M18 has more power, but it also weighs quite a bit more... which is a pretty big deal if you're going to be climbing trees with this thing, or using it overhead, or just for a lot of cuts period.. Less fatigue with the M12 since it's at least a pound lighter (depending on the battery you use in the M18)

M12's quite a bit lighter (over a pound, depending on what battery you use in the M18).. something to consider if you're planning on using this overhead, in a tree, or any other scenario where you could benefit from a lighter tool.

It makes a big difference. The viscosity of the oil is very sticky which helps it stick to the chain and bar unlike using other oils just gets waisted cause it don’t stick it just gets thrown off used motor is terrible to use but it’s better than nothing I’d say if you run used motor oil you might as well run dish soap

The price is steep especially considering its bigger brother m18 chainsaws can be bought bare tool for sub $250. This tool should fall sub $200 imo but typical Milwaukee fashion they will price gouge us for a few years till it comes down in price. That being said this is a killer saw that may of just changed my mind from buying its bigger brother with the 16" bar. The m12 hatchet looked good but a bit under powered for the job. At this price point i can buy a quik lock pole saw with a battery....having options are good but some make sense over others.

@@aldomedina7999 i use milwaukee tools heavily at work and at home. I use their fuel hacksaw with wood blades currently to thin sapplings and trees 6" or less. It powers through them pretty good and ive abused that tool and its still kickin strong. $150 was a fair price. I dont think theres anything r&d wise over the hacksaw that warrants a sticker twice the price. With a bar and chain $200 seems like a realistic price.
@Justin-C
@Justin-C Жыл бұрын
You're comparing bare & discounted tool-only price to MSRP of a newer tool... that's not exactly fair comparison. Additionally, it's not cheap to shrink technology and make compact tools as capable as these (M12/M18 Hatchets) are. The full size saw probably doesn't cost them all that much more to make. PS: Just ordered the M12 version recently for $160.
@07slowbalt
@07slowbalt Жыл бұрын
@@Justin-C more expensive because its shrunk down ya i dont think so. The sawzall was shrunk to the hacksaw version that is similarly designed and the bare tool is $126 on amazon now. I am not comparing msrp vs tool only models either. Seeing as both sit around the same sticker without a battery. The cost is alot more for the bigger brother. More plastic, bigger motor, bigger esc, bigger bar, bigger chain etc. The cost is way overpriced for this tool no matter how well it performs.
@Justin-C
@Justin-C Жыл бұрын
@@07slowbalt The sawzall/hackzalls are a much, MUCH more commonly bought & used tool, both have been around much longer as well. Economies of scale apply - the R&D costs for M12/M18 Hatchet have to be recouped over far fewer products sold (a bigger part of the potential profit margin). You may think it's overpriced, and perhaps it is for the DIYer/consumer use... but this tool is also targeted more at certain trades e.g. arborists / landscapers - and those kind of tools are often far more expensive than you think they "ought to be" - just look at the M12 PEX tool - it's a $500+ tool, and there's really not much to it.
