Under the black collar there is split retaining ring that holds it together. Use the smallest slotted screwdriver in a micro screwdriver set to easily remove the snap ring then remove the flat washer, spring to get to the ball bearing.

I just pulled the collet and wrapped some string behind it so it would stay in the release position. Then I put a vise grip on the bit as tight as I could. Took a small hammer and tapped the the vice grip. On third tap it came out. Oiled the bit and put it in and out a few times. Probably good idea to put a little oil down the throat. The 3.5 mm ball in there that catches the indent on the bit needs it to move freely. But I liked the video. I like to watch people take things apart and back together again. Thanks.

Dude, thank you so much. I had arranged to go to a local machine shop when I found your video. I got it apart, fixed and back together. I've been screwing with this stuck bit off and on for a few months now. Thanks again

This video helped me also! We have one of these at work but the bit isnt stuck but the bit won't stay in. It still works for now but it gets annoying when you have things on the ground or have a lot at once and the bit keeps falling out

I have a similar issue with my Ryobi impact I had a harbor freight step bit snap off in the chuck and there’s basically nothin sticking out of the chuck to grab onto. My first thought was to drill a tapped hole in in bit shaft then screw a screw into the broken shaft and pull out with pliers however the metal seems to be to hard for any bit I own to drill into it.. very frustrating btw. So I am going to try your process and see if I can get it out.. thanks for taking the time to make the video my man
@tombeals62343 жыл бұрын
Put some vice grips on the part of the chuck that slides out to release the bit. Then tap it on your hand or on a table and eventually the bit will start to work itself loose
@FSCHW3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I tried the vice grips with the same result. Tried flattening the bit with a Dremmel and drilling it out, but the bit was too hard to drill. This will be my next approach

I wanna say thanks for your efforts on this task...gave me the confidence I needed to pop mine apart...i found applying a little bit of heat to the anvil (the bit holder) was enough to relax it's grip on the bit and I drew it out with heavy linesmans pliers...nothing worse than a tool rendered useless and gloating at you every time you're chucking bits up in your drill...lol

Zip tie to keep the collet release open, vise grips on end of stuck bit at a right angle, and with driver in a drill straight down position, strike vise grips with hammer.

My bit got stuck. I pushed the holder in release mode, then hit the bit with a hammer toward inside. It went in, then I pulled it out in release mode easily.

Hey friend, great video, I was not able to see if there was a hole straight THROUGH the chuck though? I have a DeWalt with the same issue, except my bit broke off in the chuck. Thank you for your help.
@TheDurbinCompound4 жыл бұрын
Yes this version had a hole all the way through. I’ve worked on other impacts that did not.

I had the same problem and couldn't get the Philips head bit out with needle nose or regular pliers, vice grips, etc. What worked for me was to grab the end of the bit with a wire cutter/stripper tool. That gripped the bit and pulled it out with ease.

Thanks bud. Wire cutters worked better

The Fedex Aircraft Maintenance Techs in Harrisburg Pa thank you in a big way! We have the same impact that wouldn't release a stuck apex bit after using it on an Airbus A300...I found your video, disassembled our impact gun and removed the stuck bit EXACTLY the way you did! Thanks for posting! Would you happen to have any videos on how to remove a Boeing B757 #2 engine PRSOV Valve? Thanks Again!!

I’m glad the video helped! I’m humbled that you were able to get it done with my video. To answer your question, No I don’t have a video on that! If needed, I sure can show you how to test, troubleshoot, remove, and install anything on the F402-RR-408 Rolls Royce Pegasus Turbofan engine! We can also go over calculating dimensional RPM and performing high power checks, VIGV system checks, and DECU datums. So I’m pretty sure we can get anything done on that B757 engine!! 💪🇺🇸 Thanks for the comment brother!

On another note! I can’t believe you guys use an apex bit in an impact! Those this expand so easily!

This reminds me of the first time I changed the starter on my car. I started to removed several components unnecessarily to get access to the started. When my dad said what I done, he started to laugh!! He said to me, son, you almost removed the whole engine! Lol

Nice video, this happened to me once..inside of taking the whole impact apart, I filed the bit down then used a speed screw to get it out of the chuck..

Ok mines jammed in halfway between the flutes with nothing to grab or tap💩💩💩. What’s a speed screw anyway

Hold the thingy that pulls out all the way extended, place drill with bit faced down, whack the piece that extends with a hammer. Bit falls right out

bout to try your technique, i tried to drill the sheered off tip, with another drill and use an easy out to pull it out. wouldnt work. i guess disassembly is necessary. thanks for the vid.

I had a buddy bring over another Milwaukee impact. His was a different design. I had to drill and drill and then drill some more and use a screwdriver to get the chunks out
@genevaortiz35932 жыл бұрын
I did the same thing just now and I used a hot glue stick melted it on top of the bit and pulled the black lock at the tip up and pulled the dried hot glue stick and it got the bit out with out doing everything you did.

Same tool & problem. Pull release out and hold. Clamp on vice grip. Turn upside down. Tap. Less than 60 sec.

Thanks! This helped me in that now I know taking the drill apart is not for me. I may see if I can send it back to the factory or find a tool repair person who can do what you did.

Iv got the exact same problem with the exact same drill. What iv dont is epoxy glued a screw on to the bit just waiting for it to dry
@ebuzek36484 жыл бұрын
No need to take it apart. take a grinder with a cut off wheel. cut the bit so you have 2 opposing flat sides. even try to taper it inward a little. then grab the bit in the vice and take a punch and hammer or an air hammer. PRESTO!
@JenniferVerdin4 жыл бұрын
Just pull the black collar up and the bit will shoot right out. Lol taking it apart is a little overkill isn't it? I mean unless you really wanna do all that work. 😉
@vi3tchiick3 жыл бұрын
THIS ACTUALLY WORKED!! Ty !!! I was sitting here thinking I have to take this whole thing apart when I’m challenged with this stuff that’s how it got stuck in the first place 🤣

Hey its me again. After I watched your video, i decided to give one more shoot to fix my driver. I noticed mine was too deep, so I said, why not try, anyways if it doesn't throw it in the garbage. so bottom line, I was able to take it out, thanks you.. You showed me how to do it and to have the patient needed for the task.

Whoever has a Gen 3...... you don’t need to take apart the hole drill just the retainer clip and the components on the chuck along with the ball then just knock using vice grips to grip the bit then tap it out

not when it goes all the way in.

Mr. Durbin, thanks for the tutorial. My son buried a bit in my Milwaukee drive yesterday, so I've been looking for a quick fix. I appreciate the effort you put into taking your unit apart and removing the bit. However, take a look at this video and you'll see a much easier method than taking the unit apart that will save you a bunch of time the next time it happens: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqWTnZdqqtpoetU.
