Okay, I had this happen to my Makita impact over two years ago. Tried EVERYTHING to get it out. Magnets, picks, glue a piece on top to pull out and much much more. Today, I have seen the light. Hallelujah! I'm gathering the needed tools and will be performing a Makitaoscopy this weekend. THANK YOU for the timely content. So glad that I subscribed.

I have a Worx Switchdriver, and first month had this problem. Called the company, they sent me out a new one, one month goes by, and the second one gets a bit stuck in it again. Threw them both to the side and went back to my tried and true Makita. Today, I found you and as soon as I get a magnet, I’m going to follow your instructions. Who knows, I might have two Switchdrivers that actually work. But, I’m never buying a Worx tool again…ever. Unless, you give one a good review. Cause I trust you. Thanks.

I have a Ridgid impact driver with the stump of a drill bit stuck in the chuck. I tried a few "logical" ways to fix it including trying to drill it out with a ez-out, tapping it on a hard wood surface, magnets, etc. I searched youtube and there was no hits on Ridgid, saw your thumbnail of three impact drivers and figured one of those must be like mine so I watched and learned. Five minutes after following your instructions I had a working tool again. Thanx for making this video.

Out of all the videos online, this one was the best. I SPENT HOURS watching videos and trying to get my bit out of my impact driver. I did everything this video said to do and it worked. The process took me ALOT LONGER but I did get the bit out and my driver is working as it should. I own a Makita (which I love) but to replace it would have cost $$$$$....thank you....PS. use a magnet tray for sure. The little parts can go flying..Be sure to do this in an area where you will be able to easily find and see tiny parts if dropped. I did end up spraying WD40 on it and letring it sit for a few hrs too. I DID THIS ABOUT 3 TIMES BEFORE i finally got it

Thanks mate 👍. I followed your instructions with my Makita impact driver today. It worked a treat. I still had to grip the bit with a large pliers and tap the pliers with a hammer. But now my Makita is saved. Someone else advised to disassemble on a towel to avoid the ball bearings rolling away- great tip. I would also suggest having a tea towel or something held over the tool as you dismantle it. That will help stop parts springing across the room (it happened to me). Thanks so much.

God bless you, bro! My bit just broke today and I was desperate to get it out! I have a Craftsman CMCF800 which I absolutely love! It's mechanism is similar to the Milwaukee you showed. Disassembly was easy and the bit just popped out, a piece of cake. The first tricky part was assemblying the unit, especially getting to understand where the ball bearing was supposed to stay (that is: in the hole, in the upright position). Once this was figured out, the second tricky part was putting the clip along with the spring and holding everything together (praying that the spring wouldn't spread parts everywhere) was another challenge. But worked out ok. Again: Thank you so much! 😁😁😁😁😁

I saved this video because in several tool and construction Facebook groups I'm in I see posts almost every day from people upset about breaking off bits in their impact. In fact I've already posted this video on Facebook in response to someone who has broken a bit. This isn't necessarily the easiest method but it is the surefire method and that's what counts. Sometimes it's faster to go the surefire method and move on versus spending an hour trying to wiggle a broken bit out.

You are the man!! Thank you for your part in extracting a step drill bit that broke off and was a little rusty on the end which caused it to stick inside that much harder. I was using a ryobi impact which has 3 ball bearings in it. I guess they don't want those bits coming out at all. Now off to give another guy props for putting what little bit of the bit that came out after your instructions, but needed to put the bit in a vise and tap on the impact shaft and it finally broke loose. Thanks again brother. Im subscribing tonight to your channel.

A related tip…if you get a bit that is stuck because it twisted in the collet, there are two things to try. 1. Try using the tool in reverse while holding the bit with pliers, vice, etc. that may get it untwisted enough to remove. If not, try option 2 2. If you can get a solid hold on the bit using a slide hammer attachment, try using a slide hammer to remove it while holding the collet release. You might need a second pair of hands for this. This is why I now own a slide hammer, got a bit stuck in my impact and option 1 didn’t work. Option 2 got it out on the first try.

I tried everything before I saw this video (BIG Mistake). I tried to drill a small hole in the top of the broken bit to try a screw extractor with very little luck except I believe it heated the bit and jammed it more! After disassembling the chuck to the point you showed the bit is STILL JAMMED! BUMMER! I have soaked it with PBS Blaster, WD-40 Talked to it nicely and cursed it for 2 weeks with no Movement! It's a Porter-Cable 20V Mod # PCC641 and I want to know if there are any videos showing the disassembly by splitting the case... which seems to be my last choice. Any help or links would be appreciated! Thanks for your efforts here... I can see that many people have been helped by this video.

Thank you, great information. I have shared on woodworking forums. I was thinking keeping a strong magnet or two nearby to where you are disassembling might snag any runaway ball bearing before it headed off to the abyss never to be seen again. Also if you spread a cloth about 24x24 inches out you'll have a surface that ball bearings will not roll away on.

I was so ready for this to work but I have a cheap bit that has rotated inside the sleeve of my Makita which has locked the ball bearings in place, sticking out so I can't pull the sleeve off. It's a short bit too so impossible to get a grip on it it to try and rotate it back. Gotta find a drill press and drill through it i reckon
