Finally got around to working on the batteries. It did take a little time to make sure that the batteries and leads were connected correctly. The sparks from the spot welder were unnerving, takes a little getting use to. But, I have used this several times and it works great. So far, better than buying a new 3 amp battery and have plenty of batteries and material left to do more units.

I like the breakdown and how you slowly go through the steps. I'm just an amateur, but from everything I've seen so far it seems your nickel strips are too thin. I'm not saying it doesn't work. I'm just trying to help give some caution. The nickel strip is too thin and the welds are weak. These are high output batteries that use a lot of current. I would at least double down on the nickel strip if that gauge is all you have.

I don't think the temp (gear) was high enough on your spot welder.

What is that soldering/welding tool? Did you buy it or make it?

Its a small spot welder. You can find it on ebay, just search electronic spot welder or you could just order a welder like the one form Qianli which is not that expensive and works great.

0.1mm nickel is too thin bro. Looks like the width just 5mm, that means your connection just 0.5mm^ flow 3amp current will hot, higher current will blown the plate.Recommend 0.2 or 0.25mm thick and 10mm width plates for power tool batteries.

Good advice I think. I was concerned and came looking for this comment. Even doubling down wit that thing strip would be a stretch. The welding machine probably isn't powerful enough for thicker strips

Just my luck. The only part I really NEEDED to see was out of frame. Oh well. That's life.

Man I feel that, not on this video specifically, just other situations, and its that one thing you wouldn't expect to be difficult to figure out. Its been 9 months isnce your comment I am sure you found your answer already.

Why were you only getting 2 bars in the tool on a fully charged battery pack?

I dont know why, but after a complete charge it is showing full bars and works great.

Cells weren't balanced before install would be my guess.

I got mine from 16850 battery store. I bought only Samsung batteries in a higher amp rating. But to make shipping cost worth while. I did purchase more than I needed. www.18650batterystore.com/collections/18650-batteries

Great tutorial! I'm curious how necessary the paper gaskets are?

They are a good thing to do when fixing a battery the cylindrical body of the cell is all negative if a bit of the insulation gets exposed it can connect to the positive inadvertently. The little circular tabs are for safety
