Great review…I’ve wanted to purchase a Collins foot for a while. I’ve had the M12 since it came out. I have the M18 barrel grip (my preference) and a Bosch corded. I’m going to get this $15 foot and fully dedicate the M12 to coping. My wife thanks you again for me spending more money on tools. 😂

That’s exactly what I’m doing with mine. I also have a Bosch corded and will get the M18 Barrel Grip at some point… Great minds think alike… and tell her it’s no problem at all, I’m more than happy to do it 😂

Curious… did you have problems with your M12 base moving on you?
@brianhall9019

I actually haven’t, but at the same time can’t remember doing a bunch of repetitive cuts on angle with the M12 over the years. As a side note. The M18 cuts great and the blower feature is terrific to clear site lines. Also nice having the orbital action. I have noticed the barrel getting rather warm to the touch, but I was cutting out a bunch of gingerbread to match 130 year old railings. But the saw never had a thermal cutout. It’s heavy which is great for horizontal cuts, keeps the saw stable. And I’ve never had a problem with the shoe on the M18.

@@brianhall9019 Good to hear on the M18… it’s been on my list if I find a “deal”. The M12 gets a little warm too.

I also hate the Milwaukee base. I actually bought into the dewalt system just for the jigsaw and router. Perhaps Mafell gets it correct when they make the standard base non-beveling.

@@thomasbrown9402 yeah, I can’t think of anytime I wanted to bevel the base

Nice and useful tutorial. Just a thought - maybe taking out that torx screws would be a good idea; without the springy piece of wire vibrations may make them loose.

Appreciate it. I guess that could end up being a possibility with those screws. I’ll have to keep an eye on it. I put it through its paces the last 2 days and I really like this coping foot. I see why so many people like it.

After cutting the 45 with the sliding mitre saw I then set a - 5 degree back cut and cut the straight part of the skirting (baseboard) just leaving the profile to be coped out.

Good tip.. I will do that on bigger trims 👍

When I have to cope 3/4" quarter round, I set up my benchtop drill press with a 1-1/2" forstner bit. I put a wooden fence and sacrificial base under it so the edge of the fence goes right down the middle of the quarter round. Then I tilt the table slightly in whichever direction I need to and it makes a perfect cope really fast. Unfortunately it only works on quarter round but it's great for that.

I bet that does work good. I saw Finish Carpentry TV do something not long ago where he used a forstner bit where I thought, “I would have not thought of that” That’s a good idea. I finished the big base job I started today and this thing just kept getting better. I wish I would have bought this foot awhile ago.

I was leaning towards the M18 barrel grip, but with the battery it's a heavy beast. Based on this video I purchased the M12 Jigsaw and set it up with the Collins foot as my dedicated coper. I used an angle grinder to cut the safety wire piece out. Anyway, I just installed Crown in an entire house and this setup was fantastic. True this jigsaw is underpowered for regular jigging, but for coping it's fine. I'm using a 5.0amp battery and it worked all day without charging. One handed and lighter than the barrel grip works for me. Thank you for the detailed video.

Your welcome. I agree, this saw isn’t stout enough to use for many things… but for coping it works great… IMO. I run mine with a 5.0 HO battery too 👍

That is a very neat little setup. I don't use the M12 range personally, but I do like the look of some of them in terms of size and agility.
@MORGANSMaintenance

Yeah I use them almost exclusively unless I’m doing bigger projects… and most the time I could still use them for those, but I don’t want to use them maxed out for long periods of time.

1:08 and the new 2545-20 FUEL M12 befell grip jigsaw is on its way; supposed to be out in September and will be taking my m18 fuel barrel grip and turning back to stock and making the new m12 the coping saw only, as think would be an easier tool to work with imo, an excited to see an all new m12 fuel barrel grip, the only grip😉, coming out and at decent price point, long as isn’t changed. Cheers

What a great video!...never thought to use the M12 version because I thought it might be underpowered . You showed that to not be the case!..I have it set up on the barrel grip m18 jigsaw which is much heavier. BTW the Bosch blades that most recommend are the T244D...Thanks again!..Paul

Thank you for the Blade suggestion… it was working well with the ones I had on hand, but I figured there was one that would work best. I am new to the coping foot game, but it’s pretty nice 👍

Was wondering..I like that idea so much that I was on eBay looking at those jigsaws and some are missing the base…can the coping foot be installed using just the hardware provided with the foot or do you need to use the Milwaukee bolts?…Thanks again!..Paul
