the best feature is the old style milwaukee logo on the side. that is cool. I think the bosch impact drivers are a better weight to power ratio. The milwaukee has it on that ring and flange on the chuck though

Our company switched from dewalt to Milwaukee and I think that's the best thing they did. Nothing will beat the hydraulic wrench but the Milwaukee battery impact wrench comes close and you don't have to mess with the hoses or have to pull out the gas drill when you have poles to climb. I love the 3 in 1 socket paired with the impact wrench. Keep up the video brother and be safe out there.

This is an amazing tool! As a lineman myself in southern Indiana I have one of these hanging near my tool board in my bucket truck and use it daily! As soon as I used it I removed the hydraulic drill and haven’t looked back has been rained on at least 8times been dropped and beat up and I’ll never go back best tool in awhile

I have recently changed my mind on that myself. Especially with auger bits, not for metal drilling. A lot of manufacturers are making auger bits impact ready. If you have ever drilled wood with a powerful drill and the bit gets a bite it will break your arm. The impact takes that out of the question.

I use impact with my large auger bits. Dangerous having drill on high torque mode that keeps stalling and tries to torque out of your hand. I can drill with one hand with my big 1/2 impact if I brace it right.

We just got one of these, we've been using an earlier model for a few years and this is far superior, It's noticeably lighter and the quick lock feature on the chuck is awesome, no more dropped sockets or bits stuck in the pole because you thought it was locked in the chuck.

Upgraded from an older 18v kit. kzbin.infoUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv I independently chose the drill and impact tool, before I came across the kit.I like the 3 speed impact gun. It seems more powerful than my older one, and it can be set to be really gentle. The drill is more appropriately sized for my use. I used to have a hammer drill, but I did not like that it was so big and it was not a great hammer drill. I rather have a smaller drill like this, and then get a corded hammer drill for the odd case I need that.

The 20v batteries are just marketing wank. The 18v and 20v batteries are the same, 18v is the nominal voltage and 20 is the full charge voltage. They just slap it on there to appear better than the competition. In reality, the voltage of a LiPo battery will rapidly drop from ~20v to the nominal ~18v after being discharged only 20-40%(depends on discharge rate).

There’s no difference in voltage between the “20V” and 18V lithium tool batteries. 18V is the nominal, 20V is what the batteries are at fully charged. DeWALT just uses it for a marketing edge. Side question: you taped the hell out of the DeWALT, which to me says trying to hide brand. (You don’t cover vent holes when you tape to protect it from the environment you work in). We’re you provided anything in exchange for the tool?

Thing about the batteries that are inside these battery packs: they are all notionally 3.7V. 5 of those and you've got 18.5V. But 6 would be 22.2V. Freshly charged and off load they are good for about 4V, so DeWalt and others can claim 20V but it's kinda 'marketing volts'. Similar with '12V' systems: 11.1V notional, 12V freshly charged.

Breakaway torque ≠ tightening torque. There's WAY more torque on those nuts than it takes to break them free.

Just before I retired our whole company San Diego Gas & Electric changed all there different tools out to make them all standard and they went with Milwaukee M18 Fuel over 4 million dollars. They are Awesome too

We have one on every bucket. I much prefer the Milwaukee over the hydro impact since its so convenient not having to fight the hoses. We also have their crimp tools which makes those tight spot squeeze ons easier and safer.

Nice video. And new sub. Broadcast tower hand here, and huge fan of Milwaukee tools. The one key tools are great. Especially the impact wrenches and drivers. With the app on your phone, you can connect to the tool and lock it or unlock it so others can't use it. Report stolen. Change settings and ramp up speeds for each power level. And keep all purchase info etc for warranty issues. Tools really have come a long way. Great videos by the way. Always been into line work, but still climbing tv towers. Stay safe and keep it up. I know this is an old video, however if you didn't know using the High Output batteries, they use 2170 cells vs the 18650's in their regular line (XC) and will deliver more current to the tool and allow it to run both faster and with more torque. Just a little PSA, for the Milwaukee guys if they didn't know.

If you check out some videos about batteries like Milwaukee and dewalt and makita, etc. you’ll find that the ones that say 20v are actually the max voltage and not avg that they run off. When you use a voltage tester on a Milwaukee battery it’s actually like 20.55 volts it’s putting out!

That gun is excellent, I fix High speed electric trains, I use the 1/2” drive M18 fuel “buzz gun” it will do nearly 2000nm that’s close to 1500ft lb in your money, pretty fairly priced too at £300, I like the idea of your gun being able to change from the crazy sockets to the drill bit, (ideal for when your hanging off a pole), I used to be in power generation/ distribution before I went to the trains, so a lot of stuff/procedures you use are the same in Scotland

That is a really nice tool. I like the blue tooth. If it helps to not loose tools and locate on a dark night. That will save money. I have lost drill at a site. Think it was picked up. Never to be seen again. Was not worried to bad because I had beat the drill pretty bad and was time for an upgrade. I always seem to buy spare bits to carry as backup. I use the heck out of IDEAl spring hole saw bits for your drill. They have broken at the most inconvenient time. I would carry a brand new spare of the sockets you have. They are made to last a long time but when they go it really stinks. I had been caught where I could not just get a replacement tool and traveling a lot. Now that I work more locally to my house. I have places that have things more available that break. But nice to have a spare bag to pull them from. I still keep some things on hand but need to replenish some other specialty tools. I switch recently to the 18v Milwaukee drill and destroyed three bitts in one day. Burnt the masonry tip right off. I am sure with the high impact it will eventually break the stem of the socket. Ping is never a good noise. I hope they put the blue tooth on all the tools. Be will worth it to me. I am really not sure about the disable bit. guess could be good for kids if was on site at a house. Also a good app for the CO worker using your tools. So they can learn to use their own. Yep I would do it lol. Helpers seem to help you loose them pretty easily. Always when you have to pick up fast and get somewhere else. Alot easier when things all have a space or bag to go into. It takes practice to keep all your tools for years.

I'm not a lineman, standard Electrician. However I wanted it for using really large holesaws and augers without destroying my wrists when they torque up. Also it's far more useful for changing tires on the truck rather than the 1/4" hex impact or buying a 1/2" square impact alone.

Makita makes a very similar unit : XWT09XVZ with 590 ft.lbs same hanger as the Milwaukee you demonstrate, 3-speed (0-900/0-1,000/0-1,800 RPM & 0-1,800/0-2,000/0-2,200 IPM) provides precise fastening control and comes in with 8.5 lbs roughly with big block 6AH Battery. Us Solar installers do also work with gloves :-). And same apply for everyone who messes around with high voltage I would say :-) let's get cocking some meat :-)

My apprentice has one of this new style. Be careful with them guys. I was drilling holes on a pole and when I was pulling drill out after punching through, the drill pulled off the bit and the drill smacked me in the face and cut my lip. So I use my drill now. Don’t like the idea of the drill pulling off of the bit while pulling out

hadn't used a brace n bit for years...needed to drill 5-6 holes and the next day my oh my....love the battery tools till you need to dedicate one full truck bin for the extra batteries inverters and chargers... this looks like a well thought out unit and I like the bluetooth app...in the past we have seen a bucket tool pouch catch fire going down the road because someone for got to lock the trigger...(most people know the click between the forward and reverse is the trigger lock)...these battery tools are great for climb jobs, underground , and ground work...going to be hard to totally replace the trusty old hydraulic guns in the bucket though. md6-y35 and cutting presses are another great battery tools to have in that special bin as well...

The DeWalt impact is rated at 1200 ft.lbs. counter clockwise and 700 ft.lbs. clockwise; I don’t recall the RPM. It has 3 speed/torque settings which is nice. I do like the quick lock though.

Milwaukee m18 rattle guns are decent for a battery unit, but nothing tops hydraulics. Can blow through a 20kn hardwood pole about five times faster than a milwaukee using a 22mm auger. And far superior breakaway torque for old rusty kingbolts.

I recently started climbing and was just curious, is it normal to take time to get use to the uncomfortable being comfortable? Like trusting your equipment knowing it’ll catch you if you gaff out or something? Is this something that just takes repetition doing? In my head I know it’s good. But i didn’t know if it’s just where it’s a new thing that the body isn’t use to doing yet. Kinda off topic but I wanted to ask someone experienced. Absolutely man! To be perfectly honest, even once to are really used to working off hooks and trusting your gear .. you'll still have bad days once and a while! It's perfectly normal ✌️ There are some people of course that never get over it, and decide the trade isn't quite for them... But give it some time, get used to trusting your gear and don't get in the habit of working with one hand while the other is holding on for dear life!

And we’ve done pole top rescue, transitions and gonna start doing cross arms soon and cut outs etc.. and I catch myself ever once in a while trying to work with one hand but catch myself doing it. And I guess that’s just just getting use to working 40 feet in the air etc.. I know doing it at 10 and 40 is the same it’ll catch you. I just didn’t want to think I was the only one thinking it took time to get use to the new movements and working at those heights!! I absolutely love it though.

Im not a lineman but im an arborist/tree climber so i use alot of the same gear as you guys do. And when i first started it was hell on my hips and my shins and my lower back. And was pretty scary to be standing on what feels like such tiny spikes. But as you develop those muscles associated with climbing, you will gain a sense of comfort because you wont be so uncomfortable/awkward. Also will learn different ways to position yourself that make you feel safer. Working at heights is amazing and an awesome opportunity. Good luck!

Mewackatree certainly have some innovative power tools out there at the moment. Not seen this one over in the UK, but we only need 3/16" to hold everything together over here 😃. Never seen a double sized socket like that before either, how are they when used on old rusty hardware, do they still work or do they just round off the nuts? There are a few references around on t'internet regarding the torque required to undo a nut that has just be tightened, somewhere in the region of 10% to 30%, so you likely tightened that nut up to 155 lbs plus. Great video - keep them coming. 👊 👊

AvE will take the tool apart and highlights where milwaukee might have jumped the fence in cost savings....... wich might lead to a failure mode.... wich is good to know as a possible buyer of this tool..... all tool brands make thier stuff from basicly the same materials.... cost saving measures are usually where the failure mode takes place.... Milwaukee makes a lot of specialized tools that are innovative that the other brands dont offer... personally i use Bosch pro 18v line.... my boss uses milwaukee.......both work great........... quality is about the same.........again....... AvE is very entertaining as highligts where they "cheaped out" in manufacturing................... all this nonsense about 18v and 20v batterys..........its the SAME!!!! 10.8/12v is a 3 cell battery "3.7-4.2v" depending on cell charge state....... 18/20v is a 5 cell battery with 5 x 3,7-4.2v cells..... depending on charge state........ ( yes the 3-12 Ah batteryes have more layers of 5 x "CELL" giving more Ah in runtime.......an so on.................18v / 20v....same thing.... across all brands....

Using this 7/16" impact to auger drill the holes in poles is NIGHT AND DAY to before, using an auger bit on a 1/2' drive hammer drill/driver...Literally NIGHT AND DAY...3 mins per hole vs. less than 30 secs with the 7/16" impact....

The "20v" tools are nominal 18v but all 18v tools hold full charge at 20v so they just call it that.

After further review!! so they make the same tool with 1/2 chuck. The 3 in one is a 1/2 female with adapter to 7/16 hex. why do they not make the Impact gun drill bits with a 1/2 inch receiver?? it would shorten the overall length and make it even more balanced.. Then u can use the 9 piece socket set without adapters. Also there arent bits to fit the various lag bolts, such as square lags which there are many of those out there on older poles South of you Aaron. Do You guys have them north?
