Clint, as a professional woodworker my view of these sanders is as follows: The 1/4 sheet sander is an historic artifact. The random orbit sander has basically replaced it in the woodshop and has the advantage of not leaving orbital swirl marks when run properly. The belt sander has the WRONG sized belt. Most pros have 3 X 21 belt sanders (Historically made by Porter-Cable - back when they made some of the best woodworking tools in the world instead of the garbage SBD produces under that name today.) and this odd 3 X18 belt size would force us to change our belt inventory. Other than that it seems fine.

You could hear the difference when you popped in the 8.0. I’m pretty sure the adjustable handle in the front is to maneuver into tight places i.e corners up against the wall if you’re sanding floors but it could be for your big man hands 🤷🏼. The belt sander looks nice not a tool I use every day and I have a Ridged now so don’t know if I’ll be grabbing that but Thanks for the review!

I've had my Porter cable palm sander and my Porter cable Belt sander for 25 years of hard work as a carpenter. I have serious doubts about any cordless tool lasting even a third that time. But I am rather intrigued by the belt sander simply because of its weight. Milwaukee doesn't make trash tools so I'd imagine this belt sander can tear away the product like a solid porter cable which was the idustry standard for decades.

I have that belt sander on my Black Friday list, along with the track saw. One thing I am super stoked about is that clip to hold the dust chute on; that is the biggest complaint I have on my current orbital sander. Now if only they would make a 13" planer.

You totally missed the opportunity to send the belt sander down the street. We need a short of that. 😂 Seriously, as a woodworker and certified, card carrying Milwauk-i-a fanboy, I’m not touching these 2. I love my cordless tools, but sanding can take literally hours when you’re batching out orders and sanders will go through batteries worse than anything. Big red missed the mark if they were targeting us woodworkers. We need our sanders with cords. They’re going to be hooked up to dust collectors and shop vacs anyway.

I am not sure on the Milwaukee specs but according to Festool, they advertise their cordless sanders as being able to run continuously because they have both a 30 minute runtime and charge time. Also depending on the kit you can use the corded adapter if you want the second cord/hose. The Festool options are probably the way to go for a pro Woodworker anyways. You got the cord for use in the shop but you also got the battery for use on the jobsite.

@@jl9362 It’s a more powerful planer and it’s $179 compared to the Milwaukee’s brushed non-fuel $249 planer. I own a lot of Milwaukee tools but I will not buy something just because it’s red. That just encourages them to overprice mediocre tools. The Dewalt and Mutombo HPT both outperform the Milwaukee It’s $149 tool.

The reason that 2x6 was so expensive is because it's the same size as a 2x12! The guy selling it to you must have known that too because he was asking premium price for it at 84k. It's extremely rare to find those, in fact I've never actually seen one in person myself. 😆 Seriously though, I can see the belt sander being nice on a job site to scribe in cabinets and not have to string a cord through doors and all the way outside. The sheet sander I don't think would be helpful at all. Orbital sanders way out preform them (Makita makes a nice 18v one). I go with a 5" h&l air sander in the shop and the 18v on site.

That’s common on a 3/4 sheet sander. This way you can use regular sheet sandpaper and cut it down to size Hence the name three-quarter sheet. It’s convenient because I use a lot of sheet paper for my hand detail sanding. I’m probably old school but I do keep up with my tools and I can honestly say I don’t think I’ve ever seen a hook and loop three-quarter sheet not saying they don’t exist probably do I’ve just never seen or used one.

Nobody is going to buy the belt sander. Power requirements on them are going to kill the batteries so fast it will make your head spin. Battery powered sanders suck(especially Milwaukee).
