Of course, but the other three members were supporting columns too, each one doing his own things. With any of them missing the Doors wouldn't exists, actually when Jim died the music that followed for the brief period the band still existed before breaking up, while always being beautiful didn't sound Doors at all.
@mrmojorisin96674 жыл бұрын
Youre right, every member had their own kind of magic. After Jim‘s passing The doors just weren’t the doors anymore. The music they brought out was beautiful, but without Jim it was... not as good. He didn’t play an instrument, but his voice and his charismatic appearance made them famous.
@mima854 жыл бұрын
@@mrmojorisin9667 More than "not as good", it was just different, like if it was composed by another band. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, a lot of bands explored new musical styles thru the years, it's a natural evolution. With the Doors, the sad thing is that this change was triggered by the death of their frontman. Who knows how their music would've evolved with Jim still alive.
@mrmojorisin96674 жыл бұрын
Well, the doors were a thing for only 6 years. But in those 6 years they gained enough popularity to be still spoken about today. In my opinion, Jim would have stopped bringing out new music. He was too much into poetry before his death.

I'm always amazed at someone's ability to play a bass pattern with one hand and the lead on the other. When I was young I tried to learn "Heart and Soul" on the keyboard, and messed it up so bad, I guess it scarred me for life. I can't split my brain in two like you have the ability to do. When I try to concentrate on the left, I screw up the right, and vice versa. Awesome playing, my friend. You truly are gifted.
@mima853 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Regarding playing bass and leads together, it's just matter of exercising. Me too I messed up really bad the first times I tried, it's normal. You have to do things gradually, start by learning the parts individually, develop muscle memory so you haven't to concentrate too much to play them, then start to put them together slowly. Play at very slow tempo the first times to figure out how the two parts fit together, then rise gradually the speed. It require a lot of patience and exercise, but in the end you'll be able to play the whole song.

Amazing work doing this. The fact you nailed it note per note proves how proficient you are just like Ray ! I can't imagine how they'd record this in the 60s. Knowing how you'd often only one shot and if you make a mistake you might need to redo the track all over again.
@mima852 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your appreciation :-) Well, indeed editing and multi track recording were possible in the 60ies, it was all done on tape so it wasn't as convenient as it's today with computers and digital audio tools, but it was definitely feasible and it was actually done, so mistakes could be corrected without having to re-record the entire part or even the entire song. Bands could also choose if to record every part one by one singularly or do a one-shot multitrack record while playing together, often choosing the latter for better interplay between band members. They often did also multiple takes, mainly not for mistakes but to choose the best version of their execution. For example, if you search here on KZbin for "riders on the storm alternate version" you'll find a complete alternate take of that song which never made its way to records, but it's definitely worth a listen.

Thank you for your compliments :-) Yes it was actually quite a hard work to get this song together, I had to exercise, exercise, exercise... and exercise again. My CEI is just... a CEI. CEI was itself a manufacturer of electronic organs. Well if you listen carefully (in headphones) you can actually perceive a good difference in sound comparing my organ to a true Vox Continental, but hey, a Connie costs an eye and a kidney (just becuase it was used by Ray... this is very stupid), so I tried my best to emulate the sound with a much cheaper organ, which by the way I restored and modified to approach the Continental's sound.

jeremie r No, I'm sorry. After having done this some years ago for a couple of guys without recieving back even a single thank for my work, I decided to don't do anymore high quality records of the instrumental tracks alone which are in my videos for people on KZbin asking for them. Nothing personal with you, really, but I hope you could understand me. If you want, in this specific case you can take the audio from my video, which is stereo, mute the left channel where is all the original song, and keep just the right channel, where are my instrumental parts alone (just the bass and the organ). The quality will not be so high as a proper recording, but it does the trick for a jam with a band for example. You can do this just for this video as the original song and my playing are completely separated across the stereo field, in my other videos this trick doesn't work as all the parts are mixed together.

Such accuracy. I really enjoyed this, that left hand! As impressive as the lead right if not more so. Well done

I agree that this is a truly impressive bravura performance, but I do have a minor quibble about the bass line: in the basic verse (eg "You know that it would be untrue") the recurrent Manzarek bass line (on the studio recording and the live versions I've heard) is a simple root position broken triad except for the insertion of a single 7th degree of the scale (ie 1, 735,35 in Am, then F#m) rather than the more spread out broken chord mima plays - from memory I think it's 1,857,57 but it might be 1,757,57

I clicked on this video because I was just fooling around with my piano and what have I found? This is amazing. It sounds like being there as this song was being recorded.

I always come back to the doors. I never thought the keyboard would be my favorite instrument but the doors really did open "doors" for me
@mima856 жыл бұрын
For me is the same. Ray Manzarek's work with The Doors is the main reason why I play keyboards. Or at least I try to :-)

Normally I don't comment under videos, but holy crap. That was insane my sir. I myself am trying Riders on the Storm and I struggle with the coordination of my right and left hand during the rain part(s). Can't imagine what it takes to master this song. Bravo!
@mima856 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your appreciation :-) Yes hand coordination can be tricky, the only way to go thru it is try and exercise, exercise, and again exercise.

Thanks :-D Well, in 1'000 years, if we'll be still here as a species, there's absolutely more chance that they'll know what Light My Fire was instead of all the crappy music that's around today, that's for sure ;-)

Hello! Many, many congratulations for your wonderful job! This is one of the most faithful and yet enjoyable organ/bass cover versions of Light My Fire keyboard lines I have heard so far! I read in one of the previous comments and in the video info that this is a CEI Prestige combo organ...seems very close to the sound of a Vox Organ! :)
@mima858 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your appreciation, glad you liked my video :-) Well the CEI organ it's quite a different beast from a Continental, but after some experimentation I managed to get from it a tone that reminds a bit the good old Vox.
