I'm glad I'm not the only one who can never seem to get any art done while travelling! I always bring my sketchbook and paints with me and have big expectations of doing sketches while on holiday but it hardly ever happens! 😅

I bring a sketchbook all the time on trips. I live in a rural place so when I was still in college, I’d bring a small sketchbook with me whenever we’d go to town. Sometimes I’d get the chance to draw but other times we’d be busy moving from place to place before I get the chance. I can’t draw in the car because I get carsick, so that’s usually out of the picture. Even when I’m wasn’t focused on drawing back when I was a student, I’d walk around the college once in a while because it’s in a rural place as well (in fact it’s near where I live currently because I work at the college). Nowadays I bring a sketchbook with me once in a while on short trips but always for longer trips. It’s a habit that I don’t plan on stopping! 😆

This is so inspiring! I recently took my watercolors and an A6 sketchbook so I could paint the beautiful little casita my husband and I rented in Cottonwood Arizona, and I actually did it! I'm usually the type that brings all the stuff then doesn't do any art so that felt so freaking good. And now I have the beautiful memory and the owners of the casita want a print of my painting as well as some of my other work to decorate their rental! Being an artist is such a special way to experience the world and make connections, I do my best to not take my life for granted and this video was a good reminder :)

Years ago I used to take my class of young children to the botanical gardens to sketch the plants. One of the mums told me she'd always believed there wasn't an ounce of creative blood in their family until she saw the beautiful drawings of her little daughter. I loved to hear that. I have been inspired by this video to get out with my own sketchbook that normally lives in the art cupboard!

Actually I was one of these people, too, in the past, who carried their sketchbook along with them, but were afraid to use it, because it all could get messed up. Hey Mimi nice to meet you on this platform! I am an artist , after listening your story and I found we shared a lot in common. Me and my husband also went on a bike trip, and we went all around QLD and TAS, we loved TAS. We camped about 2 years, doing farm works at the time to buy food. And now we finally settled down in QLD and we bought a house. Now I am still working in a farm to pay the house off. But art has always been on my mind. When I was first learning to draw, I took a sketchbook everywhere and I would practice drawing for hours! Now that my skills have improved over the years, I feel more pressure to draw in public and I don't know why!!! My husband recently bought me a travel case for art supplies, so hopefully I get back to it. Also, Yay for libraries! I work at a library and it makes me so happy when I see people studying/working on projects :)

I really liked this video, I enjoyed seeing your surroundings and hope you make more of these. I would definitely agree that the less you draw the more intimidating it gets and your expectations grow. I always take a sketchbook with me and end up doing a few drawings but then give up from the pressure of having to capture some beautifully made travel drawings but i m sure if i would sketch when at home outside more often i would not care as much of the end result but just crave and enjoy doing it all the time oh and, libraries are the best, i love them

☺️💕 This was so lovely to join you! I really want to go to the library now, I wonder how I would go working there for example on video editing. I usually get some sketching done on holiday but never as much as I plan to! In 2019 I went during Inktober which worked really well because I just chose 1 interesting object to draw every day on this big piece of paper (I made it holiday/island themed) and it's great to look back on now with all the memories!

I am really happy that I discovered your channel. Your videos calm the doubts for a while and are very motivating and inspiring to me. I love how you share your thoughts and perspective on the world in these vlog style videos. When it comes to sketchbooks I never use them. I do a few pages and then remember that I simply do not enjoy drawing in sketchbooks. I love drawing digitally and as I have quite limited time, most of the time I decide to use the medium I enjoy more. But who knows, maybe one day I find a topic with which I want to fill a sketchbook :)

I always had that problem of bringing a sketchbook with me on vacation, thinking that I'll do some sketching, but I never do. Not because I don't want to damage my sketchbook or I don't know what to put in it. Its mainly because after a day of vacationing, I'm just SO tired that I don't have the energy to do anything else. I like the idea of going off on a little adventure to a place I haven't been to before and sketching until my heart content! Maybe one day I'll just make a vacation out of that haha!
