This game is looking great so far and it kinda reminds me of "The Mysterious Muramase Castle" which was an NES game that ran on Zelda 1's engine that also emphasized combat and I found that game more fun then Zelda 1.

The movement being a priority just oozes that 90s arcady vibe. Think about it, the action focuses adventure testing skills gives this game a lot of momentum for a top down zelda inspired game (which traditionally isn't that fast pace). I love the separation from the inspiration and merging the other much-welcomed elements of Castlevania. Can you tell I'm not foaming from the mouth with excitement yet? haha MANNNN I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS GEM

Man, Mina is exactly what I attempted to make (massive GBC-style Zelda-style game) from the time I was 18 to the point when I was 25. I've changed my game development choices since but I'm glad to see what seems to be a massive success in this genre. I will gladly buy this game when it comes out. It looks amazing and I will gladly support their effort.

Link's Awakening was one of my first GBC games and one of my favorites, so I was already sold. Seeing the game in action and hearing about the finer details makes me excited for what's to come. I rarely back projects, but this is one I'll gladly be a part of!

Frankly, I love that they're crowdfunding. Like you pointed out, it's basically just pre-ordering considering the reliability of Yacht Club. And while this is definitely a personal opinion, I like that my money is basically going directly to the team. Like I understand GFM is also going to get a cut, but knowing that when I support this team I'm now participating in it's development (even in the most microscopic sense lol) sounds much better than just buying it after the fact, especially since I still get the game in either case.
@moonkey5372 жыл бұрын
Is NOT besically preordering since you can donate without getting the game AND you may not get a game at all. If you preorder and you get no game, you can get your money back, not here.

I was also shocked by the Kickstarter blowback. It's not like every dollar going to Mina means one less dollar to another deserving dev. Hell, I daresay the kind of folks likely to back Mina are the kind of folks who are regularly generous towards retro-themed works like it. Also, Yacht Club ain't Shenmue. Yacht Club's great, but their brand is nowhere near big enough to risk sucking all the air out of a crowdfunding platform.
@moonkey5372 жыл бұрын
Great point!! 100% agree. People that are backing this are mostly fans of the devs (company) or this kinds of games. The blowback, I believe (at least something that I think), is that they MAY not need it. I stongly believe they don't. Company says is to build the comunity, but I believe you can build a community (in fact they have a community) without asking for money.

I'm absolutely a sucker for the Game Boy aesthetic so I was sold right then and there. Definitely looking forward to fast paced action in a style I'm far more nostalgic for than NES or SNES style. My only criticism with the Kickstarter is that I think the physical copy was a bit high.

What would 100% solidify the deal for me buying a physical copy of this game is if they included an artistic case sleeve that looks like an old school 1980's NES or Gameboy game box (like what DOOM 2016 did with their reversable cover art that makes it look like the cover of the old 1990's DOOM box art).

Uhm... Goddammit. I can appreciate the quality that's technically these games, but with that being said... can we step away from the 8-Bit style? Like seriously, this game could've looked like The Minish Cap, but instead it went for the same old 8-bit style that most Indie games used. And yes, obviously there's a lot of Indie games that do go for more sophisticated graphics, but it still feels like most of them do the tired trope of going 8-Bit.
@gillythekid2 жыл бұрын
This is actually different, and the devs explained it in an interview. Going the “GBA” route would have led them to make an SNES looking game, which is very very overdone now. They are trying to replicate a GBC look, not NES, and they’re two very different styles despite both being “8-bit”
@julianx2rl2 жыл бұрын
@@gillythekid - Yes, I see what you're saying, GBC sprites had thicker outlines than NES sprites due to the lower resolution on the screen, and the colors are different. I guess it IS different enough, but wait, 16-Bit its overdone? There's Terraria and Stardew Valley, but other than those I haven't seen a lot of super-popular SNES style games... which means I just have to look 'em up. One Google Later: That didn't take long, apparently there's a game called Hazelnut Bastille coming, and it looks pretty, so I'll be looking forward to that as well.

I'm just disappointed. The overdone "retro" style, digging (yet again... ugh!) just to be faster, the kickstarter which btw, I refuse to let you convince me otherwise because this company yacht club has too much money, even was the first indie to have an amiibo and everything. This is just unacceptable man.
@kntranced7192 жыл бұрын
Gilly isn't trying to convince anyone of anything, he's just stating why he thinks the reason behind the Kickstarter isn't as black and white as some people make it out to be. Yatch Club has stated mutiple times that crowd-funding isn't just a way for them to make money, but to get fans involved in the creation process, allowing them to contribute to stuff they would specifically like to see with things like stretch goals or allowing them to pitch their own ideas for characters, modes, mechanics, etc. It's all optional so why worry so much about it?

@@moonkey537 Maybe but still, game development isn't cheap and from what Yatch Club has stated and shown thus far, Mina is shaping up to be just as big, if not bigger than Shovel Knight in terms of content, they even stated how much they would love to turn Mina into a potential series if all goes well. It's a really ambitious project and everything hinges on this first game so Kickstarter can also be a way of gauging consumer interest. Unlike with Shovel Knight, I'm sure Mina would have come out regardless of how much the Kickstarter raised, but they gotta scale the game according to how many people seemingly want to play since you can pretty much buy it in advance by backing at the lowest teirs.
