I love how everyone expected March to be the one having a blast, but it ended up being Dan Heng living his best life. This patch had him just having a great time, always felt like he was 2 steps away from goofing around instead of playing straight man. 😅

This isn’t the first major work I’ve seen try to use brainrot-style music and memes- hell, Hoyoverse themselves just did that with the newest ZZZ character trailer- but this is easily the cleverest and most insidious use of it I’ve yet encountered. To take the idea of the prototypical brainrot- a simple, meaningless, and insanely catchy song- and play it for horror, tying it to the idea of a memetic virus, creating a song the characters _literally_ cannot get out of their head even as it starts maliciously altering their brain chemistry, is both absolutely terrifying and insanely clever. And the sheer number of players (Mina and myself included) who *immediately* began singing along to it upon exposure gives the song a sort of “the fourth wall will not protect you” quality, making you start to feel as if the virus has reached out of the screen and infected _you,_ the player. Even if this is technically a “filler” patch, this might be my favorite update since 2.2 (and that’s saying something since the Wardance arc was actually surprisingly good itself).

Actually Mina, Fuli is at least 3 for 3 on making hot Memokeepers. Constance, is a rogue Memokeeper. Her faction of Memokeeper are called Cremators, who destroy evidence of memories instead of preserve them and are only willing to preserve memories that they deem worthy, unlike Fuli's devout Memokeepers who record literally everything in the world as equally precious. That's how Constance was able to interfere during the Penacony storyline.

Mr. Reca was one of the highlights of this patch, one of the main reasons I like watching reactions to the story is the opportunity to listen to the EN dub since I play with the JP dub. It's was really funny to hear Mr. Reca in EN because the vibe does feel different in comparison. In EN he's legitimately full on crazy sounding while in JP it's a bit more subtle but really shines in specific moments. VA are so cool, they can give characters seem so different even if the words they're saying is technically the same. Rappa was great in both versions too, genuinely matched up so well with what I thought I would hear from them. I definitely went into this patch not expecting much but after the story I love both Rappa and Mr. Reca so much, hoyo doing hoyo things again tbh. Can't wait for Mr. Reca to be a character in the future. Edit: 2 for 2 for Memokeepers is so accurate, them being so unique is such a fantastic touch but still being focused on memories through separate mediums is my favorite thing.

Gotta admit, when 2.2 came out, I wasn't satisfied with how Robin and Boothill were treated in that patch, or even in Penacony in general. The story from 2.0-2.3 was fantastic and amazing, but Robin and Boothill to a lesser extent were for me the biggest disappointments simply because they played less of a role than I was expecting from them. I'm glad that they got a bigger spotlight here and that we got to see different sides to them. The dynamic between Sunday and Robin is also one that has a lot of potential, and with Sunday coming out next patch, I'm eager to see how these 2 siblings interact once again.
