Everything you said abour Honey & Spice is true. The first 20-25% of the book was a struggle to get through. But once the book got going I quickly fell in love with Kiki and Kai. You're absolutely right, the black british girlies have top tier dialogue. I loved their relationship.

yes!! the beginning of honey & spice felt super hard to get in to for me as well, but once i got past that i was hooked! that book had me liking tropes that i normally dont even like but the way kiki and malakai did got me🥺 super excited for the sequel to come out next year

i think honey and spice is just a lot better as an audiobook!! the dialogue never felt weird to me bcs i heard it read in their accents and it felt a lot more natural that way. it also felt very fast paced so i’m surprised to see that most think the first part was boring

The ending of seven days in June pissed me off so much. I hate that trope where the couple breaks up because one of them needs space but it just makes when they get back together less emotionally impactful because when it’s written, it’s just glossed over. I wouldn’t have a problem if it was earlier in the book so the getting together part is more developed

Finally a review that I can relate to when it comes to the book ‘Honey and Spice.’ It was so hard for me to get into the story for pretty much the same reason you said for the first chunk of the book. I had to audible the rest to get through it but the rest of the book was worth it.

I too, just want to swaddle Bradley he is too precious. Adopting him! HSaUC was so amazing and I adored the audiobook as well! Seven Days in June for me can be summed up as this: beautiful writing, complex characters, but these folks are in a toxic relationship and it is not romantic to me at all. I would definitely try something from Tia Williams again, but anticipating not a conventional romance.

I think I ended up giving Seven Days in June 4 stars as well. I really enjoyed it but the subplot with Tye was just...I feel this was a novel that had more than enough pain for our characters to work through so when that happened with Tye, we were pushing into angst porn territories to me like enough is enough!😭 It was such an unnecessary and violent addition

I'm so glad to find someone else with similar opinions to me on Seven Days in June!! I felt like I should have liked it more than I did because despite loving the story and the characters journey, I just did not believe in them long term. I did not feel that there was enough in their adult relationship to convince me that they were not in a toxic relationship anymore but it felt like everyone just 5 stars loved it which always makes me doubt my opinions lol

The one I've been procrastinating on (for no real reason) is Honey & Spice! Otherwise, your ranking and mine are identical. I did feel like there was too much spice that slowed down the plot in Restore Me, but J.L. Seegers writing is so good! I adored her novella, Again. Absolute perfection!! And Talia just always hits for me. Every time.

I'm also ready for the third act breakup to be a thing of the past. Regarding Honey & Spice, do you recommend pushing through the first 20%? I tried reading the sample and it felt like the author was trying too hard or something. The first interaction with the lead girl and her bestie had me CRINGING! Lol. So is the book worth the push? Is it worth buying?

I feel like the author is definitely trying too hard to be funny and it’s sooo heavy with the slang and references. I think those elements stay as the story progresses but they’re alot less intense and over the top past the 25% mark i think. It did end up being worthwhile in the end though 😂😂 (but i borrowed it from the library so i advocate for that instead of purchasing)
