Haven't played in decades, but stumbled upon your channel and fell down a rabbit hole 😂. Love the way you analyze these games. I sometimes see the "right" moves, but I'm usually surprised. Thanks for the content.

Stockfish suggests a third option for Black at the start of the problem: Re8 immediately in response to Ng4. Now if Nf6 threatening mate, Black has Re2+ followed by Rh2, and now there is no imminent mate. If instead White tries Nh6, Black has a counter in the form of d4, the idea being that if White tries tightening the net with f6, Black plays Nd5 threatening to unravel the mating net by taking the pawn. The Nf6 line probably leads eventually to a win for White since Black's rook is stuck on the h-file until the knight can dislodge White's rook, and in the meantime White's king gets free rein, but as Nelson puts it, the game goes on.

I just had an idea for a chess variation I think I wanna make, but before I go to all the trouble I kinda wanna ask... would anyone play the lawless pawn variation? It's simple, buff the hell outta the pawns. The one or two move function is available the entire game, allow for single moves backwards, and tweak the rules for en passant to be "allow for a capture if a pawn or peice moves through a square controlled by the pawn and stopping adjacent"

This might be cooked. At 6:10 when the black rook moves the white knight has already moved twice. If knight to h6 (from g4) comes AFTER the black rook's move then black gets to move his pawn to allow room for his knight to attack the white pawn when it moves to f6.
@andrek6920
@andrek6920 Жыл бұрын
The issue is white just goes Rg7, black goes Nd7 or Nd5 whichever pawn you moved. And then white goes Rg8+ Rxg8 and Nf7# and black has no time to capture the pawn on f6. At least if I understood correctly what you meant.
@peteneville698
@peteneville698 Жыл бұрын
@@andrek6920 I meant that the position shown at 6:10 has the white knight one move further ahead than it should be. When black moves the rook the white knight should still be on g4.

Hmm, i suck, i wouldve moved knight to g6 check assuming black would jusg take it with the pawn, which i woulx tKe back with mh pawn then their rook woulx come over on the 8 anx thresten my dangerous pawnt hen i could move my rook to h7, which is protectef by thag pawn, checkmate. I would have just ended up losing after they exploited my tunnel vision by kusg simply movinv their king rsther than taking my knight.
