Never understood why hard core fans, which I'm one of, feel a band must stay stuck doing same thing. It's cool to evolve. The Death Magnetic album is underrated. It rocks hard

I agree. I love Death Magnetic. Not a fan of the Load and Re-load albums that much and St. Anger was a bad album IMO. But Death Magnetic was great. I also like most of the tracks on Hardwired. I hear the same thing with Iron Maiden where people only like their first couple albums. But I agree that bands need to evolve to keep their sound fresh. I think part of the issue was the lawsuit years ago between Metallica and Napster which turned off old metal heads. At that time, I think people just didn't want to have to buy an album and wanted to be able to hear individual tracks first to see if they liked what they heard. Of course now you can check out full albums on youtube which didn't exist back then. But I think that lawsuit soured a lot of people on Metallica. But I don't think there stuff was as good as their first 4 albums but they were trying to expand their base. That seemed to alienate some of their older fans. Just my opinion.

Dude, this song was their "Fuck You" to all the people who said they didn't have it anymore, that the fire was gone. This is my favorite Metallica song, & I've been a fan for 20 years. If you want to hear the "new Metallica" those people are usually talking about, listen to the song St Anger, off the same album. A lot of fans never came back after that, which is a shame, as they missed this.

Some puritan/elitist "metalheads" believe it's "anti-mainstream" to hate MetallicA. While this band is actually the real manifestation of anti-mainstream. They do what they feel like, even when their "hardcore" fans cursed them. Most bands wouldn't dare exploring new territory, out of their comfort zone. This is the best Metallica song since And Justice For All to me. The riffs have some fire and the vocals sound edgy and urgent. The pace harkens back to a younger and hungrier Metallica. This song offers much of what makes Metallica great. So many talk shit about Lars but he is a good drummer that plays for the song and doesn’t sound like a typewriter. Some “old school” fans only like the first 3 or four albums because there was a noticeable change in their music, but I believe the change was organic. Why would anyone keep writing the same type of song over and over for 40 years? True artisans tend to evolve over time. Cheers! Try “Murder One” - a tribute to Lemmy. ✌️ 🤘

It’s the last show of the Justice Tour so their in their prime so to speak. I think you’ll like seeing that. A lot of footage of Lars playing from all angles. Familiarity breeds contempt . And I have certainly been guilty of that in the past , but I respect they realised they hit their progressive wall on Justice . And unlike a lot of people think , they were only serving their songs . Sure , they're not the best players , and they are the first to admit that . However James is an amazingly tight player . Listen to Blackened guitar tracks isolated here on KZbin for an one of many examples . I heard things I've been playing wrong for 30 years lol . Most of us can only hope for something similar to his right hand . And Lars , despite popular opinion , has played some very innovative patterns that he gets no respect for . Writing and playing are 2 different things , as most actual musicians know . But live man , they are undeniable . And they will tell you they are a live band . Once again , who the fk doesn't respect that

Here's the issue. This may be a bit long, but important to understand. When people say "New" Metallica way too often they don't grasp that time has marched on. The real issue they have is with 90s-early 00s Metallica. For some after The Black Album and for others including The Black Album. However, it's NOT just Metallica. In the 90s "Metal" was considered dead and obsolete with Grunge and Alternative and even Industrial being in it's place. This is in large part due to most people of the time not knowing anything about Metal other than the Glam Hair Metal scene of the 80s. Metal bands weren't getting the crazy success they had in the 80s and drastically changed their look and sound and more importantly in many cases their spirit for monetary gain and fame in what ended up being a fad long term. The bands who didn't change their look and sound this way and stayed true to themselves attained godlike status forevermore afterward and considered "true" metal for never once compromising their artistic vision. Examples include but are not limited to: Slayer, Danzig, Dio, King Diamond, Overkill. It also allowed the newer or breaking through to the mainstream bands like European bands such as In Flames and At The Gates to change where Metalheads were primarily getting their Metal fix from and American bands like Pantera to become the epitome of Metal itself by flying the flag of going against music trends of the times unlike many of their contemporaries and heroes like Metallica. Metallica's two Load albums were as far away as you could get from Pantera albums like Far Beyond Driven and The Great Southern Trendkill let alone Norwegian black metal bands like Burzum and Immortal. Then everything that came afterward like Amon Amarth and Dragonforce. Then they did an album with a full on Orchestra that in terms of being "Metal" is like what you'd imagine a Metallica album to sound like if it was made my Disney. It just felt sanitized and family friendly. To Metal what America's Funniest Home Videos with Bob Saget was to Comedy. Then Saint Anger with a snare drum you should only hear in the 9th circle of Hell. For many who tolerated Metallica's new direction hoping for something decent St. Anger was just the nail in the coffin and most never looked back. And to be fair with the Metal landscape world wide changing as much as it did they really didn't have a reason to. St. Anger was such a low point it lit a fire under Metallica's ass and really started turning things around with albums like Death Magnetic and Hardwired that has won over many fans who had walked away with killer tracks like this one. However many REFUSE to give it a try from being burned in the past too many times (can you really blame them?) and others who moved on just never heard stuff like this. For the record I actually like The Black Album, most of the two Load Albums, if I'm in the right mood I can listen to the Orchestra album, and like the song Saint Anger despite the god awful snare (and I'm a drummer so it's 10 times more painful for me) but the rest of that album can burn in a fire. I only wrote all that in fairness to those with a problem with Metallica past the 80s to accurately reflect their position and where it's coming from instead of just dismissing them as stupid assholes who don't have arguments and reasons why they have the opinions that they do when that is absolutely not the case. I mean, (I know I'm beating a dead horse here) imagine you're a Metalhead in 2003. You're in a music store, you can only buy ONE album and you see the following new choices: Metallica - St. Anger, King Diamond - The Puppet Master, Stratovarious - Elements pt1, Black Label Society - The Blessed Hellride, Type O Negative - Life is Killing Me, Dimmu Borgir - Death Cult Armageddon, and Opeth - Damnation among others. Are you REALLY walking out of the store with Metallica? People give Metallica haters shit, and I'm not saying it's entirely undeserved, but no one ever looks at the time period and realizes the obvious idea that there were just better choices because Metallica weren't trying to appeal to the Metal crowd but rather the Top 40 radio/mid-late 90s MTV crowd and it showed. That's why there was the backlash that persists to this day.
@Celatra
@Celatra 3 жыл бұрын
i mean, Damnation is not metal at all either so idk what your point is and Stratovarius is power metal, very far from what purists call "true metal"

The point is simple. People had moved on since The Black Album because more talented musicians had come up and metal had branched out into more subgenres. The idea that after 2 Load albums all Metallica had to do was make a heavy album and they'd be the kings of the metal world again was doomed from the start. The fact that they put out a subpar album not just for them but subpar period made it even worse. It's not wrong or being a hater for pointing that out.

@@chaospoet Metallica werent exactly aiming to be the kings of metal after the black album, they had already made so much success they didn't need to do that. plus James has admitted they're average musicians

I just found it annoying that every other comment isn't explaining that. In retrospect, the old new Metallica isn't so bad either-- but this is different. I don't think anyone dislikes it?

I'm a Metallica fan. Period. Old, new, it doesn't matter. In my opinion there are three bands that I could play every song they've ever made back to back and not want to skip a song and they are: Pink Floyd, Tool and Metallica. I think of the people who say new Metallica sucks there are two types. One type are those who are overly nostalgic and can't let go of their youth, thinking everything new is bad without knowing anything about it beforehand. The second type are those who don't really know what they're talking about and they just follow the first type who tend to be the loudest fans and repeat what they hear them saying just to fit in. P.S. I'm not sure if you're shorting the album title or if you don't know but the album is called "Hardwired to Self Destruct".

Fantastic song. I like maybe half the album, (I don’t dislike the other half, but it’s really 6 songs on this that reach out to me), but I love the bridge and the semi lead guitar that sounds like a mega man boss battle

My 2 cents: I've been a fan since 1983 with the first album. Metallica has grown through the years, they have expanded into different styles through the years. A lot of fans did not appreciate that about them. But like them I matured through the years. I have opened myself to different styles of music. Load and Re Load albums were really different but if you truly examine them they were still true Metallica. St Anger was a therapy album. Knowing that should put a perspective on it. Death Magnetic leaned a little more back toward their roots. Hardwired was returning to their roots. IMO all their albums are great in their own right.

Happy Holiday’s guy’s! This album is a HUGE hit..it’s gotta bunch of banger’s that are can’t miss..my girl and I’s personal favorite is “Now that we’re dead”(if there’s one video to do or watch together it’s this one..they made two videos a regular one which is really good and then the best one IMO is with clips from their show in Mexico City) “Spit out the bone” “Hardwired” “Atlas Rise” “Moth into flame” “Here comes revenge”..this album didn’t go to number 1 everywhere by accident guy’s trust me don’t listen to the haters I think you two will love this album..hope everything’s well my friend’s Happy New Year and God Bless🙏🏼🤘🏼

HEHEHE! Funny to see so many comments, all of them from fans that don´t hate the new Metallica. Lovely to watch. Hardwired to Self Destruct is wonderful. My favorites from that one is: Spit out the bone, Halo on Fire, Atlas rise, Moth into flames, Here comes revenge, ManUNkind... Don´t forget Lords of Summer and the cover of When a blind man cries. :)

What? I don't think anybody hates this Metallica. This is fucking awesome. When fans of Metallica say they hate the new stuff, they means Load, Reload, St. Anger and the disaster called Lulu. Most fans will agree that from Death Magnetic and onwards Metallica kicks fucking ass.

This song and that album are awesome, Here Comes Revenge is my favourite song off it. The albums no one likes are Load, Reload (from the 90’s so it sounds more alternative rock) and St. Anger from 2003, when Nu metal was popular and I feel it poorly influenced that album, although there are some good riffs on it, no solos.
