Here to signal boost this right on up the chain. Also learning a lot of cool new effects for my own streams, that retro look is absolutely killer.

@@EposVox Cheers and thank you. Long time fan. Have put many of your techniques into practice, and have now passed on The Secret Sauce to my children (tweens/teens) as well for *their* streaming ambitions.

Since the video doesn't appear even though I'm subscribed, I'll comment here to help the algorithm do what it should be doing by itself.

The way I do it is, my webcam in OBS is actually a Sony DCR-HC15 MiniDV camera connected to a converter like the one at 8:01 which is then connected to one of those camlink clones. I imagine there must be Hi8 and VHS options that can work like that as well, no? It was super cheap and simple to setup. Edit: He talks about this option as well.

hi Epos, thanks for all of your videos and content. Found your channel not so long ago. Could you confirm that the NVIDA encoder from the rtx 4080 is good for doing both streaming whille recording at the same time ? I would like to stream with the twitch restriction ( 1080p ) but record the same gemeplay at the same time in a higher resolution as im playing in 2k wqhd. Is that possible ? So if yes, i would invest in this card. Would love to hear from you. and btw. this OBS plugin is absoiutely sick

I have to be real honest here, i dont freaking get it. The idea of spending hundreds, if not thousands, on mirrorless cameras to get impeccably clean 4K video image quality, just so we can apply a filter to make it look like its running through a VCR composite cable from 1989 just completely defys logic for me. Like buying a Neumann TLM, and then adding distortion to make it sound more "gramaphony"...like...what?!
@EposVox6 ай бұрын
Guess what: that very scenario with the Neumann has been done countless times. It’s just a look, like any other. Perhaps you want a high contrast noir look, or a teal and orange 00s “cinematic” look, or a green horror movie look. It’s just a way to stylize your image and make it your own. Perfectly true to life and clean imagery is boring and not always what you want. But it’s about appropriate time and place. Doing a corporate presentation? Not going to want this. Streaming retro games or old movie reviews? Having the crispest 4k see-every-pore-on-your-face video doesn’t make sense either. Sometimes you need to emulate a gramaphone. Sometimes a cell phone or a Skype call. Sometimes the voice of god. Sometimes an orc, or a child. Different tools and ideas for different jobs and scenes.

I approach the plugins from a live-streaming perspective. I've got "throwback" type redeems on my stream that allow users to "throw it back" to the 80s/90s feel. All of this is done in real-time so my very sharp/modern/futuristic stream can suddenly look like it is on a degraded 80s Tube TV for 30s, then back to normal again.
@bigbuckoramma6 ай бұрын
@@EposVox I think if it is for a temporary use scenario, that's fine. My confusion with it comes from those that see it as a necessity to have "the best", but also be as trendy as possible and heavily degrade the quality to whatever fad is passing. It reminds me a lot of where we were a few years ago with all of the degraded Polaroid filters for Instagram, it became an "artistic direction" rather than an occasional inference of retro chic for the subject matter, and even higher end DSLR's started adopting these digital filters that emulated ruined Polaroids. It was astonishing. It just seems like a lot of wasted money and potential, to aim so high on your gear choices as to brag about them, then set the output quality so low. Seems like a waste. Like Ketchup on Wagu.
@EposVox6 ай бұрын
I mean, gear is a tool. Raw image quality is a very low bar to hit, and not a very interesting one. But the “best” gear allows you the freedom to do whatever you want with it and fully control the process.
@EposVox6 ай бұрын
Someone probably buys the highest end photo camera in your example so they can have high res files for printing, super fast/convenient autofocus, and more dynamic range to control the image, feel good in the hand - all while still ultimately “degrading” the image to fit their style. That’s not an invalid choice. When something is your art, you rarely accept the result that’s given to you out of box. Kinda defeats the point
