The Fairview, TX Planning & Zoning held a meeting on Thursday, May 9th, 2024 to hear public comment regarding the proposed LDS McKinney, TX temple. There is controversy surround the temple because at 213 ft. tall, it far exceeds the current zoning codes in the residential area they are trying to build it in.
During the last month, the LDS church had sent out letters to members in the area encouraging them to email city officials to show support for the temple. They were told to emphasize that the height of the temple steeple was the most important part of their religious worship in the temple.
This is a legal workaround to claim religious exemption because the steeple height is integral to the LDS right to worship. The height of the temple steeple has never been known as a central focus of LDS religious worship. This clip for the Fairview community meeting shows all of this in action! And I just have to say, "Don't mess with Texas!"

She does not even realize she is lying. Steeple height is irrelevant to JC. So just because you feel JC tells you to want something, it is okay to threaten others until you get your way?

That is the fattest line of BS I have ever heard. The leadership has no problem making their followers sound and look like fools. I hope someone took a picture of the Meridian temple, or the Hawaii temple, or the Paris temple or a few others--no spires.

This isn’t BS it’s next level hog effluent. If the height of the steeple makes the temple more valid then I want a refund or a do over since there were no steeples on the temples I went through or got married in. Wow just wow!!

The spire height must mean more to Utah and Idaho Mormons than outside of those areas - The members I know were never taught that the spire height had ANYTHING to do with the faith - I, was a member missionary out in the mission field of life - most of the people I know have never met a Mormon -

The Laie Hawaii Temple (built in 1913), the Cardston Alberta Temple (built in 1923), and the Mesa Temple (built in 1927) do not have steeples. Architecturally and artistically, I think they are the most beautiful of all the LDS Temples. I was in Utah in March for the first time in 16 years, and I was astounded by the utter UGLINESS of the huge white blocks with steeples that one could see every mile or so while driving along the freeway from Salt Lake to Provo. They are as soulless as the buildings erected throughout Germany by the Third Riech in the 1930s. My opinion: the spires on current LDS Temples are like the Golden Arches that use to grace every McDonalds drive-in. They're nothing more than a corporate logo. And in 40 to 50 years, the LDS Church will come through and "renovate" these God-awful, ugly white blocks so that they look like whatever design their corporate architects think will make them more appealing to the masses at that time. These 90-year-old men and the PR machine they operate (or does the PR machine operate them?) have DESTROYED the greatest work of art created by the Mormon pioneers--the Salt Lake Temple, and they are now dropping the sectarian equivalent of giant McDonald drive-ins across the national landscape. THEY'RE NOT BUILDING TEMPLES TO GOD. THEY'RE ERECTING 3D, GLOW-IN-THE-DARK ADVERTISING.

I hope to shout the city council's read the text Fr m the pod casts. Even the members are upset at the lds gaslighting that has been presented at the meetings. In my opinion, the church is wrong and should no longer build their temples or churches in neighborhoods. I just built a house in the neighborhood and i had to go by the covenants which they imposed upon me. I could not fight or manipulate the code. Now why in the world can't the LDS church just obey the law?

I grew up in very active LDS family, but I never remember such beliefs. I have since resigned my membership, in part because of the "fluctuating" Mormon beliefs, as well as the treatment of the LGBTQ community, and the lies about the unbelievable amount of money horded in the Ensign Peak Investment arm of the church.

Unfortunately members are taught to believe and then comply, without exercising cognitive thinking. Their world is big to them, if there are 17 million members that works out to less than a 1/4 of one percent of the nearly 8 billion people living in this planet. So 99.9975% of the earth’s inhabitants could care less about the temple, what goes on there or how tall the spire is. The TBMs soldier on in all their righteous endeavours and the world continues to turn in spite of mine or anyone else’s influence.
