"To try to avoid it." You mean, prevent it. Well, you need to realize that eventually that land will be sold and developed. She clearly has no idea how much traffic a temple produces. If you don't get a temple, you'll get a shopping center probably. That would be worse.

Ok, I sat at the lot for about two hours today after conference. They have a legit case against it. I see how it WILL affect traffic and how it WILL affect the lighting in the area. But lighting only will affect them if the temple is lit up during all dark hours, which it’s not. We’ll see what happens. I wish they could build it in the southwest somewhere, but I’m sure land is harder to come by and much more expensive.

The irony is that in 2019 the developer who later sold this lot to the Church had tried to develop homes on it, but his application was shut down by the same neighborhood group that is now opposed to this. Ultimately you have no right to control what someone else builds on property you don’t own, so if you’re going to try to block development, . . . be careful what you wish for.

This is not the first time the Church has run into opposition with building a temple. Boston, Hartford and if I´m not mistaken Paris all received opposition similar to this. In Boston, the Church built the temple without the steeple. After 2-3 years the citizens saw what the temple did for their area and allowed the steeple to go up. It´s an inspiring structure. I understand these people´s concerns. I would encourage them to spend 5 minutes looking into what happened in Boston.

I just sat at the temple site after conference today, I spent about two hours there, hoping actually to prove them wrong. Well, legitimate lightning and traffic concerns exist. Yes, there are those who are against it simply for their hatred of anything LDS or religious, but there’s a strong case that traffic will be much worse for those on the one mile stretch of road getting from Lone Mountain to Hickman. Lightning is a minor issue, the temples usually dim after 10 or 11 pm.

On one side, I think it's really crazy that so many church members can so easily disregard a whole community they don't even live in, have never visited or experienced. 'They'll love it they just don't know it' 'there concerns are silly' like, what? One the other hand, there are many people who are saying and even creating petitions saying they don't want a temple built anywhere at all, no matter the location in the valley. So this neighborhood says 'please build somewhere else' but other areas are saying the same thing 'no we don't want you either' So what's the compromise? How does this get worked out? I do think the concerns with the current location are valid though. I don't know the answer but it's just a really complicated situation.

How does it bless families and communities of non members?
@JoeMeservy
@JoeMeservy 2 ай бұрын
@@Tiny-Cabin, there are a myriad of ways. Among them, they create centers of peace in communities that call community members to a remembrance of covenants they made to be better people-people with integrity and charity, people who also sacrifice time, talents, and means for the greater good and the help heal and strengthen others. Everything done in temples focuses on Jesus Christ, and inevitably that focus brings goodness. Temples are also typically built to high quality standards and maintained in perpetuity. Their surrounding landscaping is likewise carefully maintained, and so they tend to increase surrounding property values. Non-members are invited to visit and reverently walk temple grounds during operating hours and experience the peaceful spirit there. Some temples, including the Las Vegas Temple also allow non-members to enter the lobby/atrium and experience the clean, peaceful beauty and spirit of inside of the temple there. But, all people of all walks of life are invited to prepare themselves to visit other areas of the temple, by following a path that begins with meeting with missionaries and preparing to make covenants such as baptism.

We cannot blame them, they do not share the same faith we have. They have their own preferences and we cannot simply take it from them. However, it won't hurt them when the temple is built in their area. If their only problem is the scenic view of the Lone Mountain, then the temple adds up to it. The Church will take down the Lone Mountain, it is by revelation upon the minds of the prophet to where the exact location of the temple would be built. Sometimes, these people have to feel it.

It’s more likely that many members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints already live in subdivisions near and around the temple site. We’re 180,000 members in Las Vegas, nearly 10% of the Las Vegas population. Trust me, we’re already out there. The temple will be beautiful and it won’t bother you as much as you fear it will. I hope you all make it to the open house in 3-5 years when it’s finished being built. That’s if the country still exists then. ;) Edit: After sitting at the lot for about two hours today (honestly I thought it was in a different spot when I commented earlier) I think the people have a legitimate concern. Lighting will be an issue but the temple isn’t lit up all night, so this is a minor issue, doesn’t sway me much. The main issue and one I could be swayed to agree with, is going to be the one mile stretch of road from Lone Mountain Rd to Hickman. That land will be used either way, I advise people to take the temple. Edit: I just visited the proposed site today, I thought it was on another part over there before I found the actual site. Traffic is the only real concern that I think could present a problem, I sat there for about two hours and saw maybe 7-11 cars drive by during what should have been busy traffic for any place in town. @@dcarts5616 Conservativism is also fanaticism. It isn't one sided. The f-ing Plymouth pioneers (and John Smith and Brigham Young) were fanatics too. Look it up.

These gawdy disgusting buildings ruin natural landscapes. So sick!! What is so sick is because it’s a private club and you can’t even go inside it!!!

Why would you want to go inside if it's so gawdy and disgusting? Or are you just a bitter and hateful little beaver?

He’s right. Unless you are a part of the church and have been deemed in “good standing” of the church will you be granted access into any Mormon temple. They’ve got some creepy things in there like an indoor pool of elephant statues. Not sure the relevance but it’s strange. Seems very culty

Can anything look like a middle finger to a community by blocking a view of a beautiful area with a tall building and not allowing the public in? I’ve seen more beautiful and historical churches in Mexico that allow everybody in. Wake up people!

It’s not going to block even 1% of the view of that mountain. What about the city building it’s one thousandth casino, hotel, or strip club? No problem with that?
