I am a Canadian who has lived here in Australia since 2013 and the only place I know (I've tried many places) that does 'that stir-fry wok taste' like Canada Asian take out/eat in does. Australian's have a funny saying what take-out is: Silly 'Take- Away' saying. Australian's have no idea what is "true wok' is. They think they do, but they don't. No other take out does tastes like this in Sydney. It is on the 2nd floor Hornsby Mall and its the the Asian stir-fry the very center in the sit down area, and right directly across from KFC. So for any North American's coming to Hornsby for a day visit when you come off the train and to walk out of the turnstyles, turn left, and then to walk down to the outside mall (where you see numerous shops - eg: 'Chemist' meaning Pharmacy, etc) and pass the water-themed clock with a water fall) and you see 2 doors: one to your right and left of the mall. Choose left. Come to the escalators, go up to the 2nd floor where the food court is, look to your left past the Juice Stand, where you will see McDonald's and KFC is, and it is that Asian stir-fry place among the seating.

I actually work around the corner from Railway Square so I'm going to try a couple of these, maybe the lamb wrap and the bao burger. I've walked past there many times. I had a banh-mi yesterday for $8 from another place down the street and it was okay, but it was lacking the soy sauce flavour. The best Banh-mi is out in the suburbs. Spice Alley restaurants are pretty good taste wise for most places, but I found the portion sizes for the price could've been better. I've been watching you guys for many years. Yes it is. More expensive than it was 5 or even 10 years ago. But the way I was looking at it, is the US dollar (that's where I am) is worth 50 cents more than the Australian Dollar. The bin chickens are free, but I do not recommend eating them. Glad to see you in town, wish I had bumped into you guys. Food is expensive here, but is more to do with the wages of staff, and maybe rents. Unlike the US, we really do not do tipping because our MINIMUM wage is $23.23 per hour. Most places pay more to attract staff, $25-$26 per hour is more likely. We also have penalty rates for those working after certain hours, and weekends. Public Holidays are paid at double-time. Obviously this impacts the price you pay. Marrickville Pork Roll is the best Banh Mi in Sydney for sure. There's really two that people argue about, but glad to see you are joining me as #teammarrickville The Lamb & Harissa Snag Roll is also my favourite at BSB. It's harder to get good sausage rolls as bakeries are allowed to use less meat than they used to and use TVP as a filler. Bourke Street has 'more killer, less filler' There are so many places that you can go that are still cheap. A $10 budget is very much on the low side for a meal now unfortunately, but you can get certain items under $10. Pre-COVID it was certainly cheaper. A full 'meal' at most places will be more in the $16-$22 range.
@nigl28079 ай бұрын
Marrickville banh mi has been recommended by a lot of people (yet to try it.. but Bay Ngo in Bankstown is pretty good imho as well.).BSB Newtown disappointed me to be honest. Still looking around for great sausage rolls and pie. Apparently Vietnamese bakeries are generally good for those as well.
