Geoff had to shave parts of his face in order of what beard was applied, so he had to sing / film the individual parts / dwarfs in a specific order, since he wanted them to be on screen in pairs, excluding Gimli in the middle that is, so the pairing together determined the order of production, shaving, filming and so forth. Absolutely insane.
@09Creeperboy2 ай бұрын
I’m fairly certain all of the beards are cosmetic. The Geoff 4th from the left is the most like him normally, and has no beard. Geoff does not grow a beard.
@grandnagus58512 ай бұрын
@@09Creeperboy Geoff grew about a weeks worth of facial hair, as you can see in the 'beardless' Geoff, that is why that one had to be filmed first, since the others would only work, like i said, with parts of that growth shaved off at specific selective points and times.

There is such a reverence in this song, it feels so gentle to me. Thanks for the video, have a wonderful week.

What really grabs me is how solemnly Geoff treats the line about the kings in Nargothrond and Gondolin having passed away. It's absolutely perfect. Those were Elven kingdoms, a race that the Dwarves didn't always get along with; but there were times when they'd forged legendary friendships, and there's a callback later in the books to Gimli singing this song in Moria that highlights that just beautifully, that I hadn't caught in many re-reads until I saw this video. It just brings tears to my eyes how Tolkien wove his history and the relationships between his characters, and Geoff and Kathy (and company) pay such gorgeous tribute to it here.

I keep coming back to watch your reaction of this...I love your appreciation of his greatness! This whole thing is smooth as butter. His tone in each range is so rounded and beautiful. I keep trying to listen to other bass groups but I am always left wanting Geoff's voice because no one else has such a beautiful tone! He has spoiled me for other bass singers. Literally, no one else compares in any of the ranges he uses in these productions where he sings multiple parts. Apart from his brilliance as an arranger (and he is *genuinely brilliant* ) he is brilliant in his performances and in each one he, mind-bendingly, finds ways to improve! I just can't even grok! (And if you get my use of grok, you're as big a nerd as I am! LOL) Kudos to his whole brilliant team, too!
