I have been waiting for someone to properly review this E-Steer since it was announced! So a big thank you.... Once blades are active, do they continue to work once you put it into reverse? My last Ryobi ride on could, but I had to press a separate button down before putting it into reverse or else the blade would stop spinning.
@Kitearmy Жыл бұрын
Yep - they keep spinning - that's strange that the ryobi does that

@@Kitearmy - my previous gas ride on mower was the same re the need to press a button while trying to reverse when blades were active. There’s a name for this action, just can’t recall it. I didn’t see this button on the E-Steer, so great news there!

I bought an ego zero turn for $3,200 on Craiglist last year that was used twice. Well worth the money. Used to take me 35 minutes on my push mower now takes me 7 minutes. Almost half an hour savings every time I cut. My time is valuable to spend NOT cutting grass.

I presently mow 5 acres with a GrassHopper. In the near future I will be moving to a smaller home with a smaller yard and at that time will want an Ego Rider to match the rest of my Ego equipment. I have one question. On the GrassHopper, when making a 180 degree turn I can put 1 wheel in reverse and 1 wheel forward which eliminates scrubbing the grass and creating bald spots in the lawn. I noticed when you make a 180 on the Ego, it appears the inside wheel on the turn is stopped. Does this create any problems on your turf?
@Kitearmy Жыл бұрын
I'm sort of an aggressive driver so if you spin to fast you certainly can remove some turf. If you notice they actually spin one of the wheels in reverse

Are we not supposed to notice that large patch of grass it ripped out of your yard @ 6:04? At least with the stick controls you can 1/4 turn, reverse, 1/4 turn again to eliminate the grass being ripped out with the stationary tire at the pivoting wheel. This maneuver would be much more awkward with the e-steer.

Thanks for the review! Seems like there's a small lag in the steering? And, does the parking brake also serve as a regular brake (I have some steep inclines with a gully at the bottom). And, and... none of the YT reviews of this unit really focus on what the lawn looks like after it's been cut. Does it leave behind the impeccable, "golf course" grade cut like I get from my Cub or John Deere, or does it leave behind a somewhat ragged cut with uncut grass blades, etc.?

So I'm a little confused about the steering here.. on a tight zero turn is one wheel turning backwards when the others going forwards like with a dual stick control... or are you just locking one wheel stationary at full lock and pivoting on that stationary wheel? if its the later wont that just be grinding the grass especially on soft ground on a true zero turn? if its the former at what point of the turn is one wheel switching into reverse ?

As a consumer, I don't need my mower to become a golf cart. Nothing is drives more efficiently than a zero-turn. Drove one at my local Lowes yesterday and while it was a barrel of fun, it seems like a marketing move to get grandma to buy a new mower with all her money. Just like their Line-IQ trimmers, I'm going to sidestep this steering wheel in favor of the adage, if it ain't broke....

Big problem vs other zero with steering wheel. this does not control the front wheels with the steering wheel. It controls the hydrostatic rear wheels, so don't confuse this with a competitor of the ZTR series mowers. This really disappoints me. The main advantage of all these electric mowers is the reduction in moving parts and the lower maintenance costs as anything that is meant to move has its own direct motor making the mechanics of the system greatly simplified.. However I entirely agree about the batteries...at some point it will become a no brainer to switch to electric as in principal its a better tool.. but batteries are still too expensive and haven't yet reached a run time capacity and life cycle to make up for that high individual cost. Its clearly going to get there at some point.. likely within the next 5 years or so I think but right now gas units still have the edge..
