I just finished watching a Columbo marathon. The only bad part is at the end when Columbo catches the guy. Don't get me wrong, I love when he catches these criminals who think they have outsmarted him, but it also means the show is over.😔 RIP Columbo You were the best!!!

This was one of my favourite episodes. The murderer thought Columbo was brainless and he could fool him easily, but Columbo turned the tables on him. Just like at the end of the "Sky High IQ" episode where the genius murderer gave Colombo a test and concluded he had above average intelligence. I recognised the son as soon as a saw him. He was "Charlie X" from an episode the original Star Trek where he had mental superpowers to do almost anything.

When I first saw this episode decades ago I never realised the robot in it was famous as Robby the robot. I thought it was just some robot prop for that episode. Then years later I saw the SCI-FI movie "Short Circuit 2", where the Robot Johnny five was been disparagingly referred to as "Robby" by a delivery guy in one scene. Apparently every robot was called "Robby" to him.

I agree with you-it'd be great to have a new, solid detective show, but there's no way they could bring back Columbo IMO. Peter Falk WAS Columbo. And he's gone, god rest his soul.

Thought id seen this thing before. Always thought it was a legitimate bot at the time in regards to scientific research in what they could do. Obviously it couldn't type and program automonimously... it was pretty much a radio controlled prop, but even so.

Not the robot from Lost in Space, it's Robbie the Robot from The Forbidden Planet. However, Robbie did have a cameo appearance in at least 2 episodes of Lost in Space.

The murderer kind of gave the game away to Columbo. He basically asked Columbo why he hadn't yet asked him where he was at the time of the murder, and when Columbo finally did ask him a question his first reply was "I didn't think you'd forget that". That made Columbo suspicious this guy was ready for any question regarding the murder he might throw at him, meaning he had the murder well planned and thought out in advance.

The Leutenant took time to help the criminal light up a cigar after nailing him

That scene had a purpose. If it had gone on a bit longer to where Dr Cahill asked how Columbo came to suspect him, he would have shown him the match he just used to light the cigar with burned from top to bottom, just like the match he found at the crime scene burned from top to bottom. That said to Columbo there was somebody there at the crime scene who used a match burned all the way through to light their cigar with, and it wasn't the chemist or his wife who didn't smoke cigars.

This episode was a bit too goofy. Columbo was more or less pretty grounded most of the time but this one had a robot ripped straight out of Forbidden Planet.

@Jack Turner Actually it was a cigar he used the match to light. Once Columbo saw the match burned clean through, he knew from his own experience of cigar smoking, his main suspect was going to be a cigar smoker. The room had been cleaned earlier so there should have only been three people in it, and only one of them was cigar smoker. That person was Dr. Cahill himself.
