So key that you share meditation is about the observation of your thoughts - not clearing them away completely!

as a beginner's guide, it is correct. I'm very fond of mindfulness and observation and all my Sadhanas are anchored in observation plus tools. but let's examine observation. there is a subject, the one who is observing, there is an object of observation and there is a process of observation going on between the subject and the object. if you can see all three at the same time, you arrived at the next level of meditation, witnessing. you are no longer involved in any of the three, you just see them clearly and you can let go anytime you wish. witnessing will continue, but if there is nothing to witness, it turns around or better put into itself (similar as in the case of a black hole) and witness witnessing. that is the highest point of meditation. if you remain in this state long enough you will reach the point of no return and you will get enlightened. only there will be no you anymore in the usual sense of this word.

Thank you Boris for this commentary on observing the mind with the mind. You seemed to already be very advanced in your practice. Like you said, the challenge is to maintain this wisdom in our everyday life which is what most of us find difficult. My channel is targeted towards those who are stepping into meditation. So I try to offer simple and practical tips. But when the time comes, I will also share about non dualistic wisdom and how it applies in our every day life. Thank you for stopping by and leaving your insightful comment, much appreciated!

Ive just meditate 3 or 4 times but there are this 2 times when i meditated i just had a feeling of connection with my mind and my body i cant describe the feeling of relaxation that i had, but i can compare it to 1 of my lsd trips and when i say it i mean that for a moment i was feeling so open minded about everything, but there are moments when see things in the time that i meditate and they throw me away from the meditation or even cut my breath for a second and make me open my eyes like i was in a lucid dream.

A good part of meditation is to bring the mind and the body together. Most of the time, our mind is not with our body. It wanders in the past, in the future or fantasize about things. But our mind is really at home when we bring it back to the body. I made a video about it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJiQk3V9jpV5edk. Our mind really longs to be at home, to stop running but it is its habit. Once our mind and body are together, we can learn to relax our mind and our body. If our mind is somewhere else, we cannot relax our body. After you continue practicing meditation and observing your thoughts, you will become less distracted by them and be able to recognize them and let them go. Good luck!

Based on scientific literature, I see 2 types of meditation - 1. open monitoring (mindfulness) and 2. focused attention (concentration). And every single meditation falls in one of these categories or a mix of two. Do you see the same? Thank you!
@PeacefulBreathing
@PeacefulBreathing 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrey! Great channel you have! I think you are quite right about those 2 broader categories. Keep in mind I am not a meditation master, just someone who practices. Like the 2 hemispheres of our brain, there are many neural networks within each one and different meditations exercise different neural pathways. So I wouldn't dismiss one type of meditation because there is another one that falls into the same bigger bucket. You have practices to cultivate awareness, others to cultivate love, others to hold our pain ... Furthermore, mindfulness and concentration are within one another. When we have mindfulness, we have concentration. And when there is concentration, there is mindfulness. My teacher often draws 3 circles within each other. The first and larger one, is the circle of mindfulness. Within it, is the circle of concentration. And within the circle of concentration is the circle of insight. Why did u ask this question in the first place?

In the end, most of not all of those meditation and spiritual practice lead to one thing which is a reconnection with oneself and discovering who we really are. We grow up looking outside, seeking things outside of us for satisfaction, for stimulus, whether it be a career, a relationship, material things, fame, power … so what I realized that I missed the most was reconnecting with myself, understanding my needs and be there for myself when suffering and also nourishing my own joy and happiness. I remember looking back at my past and just reconnecting with my younger self who suffered deeply for various reasons but not remembering also no one was really there for him and especially me. I just didn’t know I could. Anyways, continue meditation, reconnecting and listening to what is happening within you, be there for yourself, be your own best friend. And follow the channel for more soon! 😉

Sir I am having real trouble with these negative thoughts coming into my mind while meditating. I even get into to action when these thoughts hit me. Can you tell me what to do about these negative thoughts that push me away for about 3 to 5 minutes away from my practice.
@PeacefulBreathing
@PeacefulBreathing 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you for your question. First, know that most people deal with the same challenge, it is 100% normal to get lost in thoughts for several minutes and to dwell into worries or other "negative" thoughts. I'll explain in a future video why that is. So you're are not alone at all to face this situation. The first thing is to become aware of that you were lost in thought. It can happen after a few minutes. However long you get lost in thought doesn't matter much. With practice, you will be able to wake up from it sooner. But what matters is that you wake up from it. The more you practice "waking up" from your negative thoughts, the better you become at meditation. It's like a muscle you exercise so when you wake up from your thoughts and again, the time you spend in your thoughts doesn't matter much. The second thing is when you wake up/realize you were lost in thought, take a moment to refocus on your breath and then refocus on your body to calm your mind and your body. Stay in touch with your body. Calm it. Once your mind and body are calm, you can look at the thought you had if it is a recurrent thought that you think is worth investigating. Look into it, and ask yourself: is it true? How can I be sure it is true? How do you react-what happens-when you believe that thought? Who would you be without the thought? .... This is by the way questions taken from a method called "The Work" by Byron Katie which is free online. Hope this helps.

I find the best way to keep my thoughts quiet during meditation is using a mantra and visualization at the same time, but it really depends on the reason you meditate. Some people want to be able to silence their mind, and a mantra doesn’t really fit in with that.
@PeacefulBreathing
@PeacefulBreathing 3 жыл бұрын
I agree it is very helpful. I do too actually. I'll share soon about the sentences and visualization I use and I do find too that it helps with concentration and like you said, it depends on what we want to cultivate in us and our intention for our practice. Hi! great video, thank you so much. I have a question. When I meditate and thoughts come, I get super angry because I am distract. I even lose time arguing with my self about what should I do. Should I ignore the thought and get back to my breath or should I observe the thought and let it be? Thanks
@PeacefulBreathing
@PeacefulBreathing Жыл бұрын
Hi Rosalia, great question! First, you are aware of your experience which is the most important aspect of meditation… you see thee thought, you can hear yourself arguing and see the emotion of anger rising. Meditation is simply that, observing our experience without getting entangled with it. So first observe your thoughts as they arise, notice how you relate to them … and once you can clearly see your thoughts snd emotions come and go, you can fall back again on the breath. The Brest is an anchor that helps us steady our mind but when we notice another experience, we can attend to it without getting lost in it. And then come back to our breath. It doesn’t l’agave to be a struggle. Hope this makes sense. Let me know!

Can you explain further what you mean about 'bring a sense of curiosity to your experience"
@PeacefulBreathing
@PeacefulBreathing 2 жыл бұрын
Hello, thanks for your question. What I mean by bringing a sense of curiosity to your experience is to bring an attitude of wanting to observe, listen, notice instead of judging your eperience. For example, say that you meditate on your breath and that at some point your mind drifts away. Say you recognize that you started day dreaming and now, you tell yourself: "Oh again, I am so bad at meditation, I can't do this right ... " That's just an example but often, we have judgements or commentaries about our experience ... maybe you recalled a conversation with someone and made you angry and your mind ruminates on the person and what they said. So instead of ruminating on judgements, see if you can observe your experience, your reactions, the thoughts that flew in your mind, the emotions that arose, the sensations that came up ... see if you can notice them without wanting to change them, Notice them and let them be and they will go on their own. Like the clouds in the sky, they come and go. And we have the ability to notice them without engaging with them but it needs practice. Practice to recognize our experience and practice to not grasp onto them. Does this help? Let me know.

Hello Peaceful Breathing, I have a few questions about meditation that hopefully you could answer. So when meditating would it be more effective to have a certain objective in mind? For example: the goal could be self discovery, trying to focus on the moment, or just to simply observing ones thoughts. Because sometimes I go in with no goal in mind ( ps I’m new to meditation) . My last question is can meditation even help with self discovery?
@PeacefulBreathing
@PeacefulBreathing 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Jah, about your questions: yes, it is more beneficial to set an intention before meditation. This helps to align your effort of concentration on what you want to do or else, we can just sit and feel a little lost without an intention. About self discovery, meditation is (to me) the foundation of self discovery. When we meditate, we can calm our mind, slow down our thoughts. From that, we can be more easily in touch with what is happening within us: our fears, what makes us anxious, what makes us angry or we can listen to our self doubt or judgement. We can also nourish the good seed within us of love and compassion. And in future videos, I will share more about practicing mindfulness in daily life where we can become aware of our habit energies ... our habit energies are the ways we've been doing things on autopilot, often we have learned them from our environment, our parents, our society ... but they have become habits so we are not aware of them. Self discovery is also discovering our habit energies and transforming them if they do not serve our intentions.

Hello Bekkam, you can use some mantra such as some words that emit a sound like "Om" or short sentences like "I am loving awareness" to help you go deeper within and also bring the mind in a specific state depending on the sound or what the mantra means. You just keep repeating it. Instead of focusing on your breathing for example, your point of focus is the sound or sentence. Sometimes, I use "I have arrived, I am home". It means I have stopped running and arrived in the present moment, in my true home.

Hi Arsen, well, know that you;re not the only one. It's very common for negativity to come and go, sometimes often in our mind. But meditation can help. It just takes time because we've built a habit of forming consciously or unconsciously those negative thoughts. So our work is to become aware of them, and let them go by coming back to our breath. Each and everytime. Little by little, your brain will be trained to let go of those negative thoughts and not ruminate on them because the more you ruminate on them, the stronger they become. Another practice to counter negativity is to list the things you are grateful for. It's another brain exercise that will help you.

Many thoughts flying and lingering inside my mind. What shoul I do?
@PeacefulBreathing
@PeacefulBreathing 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Aira, mindfulness meditation is not about changing our experience but rather, it's about learning to recognize what is happening and learning how we can be at peace with it. In your case, if you have many thoughts flying around and sticking inside your mind, see if you can recognize that you are thinking and without judgement, label your experience ... "I know I am thinking" ... Become mindful, aware of your thoughts ... that's it! Once you do that, you may notice that the thoughts start to slow down, you start seeing that they come and go and are less and less "sticky" ... it takes practice. At first, thinking is happening and we're so used to being entangled with our thoughts that we're not even aware we are thinking, it's just been our way of being for so long ... So whatever your experience is, become aware of it, breathe with it. If nothing comes, rest on your breath. Hope this helps 🙏

It’s okay to fall asleep during meditation but it is not the goal nor can we understand about ourselves when we sleep. But it’s a good training to become aware and f our experience, whatever it is, in your case sleepiness, and become familiar with it. Then you can practice later with fear, anxiety, anger and so on

i get very distracting headaches when i meditate how do i deal with them?
@PeacefulBreathing
@PeacefulBreathing 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lil, do you know what causes the headaches? If you know you could address that. In terms of meditation, when we have strong physical sensations like headaches, the instructions are to bring you attention where you feel the pain. Then, maintain your attention there and see if you can relax this area of your body. You can say to yourself" "breathing in, I am aware of the headache, breathing out, I release the tensions" ...or relax my neck ... whatever suits you. Notice also how you react to the headache. Many times, we have a negative, judgemental inner dialogue with about it like "I don't like headaches, i don't want this headache ..." Notice if you have these thoughts and practice letting them go and come back to the sensations and try to relax again and again. If focusing on your headache is overwhelming, bring your attention to another part of your body like your belly or hands ... and rest your attention there. Let me know if this helps. Good luck! 🙏

When we meditate before going to sleep, our mind is calmer and clearer. So it happens that our dreams become more vivid and we can remember them more easily. That's all. If we go to bed without meditating prior, we can carry in our sleep the busyness of our day into our sleep and our dreams won't become as clear. Does it make sense?

Hello Dion, sometimes, we get so obsessed with the end goal that it prevents us from achieving it. I talk about it in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJiogaiqaMR2Z8U. Basically, in meditation, we practice letting go. Letting go of our expectations, our ideas. You just need to relax and enjoy your breathing, let go of your ideas of how meditation should be or if you're doing right or wrong. It sounds simple but "just relax" is not so easy sometimes. It'll come with practice. I made also this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJiQk3V9jpV5edk to share a little bit on how to relax during meditation. Let me just tell you that I went through the same phase as you: am i doing it right? With time, I learned to let those thoughts go and realized that the most important was to enjoy my practice and that enjoyment started from learning to relax and also, when I could not relax, to just simply accept that experience. Hope this helps. let me know.

Can i be aware of a good feeling in my mind instead of my breath ??
@PeacefulBreathing
@PeacefulBreathing 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. The main purpose of focusing on the breath is to calm the mind, to stabilize it. But staying on it is not the purpose of meditation. The purpose is to become aware of whatever arises in our mind. So if a good feeling arises, become aware of it. The good feeling becomes the object of your meditation. Does it make sense?

Mindfulness is about being there for what you do in contrast to daydreaming. Know that daydreaming is something everyone experiences, it’s a normal function of the brain to wander off. Most people daydream but don’t realize it. Anyways, you can think of mindfulness meditation as a brain exercise where you train your attention to come back again and again to your experience in the present moment like your breathing for example. The way it usually works is that you bring your focus on your breathing. After a few breaths, most likely your attention will drift off (daydreaming starts). After a while, you will realize that you got lost in thoughts. So you come back to you breathing. You do this again and again. It takes patience and perseverance to train your attention.
@PeacefulBreathing
@PeacefulBreathing 2 жыл бұрын
After days, months of practice, you will be able to stay longer and longer focused on your breathing while recognize more quickly that you got lost in thoughts. So effectively, you are training your prefrontal cortex (part of the brain) to stay focused.

It’s very very common. That’s the first thing we realize when we start meditation. We realize how busy the mind is and how little control we have. But with practice and patience, we can learn to calm the mind, to observe our thoughts and let them go.

Hello Victoria, you can try walking meditation or eating meditation. I have made videos about those practices. When we have strong emotions and get started with meditation, it can feel very overwhelming. So we can practice slowing down and learn to be with our experience with those 2 mindfulness practices which are very enjoyable too. If you decide to sit down and meditate, I would practice recognizing the thoughts that pass through you, recognize the fear by labelling it and each time, come back to your breathe, feeling the ground ... you can even meditate with your eyes open if you prefer. Learn to recognize and let go of your thoughts by using your breath as an anchor that help you feel stable and solid.

@PeacefulBreathing

We can have all types of experiences during meditation. But hypnosis is not something I am familiar with so I cannot really comment on it whether it is expected, good or bad ... Mindfulness meditation is about knowing what is happening within and out side of us and usually you need some type of anchor for your mind, could be the breath, the body, thoughts or emotions for example.

Hello Prakruti, first know that it’s normal and this is what everyone experiences. What you just realize is the habit of your mind and most peoples mind: it keeps producing thoughts about the past or the future. What we practice in meditation is first becoming aware of our thoughts. Most of the time we are thinking, our mind is wandering but we don’t realize it. So first, be aware of your thoughts. And then, let them go by returning to your breathing. Thoughts are like the clouds in the sky. They come and they go. Your job is to recognize them and not grasp onto them. See them, acknowledge them and let them go. Hope this helps, let me know

@PeacefulBreathing
@PeacefulBreathing 3 жыл бұрын
Hello, you can meditate in public. Use your breath to bring your mind home to your body. When mind and body are together, simply observe what you are experiencing within you. You can also observe what is happening outside of you and notice your own experience. Are any thoughts coming up as you look at someone or something. Can you become aware of those thoughts, can you let them go? Can you notice the sensations in your body, maybe as you walk? Feel the air … use your senses as a support for your awareness… just like you use the breath. Does this help?

Have been dealing with depression and aimlesness how can i get find myself
@PeacefulBreathing
@PeacefulBreathing Жыл бұрын
Hi, sorry for the delayed response. It's not uncommon to find oneself in this situation, I was in it as well a decade ago. What worked for me may not work for you. And meditation may not be what you need in this time either. The solution is probably made of several pieces. So here are what i would recommend although I am not a therapist which is what my list will start with: - Find professional help. It's okay to talk to a professional for mental well being. People hire personal trainers to get in share, why not hire someone else for your mental wellbeing if you can afford it. - Exercise. I cannot recommend exercising enough to get out of depression. Body and mind inter are, they feed from each other. Exercise, work out or find some activities that stimulate your body to help your body feel good. Then your mind will feel good afterwards. Many people have reported how exercises and achieving goals in their respective exercise/workout is helping them feel better about themselves, helping them set goals, giving them a sense of purpose. - Connect with other people. Depression usually isolate us. We ruminate on ourselves and our anxiety and self blame .... Connect with other through activities you enjoy. - Connect with nature - Eat well, sleep well. Rest and nutrition are also very important. If you eat badly, your body and mind will be affected by it. Cook something at home, appreciate the food, your effort. I personally enjoy a plant based diet, try to exercise 4 times a week, take daily walks if I can to nourish my body, read about meditation, listen to meditation teachers to nourish my spirit ... hang out with friends ... Good luck, hope this will help

I love meditation and teaching meditation. But it's not like it's a straight line .. there are times when I don't meditate, lack of desire ... motivation ... I wanted to teach meditation full time too and I tried but didn't succeed in making a living out of it and supporting my family so I went back to the profession I trained for. Now, I teach 2/3 times a week to my coworkers, I learn and practice on my own ... and as you see, i don't post on YT anymore but I will at some point again ... So it's not what I wanted ideally at first but I have learned to accept things as they are and enjoy the benefits of each aspect. It's good to find something you love doing, that you enjoy, that nourishes your spirit but it's ok not to make it a profession too. Sometimes, what we think will make us happy is precisely what is holding us back from being happy. Maybe for you, you're stuck on the idea that you'll be happy when you find your life's purpose ... and maybe you will find it and enjoy it for a while but I am sure that at some point, you will not like some aspects of it and it won't be as amazing or satisfying as you imagined it. So it is important to nourish your happiness in the simple things in like like waking up, eating, cooking, walking, breathing ... Finding your life's goal is great and I hope you find it but it is not necessary to be happy. To be happy is to be able to live life meaning fully, deeply in each moment. That's what mindfulness is about. My teacher once wrote how he was printing papers with a machine on a table and describing how happy he was and how nourishing it was to do the simple job of laying a sheet of paper, printing it and setting it aside, again and again ...
