I watched Penn & Teller talk for about 2 hours about their 30 years in magic. So I heard Teller speak plenty. These were non-refundable tickets and the show was so horrible with a misleading title that anyone who called for a refund was given one without question. Most people there thought they bought tickets to a P&T magic show not a podcast. The host (who we thought we just introducing P&T) said something like “Teller will be talking about...” and most of the audience laughed at that knowing Teller doesn’t speak in his magic show. Jokes was on us and they certainly fooled us.

Ass McBlast I don’t really understand the solution, but whenever a magician shuffles a deck before a trick, 99.9% of the time they’re fake shuffling to keep the deck in a certain order. If he really wanted it to be fair, he would’ve let Penn and/or Teller shuffle the deck
@jacrispiejackson694 жыл бұрын

@@jacrispiejackson69 My theory is that the cue is in the magicians he lists - there's nothing in the rhyme that requires Criss Angel or David Blaine specifically to be named. Sometimes your biggest victories will be found in your defeats. The sheer class, talent and skill showed in the entirety of the act was humbling, and I think I respect him even more for such a gracious "loss" - if that is even the right word - than if he had fooled P&T. He sure fooled 99% of the population. One of the best illusions I've ever seen. What an act.
@billyeveryteen73283 жыл бұрын
That's kind of true of the entire show. The actual prize you get for winning is actually much smaller than the "prize" you get just for participating. I'm sure magicians would love to have a trophy, and it must be an honor to open for them in Vegas, but the thing is, you're the opening act for a few hundred or maybe a thousand people in their theater, whereas by just being on the show, you get to perform your act and get your name out there to a potential audience of millions watching on TV in various countries or on the internet.

@charlottesdad33273 жыл бұрын
This is a completely mechanical trick. Very Richard Turner-esq. All the shuffles at the start, after the initial show of the face up mixed deck, put the deck back into a modified new deck order with at least the Spades in place of the Clubs. The last shuffle before the selection was with the backs up, and not faces up like the first two, to hide this from Penn who would have caught that immediately. Penn's selection was dead center of the deck and should have been the King of Clubs, but I believe Clubs and Spades were swapped entirely to help in getting the cards back into a reasonably random order at the end. If he had stayed with the first card and not swapped, it would have been another king, presumably the King of Diamonds since he landed on a kissing king, and we know where the Hearts are due to Tellers choice. Teller picked the second card from the end, the Two of Hearts in new deck order. The first card on the end was the Ace of Hearts, the card on the other side of the Two was the Three, and so on back through all the hearts. The hand work and cut during the rap was enough to shuffle the cards into what looked random during the final spread. He could have simply done the reveal in the rap at the table, but the pre-recording adds another layer. That's 104 recordings, the correct two recordings somehow signaled to a person off stage, or an accomplice who watched the selection, counted the card location, and got the two correct recordings. I imagine what Teller said was, "You shuffled the deck back into a type of new deck order before the selection."

I think we can rule out a marked deck because he would be unlikely to risk giving the deck to P&T to examine if it were - they'd be able to spot it. Also, if it were a marked deck, he himself would have been able to reveal the card rather than a recording - which with the added technology makes the reveal a bit more suspicious than a clean, human reveal. I agree with previous comments suggesting that the rap was just a delay tactic to enable the correct recording to be selected for play. The deck appears to be well used - this suggests that it is in some way a "special" deck - modified in some way. Otherwise, you'd expect him to use a fresh deck that would spread nicely and stack cleanly. The shuffle actually seemed fair, which begs the question, why didn't he just let them shuffle? The king of spades can be seen at the bottom of the deck when initially spread, then he shuffled and Penn chose it from mid-deck. This supports the theory that it was a fair shuffle. It's possible that it could be an RFID in each card, but I think that would also be detectable upon inspection due to an unusually thick card (even though RFIDs can be quite thin). If the RFID can be implemented in a super-thin, foil-like thickness, then it is possible the extra thickness may not be detectable. But again, why risk its detection by allowing P&T to inspect the deck? Still, I don't feel confident in the RFID idea - unless Teller did spot the thickness, and hence guessed correctly... In the end, it's a deceivingly good trick. Great job!

Another thought... the cards could be marked with IR ink that is invisible to the human eye, but detectable by IR cameras. When he pushes the card forward, a camera mounted above could snap a pic and the card can be identified by an assistant who then selects the audio to play.

The king of spade at the bottom, then being picked, looks like a force, not a fair shuffle

I'm throwing my wild guess here: All cards have RFID chips. (like the cards you use to enter a building or room) and there are two receivers both sides of the table. When he places the card on top of the receiver it sends the signal to backstage and plays the prerecorded part of the song. I'm pretty sure there is a receiver, because he places to card in the middle of the table if pen or teller want to switch card then moves it to left or right side of the table.

The cards seem too thin to have an RFID chip

My guess: His rap signals to the "magic DJ" what cards Penn and Teller selected. The "magic DJ" plays the correct audio sample. How did he know what the card was? Magicians have been doing that part for a long time and this is a, like he said, rendition of that trick. I love the rendition. Penn and Teller love the rendition, but unfortunately, they are very familiar with this type of trick and familiar enough with code language to bust it.

I'd say that's unlikely. If he'd known the cards directly, he'd have been more persuasive doing the rap live instead of pre-recorded.

He didn't know which card was selected until he heard it in the rap. But his left pointer finger knew. And the "magic DJ" knew.

Nope, there was no force. there was some sort of mechanism to understand which card they picked, not him not them, no one knew which card is it actually.

Guess #1: UV markings on backs, camera pointed at the location he moves cards after selection, and someone backstage watches it, and plays correct recording. Guess #2: Same, but with NFC tags, and reader built into the table.

no stooges allowed
@seiggy2 жыл бұрын
@@devinthomas4866 This wouldn't be considered a stooge. A stooge is a plant in the audience. Assistants back stage to assist in prediction selection stuff is perfectly within the shows rules. But you are right, stooges are not. I have no clue how he's done this trick, but I know how I would do it. Infrared ink on the cards to mark them would be invisible to the human eye, but visible to any camera. Use image recognition software to pick out the card when he pulls it out and places it in the designated marked area of the camera's FOV. Done right, you could even do it without an assistant. But I'm pretty sure that's not how he's doing that. I'd bet anything that's a perfectly ordinary deck of cards and there's another method here.

What i think about how it's done in "codes" : He probably would have been a good cashier or either a good singer, cause he showed us he manage all the skills requiered for those both professions.

He had markers on the cards.. Penn and Teller chose the cards randomly. He knew what the cards were by using the identifiers on the cards.. He then did a rap.. The rap had two purpose.. To transmit the information to his assistant off camera by using rap codes.. And to give his assistant enough time to put the right recordings together.. Prepared 104 recordings for this trick.. And 13+4 rap codes.. Man, that's a lot of work! Great job!!
@matthewjonker11195 жыл бұрын
Nope there was a camera in the table. He moves the 2 cards both times to the middle of the table. That's the only possible way. Marking the cards is too hard without someone noticing.
@Ikkimoto185 жыл бұрын
@@matthewjonker1119 Yeah.. Someone cnanot easily notice the marks.. Most magicians have their own techniques in marking their decks.. He identifies the marks on the back side of the cards.. Thats why he had to look while P&T were choosing their cards.. He did not turn around or look away.. Pretty sure he knows that P&T know about marked decks.. He just challenged them to figure out how he did the track played at the end of the trick.. As you see, he did not fool them..

So he had to have done sleight of hand inputting a specific card for each of them... but was it at the start when the cards were chosen (right before putting their hands over the cards) or right before the reveal?
