As a fan of watercolor illustrated children's books I think you might find this young woman interesting. Her name is Chantal Leonhardt, that's also her KZbin channel name, and she's only in her early 20's. She lives on Kangaroo Island in Australia and has her own studio/shop. She tried to find work as a children's book illustrator but no one was interested so she's writing and illustrating her own book. Each page she paints is massive. I think it may be A0 sized paper? I've never seen watercolor done so large but it's certainly allowed her to add in lots of detail. Well worth a look.

My family likes to do a yearly tradition of "secret santa" where we draw names out of a hat and the person we draw is the person we give a gift too. That way it eliminates pressure to buy for every person and everyone is also taken care of. People know me as one of the artists of the family and is always asking what I want, and I may suggest one of those water containers you suggested. I could honestly use a new one and didn't think about that until your video. Great ideas!

The effect of value in an illustration is nicely demonstrated by notan studies. Notan is recreating the image in blk n white. deciding what value is closer to black - and which is closer to white. Theyre neat to do w a blk brush pen.

Your idea of getting a one sided page coloring book to practice techniques! One I got just cheap copy paper but had nomes, lil holiday trees, candy canes etc.! Maimeri rates theirs as light fast. NB1 is traditionally fugitive. Some independent creators have done their own Maimeri tests and say that highly diluted washes will fade. The mass tone (dark applications) holds up. I have some issues with independent tests and not knowing how they were conducted as even paper and sizing choices can matter, but as far as I'm concerned MaimeriBlu's Indigo is lightfast under real world usage circumstances and taking the usual care for displayed originals. Best practice, ANY original art that will be displayed should not be hung in direct UV light (sun, fluorescent, etc.) and framed under UV protective glass or with a UV inhibiting sealer. I personally have no qualms in using it.

Steve, I like the choices of paint in your collection, with the exception of Indigo, which is fugitive. Why did you pick Indigo over the other dark blues they offer, like Prussian Blue, Faience Blue, or even Berlin Blue or Ultramarine Deep?

@mindofwatercolor It's labeled as lightfast, but it's genuine Indigo NB1 and it is not lightfast. Kim Crick did a lightfastness test on Maimeriblu Indigo, and it showed "extreme fading when diluted despite being rated by Maimeri as 3 of 3 star lightfastness."

I’m aware. It’s lightfast with real world usage and care. I chose it because it’s just a great earthy blue. I, like most galleries, always always always recommend original art that’s displayed never be hung in UV light and always with UV protective glass.
