The cards are STACKED HIGH. I legit joined the military to learn how to be healthy. I have run 3 half marathons, lifted and got down to 11% bf. Coming from a family of obese people, the HARDEST PART is changing your eating habits. Growing up my Mom worked really hard to be our sole provider and we primarily ate fast food/processed foods. My sisters are obese & struggle with it. I try to encourage them to walk, eat MORE veggies & really emphasize how much it helps fight depression. Adding more positive habits vs restriction (no bread, etc.) is useful. I STILL STRUGGLE. Processed food is sooooooooooooo easy to overeat. I am trying to learn consistency vs going as hard as possible. Lord Jesus it is a marathon. Even if you f* up, JUST START AGAIN. If I can try, fail, try again....so can you. Do NOT GIVE UP. Honestly, I've had to incorporate the mental aspects as motivation and increased lifts vs my appearance. I also see a therapist and meditate. Also, for any readers who are avid gym goers..FAT SHAMING OR SHAMING ANYONE AT THE GYM IS SILLY. ENCOURAGE PEOPLE. WE'RE IN THIS TOGETHER, ONE ADDITIONAL VEGGIE CONSUMED AT A TIME 🌈

obesity is a curse, often put upon you by your parents. The fact that I have lost over 50 lbs multiple times and still gained back the weight.... this is a fucking curse. people treat me worse, you feel worse, you;re more tired more frequently, you're more hungry because you're more tired, you eat emotionally and because you're treated worse you have a regular reason to numb the pain with food. You sleep worse and then you're more tired...eat more. it goes on and on and on. I've hated my life....for basically my whole life. The last 18 years of my life: 235, 315, 270, 300, 270, 220, 300, 260, 240, 270, 240, 260, and currently 230.

Spot on, gents. I see it in my family. Huge portions of bad food and copius amounts of soda. It has very little to do with genetics, it's how you're raised and the choices you make. Another thing that doesn't get talked about is that dirty eating and obesity have become a thing of pride in the US. It's cultural. I'm not a Democrat but I remember being very proud of Michelle Obama for pushing exercise and healthier school lunches for our kids. What was the reaction though? "She's hurting our children! She's anti-freedom, anti-american, etc." It was absurd that this woman who clearly saw the problem and tried to use her influence and position to do something about it was attacked for it. If a Republican ran on the same platform, you'd hear the same crap from people on the Left except with other buzzwords. We're in a bad place.

Staying obese may be a choice. But becoming obese is not a choice for two reasons: 1.) Humans cannot choose end results; we choose individual behaviors that may lead to an end result. For example you can't wake up one morning a choose to become a docor and the next same day you are medical doctor. Instead you choose the steps that result in becoming a doctor down the road. First choose your college major and your study habits then choose your med school and finally choose your specialization. and 2.) Obese people seldomly choose to over eat with the GOAL to become obese. Most obese people choose their behaviors for the alleviation of mental ditress (depression, loneliness, anger, anxiety etc.) The choice is not to become obese. So saying obesity is a choice is too simplistic. It's more accurate to say that obesity is a by product of choices made for other reasons, that ends up resulting in obesity.

Gotta say... as someone that has lost 60+ lb multiple times in my life, I respectfully disagree that it's a choice for everyone. I know a guy that runs 4-6 miles a day (5+ days a week, consistently), has tried every diet under the sun, and is still 60 lb overweight, consistently. He has done everything within his power to lose weight and he can't do it You could make the argument that he's doing weight loss wrong, but then that kind of conflicts with the point that weight loss is something incredibly simple (that everyone inherently knows how to do) and that it's just difficult to actually do it. I don't think I agree with either of those points

Weight loss is indeed simple just not easy for most people. It's a numbers game. Eat less than what your body requires to maintain your weight. You are not around anybody else 24 hours a day. People lie and secretly eat. Not one person is a super human. Everybody can starve to death. So everybody can lose weight.

I DO agree that extreme training methods don’t work. Forget running. Walk 5 miles a day or try to and monitor caloric intake. I used a weight loss app and walked 5 miles a day in preparation for hiking the Adirondacks and that helped me lose the weight over 3-4 months

Height and skin color are genetically determined. People who went into concentration camps, regardless of their starting weight, if they stayed in long enough, all came back slimmer if not downright emaciated, while their height and skin color remained the same. Why? Its because weight is NOT governed by genetics to any significant degree the way the apologists for the obese, or those who sell the "you are healthy at any size" nonsense would have you believe. If you still proclaim that obesity is something you can't control, because of your genes, you have been deluded by a modern culture that emphasizes feelings over facts.
@MomoSimone223 жыл бұрын
I thought that people tend to have a weight that their body is predisposed to being. And things like epigenetics can determine that too. I'm not talking about obesity though, I don't think anyone's body is predisposed to be obese.
@alphacause3 жыл бұрын
@@MomoSimone22 Correct. There maybe a weight that people are predisposed to be, but is usually within a few pounds of what is medically ideal for them. It's not 50 or 100 lbs over their ideal. 4:00 that message is usually told by and to women in most cases. Only obese women can become models and be a part of the fitness and health industry. While being told it's not their fault and it's ok to be obese. It's the body positivity idea but there's no obese men on fitness pages or magazines. Men are more likely to face the reality being told how obese they are, how it's not healthy and being told the truth. They are right, it sells because women on average spend more money than men so the idea is to please the major buyers by telling them it is ok when it is factually more dangerous to the individual.

The number 1 risk factor of Covid is age not obesity. This argument is often used as if its a choice between fighting covid with restrictions and vaccinations or fighting obesity. The reality however is that the same health authorities which call for people to be vaccinated and for measures to stop the spread of covid have already been campaigning for decades to reduce obesity. This is at least the case here in the UK. Obesity is an ongoing battle which will continue after covid is gone. The best thing that obese people can do to protect themselves against serious covid symtoms is to get vaccinated while they attempt to get fit and lose weight.

Well you do only have so much control. Any molecular geneticist will tell you that. You don’t control your metabolism or how your endocrine system produces hunger regulating hormones, or quartisol production, unless your cycling or on gear and that is a whole other conversation

You really didn’t have to spend 21 minutes to explain anything . All you had to say was travel outside of the United States to a country where the culture has big enough balls to still shame fat people rather than glorify it . The people are much thinner and healthier with longer life spans.

My prior obescity is as muhc of a choice just as me losing 80lbs fasting and lifting heavy ass weights was a choice.

Once people have enough information ( being obese )is a choice. Strong genetic signaling make people want to eat and store that fat so they can survive famines. If the shit hits the fan these obese people got calories to live on for awhile.

After nearly 8 years working in a drug/ rehab facility this is a lot more complex issue than you’re making it out to be. For some obesity as a result of food addiction is not THE problem but a symptom of the problem and therefore not as a simple an argument as stating that being obese is a choice. The argument you’re making is a bit too simplistic for an issue so nuanced.
